  1. Speaking of riding in Hawaii. I am supposed to be going over to Schofield Barracks for a week or two fairly soon. Is there any place near there that you know of to rent a bike? (I know that there is more than one island, just hoping that you would know about that area).
  2. There's a season? What is that?
  3. When my wife and I came back on R&R we had a lot of people voice appreciation. I have to admit that if I had seen someone do the "sign" before I watched the video I would not have had the slightest idea what they were trying to convey. I don't think that I will ever forget, even though I don't know who he/she is, the person that gave one of the officers in the airport when we were on the way back a huge roll of twenties with instructions to hunt down all the GIs and make sure that they had their supper paid for.
  4. She ain't fat, just undertall.
  5. I am really upset that some of you are trying to get Freebird to run for President. After all that leaves out our Canadian brethren. I was thinking more along the lines of Emporer of the North American continent, we can pick up the rest later.
  6. I'm interested. That way I could carry it on the business trips when I can't take the bigger one. Don't like being without my Venture.
  7. Yeah, it is ten days, but the time is from 10 AM to 2 PM each of the days. Anytime you are connected with the military, frequent moves are common. I still have my Texas driver's license and vote there, but haven't hung my hat there for other than visits since 1991. Enjoy your new location.
  8. We had a great time. As everybody else has said, it was great seeing and meeting. Still wonder where Lowell was, but I am sure he will catch us another time.
  9. There are a lot of ways to connect to wifi through what are essentially cell phone lines. Those are basically a dial up situation and will not be very fast. The only times I have used those is when I was out on the road a lot.
  10. I thought it was interesting, and for the limited amount of information on your wants and likes it does a fairly good job. Unfortunately it doesn't take into account some issues that are, in my opinion, very important, so in my case it matched me with someone I will not vote for.
  11. Good write up. Now I just gotta get motivated to put mine on.
  12. Mine came from Aerostitch, they can be set up as Off-HI or Off-LO-HI. I was going to use the three position setup, but am not quite sure where I want to mount the switch itself. I am of the opinion that mounting it on the fairing would put it too far away. I have looked at some of the switch panels that are supposed to attach to the brake cylinder tops, but the company will not respond to my questions.
  13. Brad, let us know if you need anything. Hope you both heal up quickly.
  14. I got a set of heated grips as well. Where did you guys mount the switch? Did you use the switch that came with the grips or did you get something different, and if so, what? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  15. Yep, GPS boxes can be wrong. Then again, I have had a lot of maps that hadn't kept up with the construction as well. I have also had people tell me in all seriousness that you can't miss the turn because there is a BIG ole sign there. You can miss said turn if there is a big ole truck parked right in front of the sign, but don't ask me how I know. Even with the hassles of sometimes having outdated data, the GPS will continually try to get you back on path. That is really important for people like me that continue to insist we know better. By the way, I am not so much an international traveller as an international get-loster.
  16. Spear, We may disagree on politics, but I appreciated seeing your countrymen while I was in Iraq. I also enjoyed seeing the Kiwis, Brits, Estonians, Mongolians, Japanese, etc. Hope to get to see your lovely country someday. My brother, who visited while on R&R from Viet Nam was very enthusiastic about it.
  17. Mine has a MP3 player, so I listen to it and the music stops whenever it needs to prompt (nag) me, then starts up the music again. If I am going on a long trip or into strange places, it is definately with me.
  18. For the bike I got a set of grip heaters. But my best gift was a call from my son in Kuwait. They should be heading north in a couple of days.
  19. Just before Thanksgiving I was priviledged to watch a fine group of young people graduate from Basic training at Fort Benning. And last year I was extremely priviledged to work around some of the finest young men and women our country has produced, unassuming young people who love life but tended to put others first. Yep we have our problems as a society, and while I vote I don't expect government to ever solve social problems, but I am not dismayed by what I see on TV or read in the papers. I can imagine that there were a lot of folks who looked at the generation growing up during the "Roaring Twenties" and thought that they would never amount to anything, but they were part of what we now call the "Greatest Generation." So, my two cents only and a Merry Christmas to all.
  20. The US hospital is in Landstuhl.
  21. Thanks for what you are doing Ozmonster. I am glad your government is doing this.
  22. I can imagine that if I were a dealer and a new guy came in asking to use a trailer (that I would be liable for if anything happened) I might be a little leery of going along. Now once a relationship has been developed, I would probably be more willing to risk a little more.

    Good video

In video and advertisements you will see folks riding close together because empty space don't sell. It is just like the car commercials where they show lines of cars rolling with about five feet between. Hollywood always changes reality to whatever they think will look good.
  24. The clerk is misinformed. The Lowrance IWay 500C is waterproof, and I am sure that there are others out there as well. If you do a search of the forum on GPS, you will find that it gets discussed here quite frequently. I would recommend that you do some research on line to compare the major brands, Lowrance, Garmin, Magellan, Tom Tom, etc. Clerks are going to try and steer you to what they need to sell and may not have a clue as to what yo should have on a motorcycle.
  25. I spent time sleeping on a flight line, and in wierd places on my duffel bags, but it wasn't enough to make me want to surround myself with four walls while I ride through some great country. Besides for what a Toy hauler costs the wife and I can rent a bed for more than a couple of nights. To each their own, but riding the motorcycle reduces my stress and makes me a happier camper. Riding a toy hauler would be the opposite for me.
