While not wanting to get in a fistfight over it, I was around in the IT world before the MAC came out. I have programmed COBOL using a mainframe, but I have also used software on the first PCs that did not require the user to program in basic or any other computer language. For example, Wordstar was a great word processing software used by admin types before the MAC came out. May not have had the ability to choose another font from the program, but a lot of our printers used a wheel (sort of like the Selectric typewriter) and you could swap them out if you wanted a different font. Yes he drove some innovations. I personnaly was turned off on Apple due to all the problems we had in our computer labs with the Apple IIe. I used to know by heart which chip to replace in the hard drive when it started overwriting the program disks. All in all, I think technology would have progressed even if Steve Jobs had decided to make his career as a flipper of hamburgers. I also believe that whatever talent I may have, there is someone out there who can do it as well or better than I can.

I have the metric signal stabilizer on my RSV, it still flashes quickly. I am OK with it, might try to track it down at a future point.

I have had squealing like that when there was nothing plugged into the rear connector and the intercom volume was turned up. Turning the volume on the IC to zero when I have no passenger clears it up. -

I grew up just south of Snyder. Left there in 1972 for Uncle Sam's traveling circus. While I lived there we never had an earthquake and that was when the oil fields here were booming. Now the big thing here is wind farms, although the oil patch is still operating, just not at the same intensity as it used to. So, and this is just my uneducated opinion, the earthquakes are not caused by oil and gas drilling, but by the torque forces from the wind pulling on the giant windmill towers. You can assist in alleviating this condition by buying windfarm credits from me. With the money you send I will buy lead weights that we will strategically place so as to counteract the pulling effect from the windmills.

Vincent, I went from a V* 1100 to the Venture. Some of my observations on the distances you can reasonably go are: Everybody's sitting time is different, it is best to do some day trips to get a feel for how comfortable you both are for a day in the saddle. A few years ago we did a weekend trip from NJ to OH and down to GA with a lot of time on backroads in PA (really I wasn't lost). It was very uncomfortable for both of us, doing over 700 miles a day. Then we got our seats modified by Rick Butler. Didn't do any really long rides 2 up on them, but did some long ones solo and it made a bunch of difference on how long I could ride comfortably.

Although I will never have GEICO for insurance again, I do get a kick out of their gecko commercials. Course that is probably because it sounds so much like one of my sons doing an English accent.

I got the metric signal stabilizer. I am not doing the dynamic clusters this time though. I went with a run-turn-brake controller and all red LEDs on the rear. Make sure you tell them that you have a radio on the bike. They use an RF coating for those applications.

The custom dynamics website has a page to help you determine which you have. It doesn't take long to check. For what it is worth, I just got my new turn signals recently for a 2007 RSV and they were BAZ-3 Front and 7507 Rear.

Sailor, while the VA does not pay compensation for hearing loss itself, if they found that your hearing loss was service connected, you can get treatment for that from the VA. Contact a veteran's service organization (Disabled American Veterans is one) and see what they can do to assist you. I don't go to the VA for everything I am covered for because of some of the stories that have come out about the treatment here in Georgia, but the folks that work on my ears are great.

On my 2005, I got the setup (the GEN200-Y kit) with Moon shinz in the front as running/turn signals, and the dynamic clusters in the rear that had red and amber LEDs, acting as Run/Turn/and Stop lights. The only problems I had with it was when the turn signals were applied, I got noise (synchronized with the turn signal) in my audio and when I applied the brake, the amber turn LEDs were overwhelmed by the red brake LEDs. Since I got my new bike I just ordered the kit again, this time with red LEDs in the back with a run/turn/stop module. They can also coat the signal stabilizer with an RF coating to cut down on the interference. I just got them so I can't give a report on how they compare with the others. I will say that the folks there will go out of there way to help you select the right gear. Excellent customer service.

