  1. I had a problem like that before, ended up being chafed wiring. Did you make any changes to the bike just before you started noticing this problem? If so, I would check any wiring in the areas where I was messing with the bike. Otherwise awiring diagram and Jeff's instructions are your best bet.
  2. I use First Gear the wife uses Frogg Toggs. Both are waterproof, we have had both for some time. My pants are starting to seep a little at the crotch seam, but rain suits do not last forever. My big preference is for the pants to have suspenders. That holds them up enough that I don't worry about the waist getting below the jacket level and letting water down the back side.
  3. Is your battery indicator light wired into the bike? If so, is it on all the time?
  4. Just a note on scan tools. There is an app called torque for smartphones that works with a bluetooth device ELM327 that plugs into the ECM port ( ) gives you the ability to clear codes also on OBDII.
  5. Wishing you all the best Puc
  6. Puc, you are an amazing dude. We traveled some of the same roads this summer, but I don't have anywhere near your gift of prose. I am enjoying reading your tale.
  7. If you got it, flaunt it.
  8. Heard about a vet running across country to raise money to send a LST back to France for D-Day celebration in 2019. He is currently east of Hobbs NM in west Texas. From what I read he has to catch rides back to his RV when he is done with his daily rides. If any of your are along his route might be a neat thing to get involved with. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coast...51518878297515
  9. I've been to that Wall Drug place. We were supposed to camp the night before but the wind was turning tents inside out as we were riding up so we wimped out and stayed in a motel.
  10. I used a slide hammer to pull the races on my swingarm. You can't get to them from the other side. Loc-tite makes a spray that reduces the temperature on a part that seemed to make it easier when sprayed on the races. Now when I replaced the rear wheel bearings on my Spyder I couldn't get them out for anything. Ended up taking the thing to a machine shop. One of the bearings snapped in half while trying to get it out, but the machinist was able to work a little magic with a welder to get the remaining piece out.

    Fracking

I grew up on the edge of the Permian Basin in west Texas. They took a big hit back around the 80s and a lot of companies had to downsize or went belly up, wells were closed, etc. The county seat went from 15000 populaton to about 10000 today. With more efficient extraction methods they have come back somewhat. When the fields started opening back up seems like everybody and their dog with an acre of unused land put in RV facilities to handle the workers. Even had a guy put in a "man-camp" that reminded me of some of the housing used on FOBs in Iraq. Most of the RV parks are mostly vacant and the "man-camp" has been moving units out to other areas. Now I have heard that the shale fields in south Texas are creating a lot of work. The big issue I hear about now though is the low gas prices. As a consumer I appreciate not having to pay $3 a gallon, especially if I am gassing up the RV. But when oil goes below around $70 a barrel, it starts to put the squeeze on the smaller companies out in the oil patch. The typical Saudi tactic is to drive down the prices to the point where the competition cannot afford to continue in business, then they cut production and the prices go up again. I hope our guys can hang in there long enough to outlast them.
  12. Just east of Fredericksburg on 290 is a wildflower shop where they grow their own wildflowers for seeds. If you happen to drive by when they are blooming it is an incredible site. The Alamo Springs Cafe near Fredericksburg is a neat place as well.
  13. We are coming through WI, I'll keep you in mind, thanks. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  14. Thanks for the hospitality, it was great meeting you.
  15. Yeah that was a neat experience, some really pretty country out there. We will probably be north of Sacramento on Thursday, I have a son around Yuba City. My phone number is 770 dash 845 dash 7427 Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  16. Puc, we went to the Santa Monica Pier ago we are about ready to head north. If we are in Dalles when the rally is on we will drop in, but we haven't made any time sensitive plans. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  17. Appreciate the reply, I had failed too mention that I am on my Spyder which requires removing Tupperware to do the oil change, look forward to talking too you later. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  18. We are riding towards Santa Monica, will be hitting the AZ border this morning. I need to do an oil change and the place I thought I could use fell through. If you are along that route and would not mind assisting me with this, please call 770 dash 845 dash 7427.
  19. Cowpuc, I think I am just a bit in front of you. We stayed in Gallup overnight, the wind has been a real PITA here in NM. We'll keep an eye out for you. This is our rig, holler if you see us.
  20. Great pics. Made me homesick and hungry at the same time.

  22. Nice seeing what you have in mind on your trips. If you go west from Abilene on I-20, wave towards the north when you go through Colorado City (about 80 miles), I grew up out there. As far as WIFI goes there are a lot of places to catch up with your reading and posting these days. McDonalds is pretty consistent with wifi and a lot of other fast food joints are as well. But when you are in Texas you need to eat at What-a-burger, they are made the way God intended them to be so why mess with the rest.
  23. Thanks to all for the tips and good wishes. And cowpuc if you can't run rings around a Spyder (998CC) with a 1St gen something is way wrong. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
  24. I haven't been on much lately, but just to catch folks up, I have graduated from MMI and plan to go back out to Texas and either work at a dealership or open up a shop. First off though, Elizabeth and I are going to ride through the lower 48. If you are curious about where we are going or what we are seeing, we have maps posted and will be posting photos and comments on https://www.facebook.com/fargasonservices?ref=hl. We will be riding a brown Spyder RT with a trailer rather than the Venture as that is one we can both drive. Wave if you see us.
