These are my second go with a BTE model. The first one I had was a slimmer model, no problems at all with the helmet. These I have now are just a bit thicker and sometimes I get my ear a little crosswise with a pad or something and turn off my left side. But then it normally turns back on at some point when I turn my head. Not really a problem. I have more trouble in some very noisy sports bars, but they issued me a remote that I can use to adjust the settings for my own comfort. No real problems at all to use them, and the ability to hear things I couldn't hear anymore is well worth the slight hassle.

I've got two of the phonak behind the ear models. Waiting for the hands free necklace now. These are pretty good, I didn't have to change out any of the phones and hear great.

I have an extra fuse box under my seat. Ran my heated grips there, and also power for my Lowrance IWay 500 and my Garmin 765. Two GPS hookups because that way it the wife and I are going to different directions I can still hook up my old reliable.

I have the Tourmaster Flex. I like it because it covers just about all the seasons. And if you really have a problem with the heat even with a mesh jacket there is at least one company offering a vest that you soak in water and it cools by evaporation. I don't have one of those, but I used a Frogtog towel thinggie the last couple of summers. Soak it in water, wrap it around the neck, refill it with water at the next gas stop. Kept me real cool.

That is why I use a credit card for most things. Your liability is different on debit and credit cards. I have had a card taken once, and someone got my number another time, but so far the companies have covered all losses.

Congratulations to you and your son. I appreciate the service of all the family members of you Ventureriders. Oh, Rod, it was good of you to offer to ride with him, but I don't think that trainees of any service get to ride until they get out of their technical school. He is gonna be extremely busy for awhile now.

I do appreciate all the insights and suggestions. To some I am sure it sounds wierd. I have been in most of the states at one time or another, but the intent is mainly to pass the borders of the 48 in one trip. If there is something interesting along the route we will stop and see it. There are some things that are on the list of gotta see. The responses have been helpful. I originally was just gonna ride to the end of 66 in CA, then head back to Nevada to go North. Then someone reminded me of the Coastal Highway. That is going on the list. The pics of Crater Lake were awesome, so that will probably hit the list as well. The mention of Plymouth Plantation reminded me that the USS Constitution is in Boston, so gonna have to figure that one in as well. For now though, part of the fun for me is just the planning. We are looking at a couple of years before we trek. So thanks again for the tips. And a special thanks to Goose. Reading his posts about the perimeter ride convinced me to get off the dime and start the process.

Yeah, I know we can't see everything. I could spend months just seeing old military sites. So we aren't planning on hitting any state in detail. There are some things that are given, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Rushmore, etc. But I know there are some particular sites that would be nice to go if they fall close to the route we end up with. As far as routes to ride, the priorities right now are Route 66, Natchez Trace, and Blue Ridge.

For awhile now I have wanted to travel through the 48 contiguous states on my bike. It the kind of thing that needs to be planned out long range in order to make the most out of it. There are some books out that will help with that, one called "1000 places to see in the US and Canada before you die". I have ordered that but thought that this site could offer up some good suggestions as well. So, if you had to pick ONE place in your state that would be the priority, what would it be?

In this case more laws would not have made a difference. The kid took off on a motorcycle that he did not have permission to take. Motorcycle theft is against the law. He had been drinking and was probably DUI, again against the law. May or may not have been even licensed to drive a motorcycle, if not, again against the law. I regret that the young man lost his life through poor choices of his own making. All too often, though, in my opinion, here in the states we tend to want to write more laws to try and correct behaviour that is already regulated by other laws. For example, there is some serious construction on I85 south of Atlanta. The speed limit in the work area was 60mph. Rush hour traffic regularly exceeded that speed. Recently there have been several crashes in the area. So the corrective action being taken is to lower the speed limit that was already being ignored.

While they made it to the hospital just before she passed, the cop kept the driver outside in an ugly confrontation. The man did not get to see his mother in law before she passed on. It has been on the news that the officer did apologize after seeing his own actions on the playback and has now quite the force.

While I don't agree with the proposed law, you may want to rethink the part about what is legal in your home state... Some examples of laws that differ between neighboring states and will get you in trouble are helmet and gun laws. Not saying this to start a debate, just to point out that a rider from a state that does not require a helmet will get a ticket in Georgia if they come here without one.

I have found the SAE plug in more than a few places. I think I bought the last one I picked up at Advance Auto.

OK, for my simple mind this brings up a question. I have admired the "cooler" racks that hook onto the trailer hitch. Is there a limit as to weight on those? We are laying out a "dream" trip to hit every state in the contiguous US some day and I know I am gonna need some extra room.

I was trying to do a last minute turn in May of 2006. I was looking for the entrance ramp on the right, but it was to the left. Just barely caught a hole that took me down. I was and am insured with Progressive. That was a week before I was to report for deployment. Progressive handled everything, responded to all my needs and when I got back from Iraq my baby was all pretty and new-like. Sorry to hear about those who have had problems, but I can tell you that Geico, State Farm, and USAA have all gotten on my bad side. Kinda makes me think it is probably the workers we deal with, rather than the companies that make the difference in how we view things.

Hey, it was Gene that mentioned the bad word. I was thinking 2nd Gen, but that VStar you got shore is purty. We oughta get together sometime in April or early May. Elizabeth and I plan on a camping trip out to NM the first week of June, so sometime soon we are gonna do a "warm-up" ride. To Chattanooga, Birmingham, Montgomery, then home.

I live WAY too close to Lewis to ever suggest something like that. So, if you heard that, you didn't hear it from me.

You're just inching your way over to the dark side slowly. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated:rasberry:

The issue with allowing retirees to keep all their retired pay and the VA disability payment is called concurrent receipt. Sometime around 2003 or 2004 that was passed into law for folks with a certain level of service connected disability, to be phased in over a few year time span. Those with combat related disabilities didn't have the phase in requirements. The way I read this is that maybe they will do away with the phase in, or maybe it is going to finally go down to those with less than 50%. As far as going after the private insurance, the medical system for active duty has been doing that awhile now, and when I was signing up for VA medical a few months ago the VA was already asking for your private insurance information.

The service organizations are an excellent resource. Disabled American Vets (DAV) wasn't mentioned, but they are great too. Most of the VA centers where they do the disability determinations have service reps located in the same building. A lot of states also have veteran's service reps as well. There are definately different "levels" based upon your eligibility. Just about anyone with military service and honorable discharge is in one of the categories. Those of us that are OIF or OEF vets are authorized care without income verification and copays for five years after returning from theater.

I bought a small key fob model and was going to mount it in a similar fashion, but could not trace the buttons on the circuit board. I hate multi-layer tech sometimes. What did you use for yours?