Snaggletooth had a lot of great info for you. I wear digital Phonak behind the ear aids. I was also issued a remote that I could use to set volume on each aid, or select programs like someone mentioned doing with a button on the aid, and I was issued a device that acts as a bluetooth for my cell phone, or will accept line input from an MP3, etc so it feeds through my aids. I resisted getting hearing aids, but the Army doc didn't leave me much choice and my wife backed him up. It has made my quality of life WAY better. Yeah, sometimes background noises, wind, etc cause an issue, but nowhere near the issue saying "huh?" all the time or nodding when I had no idea what the heck was being said did. I chose a behind the ear (BTE) model because after watching a boss that had in the ear aids I figured that would be the best way to go. So here are some observations on that: 1. I broke one of the hearing aids taking off a helmet, the behind the ear piece snagged and the aid was pulled off my ear and hit the sidewalk. If you wear a tight fitting helmet, behind the ear models will be a problem for you. 2. I believe BTE models are more prone to wind noise. The microphones are on the back of the aid, and noises from behind you can overpower whatever else you are trying to listen to. 3. If you are hard of hearing, say huh a lot, and generally miss out on conversations, GET THE HEARING AID (if they can help you, that is).

I am one of those that will not take Canadian orders on ebay. I only have an option (unless I am missing something) of putting in one shipping price, so I put in a reasonable domestic shipping cost and restrict my sales area. If a Canadian were to contact me and offer to pay the actual shipping costs to Canada, I would have no problem.

At least one of them sold due to stimulus and Lotto. When that idiot caused my bike to be totaled, it stimulated me to lock for a replacement, and the amount that the insurance paid me was like hitting the lotto that allowed me to move forward a couple of years.

I have the 765 and like it, but it has been back to the shop twice now because the connections stopped working and it couldn't get power. I truly think that the vibration from the motorcycle killed the connections. But your experience may differ, and I do hope you have good luck with it.

Today I ended up on the side of the road in Virginia near exit 12. Front tire blew out, it was three in the afternoon and AMA roadside assistance expected me to know where to actually tow the bike to for a fix. I called my wife instead and she looked up shops online. Found a place called Stuart's Cycle Shop in Henderson NC. She called, and even though he is not open on Saturday, he came up to Virginia got the bike on a trailer and took me to his shop. He had tires in stock, fixed me up with an E3 and got me back on the road pretty quick. The charges were 60 for labor, 60 for pickup, and 139 for the tire. Considering that I would probably had to wait in a hotel until a regular shop opened again, I was more than pleased. He was a great guy to deal with, even had a good time swapping bike stories on the ride back to his shop.

When riding in the rain, it seems that on the 1st Gen, it was mostly the crotch of the jeans that got soaked. On a second gen without the wind blockers, the knee is the wettest. The Army has a saying, "If it ain't raining, then it ain't training." If we accept that and it's corollary as being true, then this four day bike ride has been an intense field training exercise. The Army has a neat system that allows you to track friendly vehicles in your area. The GPS on a motorcycle works the same way. That icon represents the friendly unit. Everybody else is out to get you. When it is raining and you stop at a hotel for the night, junk from the vending machine is almost as good as a fine meal you would have to ride to.

I am a little disappointed in the deal though Nate. You forgot to disclose the gender of your second gen. It must be a female, because it decided it wanted a new shoe on the front around exit 12 in Virginia. It was still not a really bad experience, the ride started getting a little squirrely but I was able to get slowed down a pulled off before it went totally flat. I started airing it back up to see where the leak was and shortly after I had it up to 30 lbs, the tire blew. But, hey, I am on the side of the road and have no road rash so all was good. Called AMA for roadside assistance. Sure they will tow me, but want to know where I want to go. I have no idea what is in the area, so they finally said there was a shop in New Boston, 57 miles away. Unfortunately they only cover 35 miles of towing, then you have to pay the providers going rate for the rest. I called my wife and got her to do some checking online. She came up with Stuarts Cycle Shop in Henderson NC. He came up to get me, trailered it back to his shop, put on an E3 for 275. Oh, and he isn't open on Saturday either (and did I mention it was already 3pm when I had the flat). I figure if they had towed me to New Boston I probably would have been there till Tuesday. Other than that she runs great. I got tired of being soaked and got off the road at exit 91 in NC. I will finish this adventure tomorrow, God willing.
