1. I buy ballistic glasses like I had in Iraq from Safetyglassesusa, get them for about $6 a pair. The legs do wear out after awhile, but for that price I can buy a bunch.
2. I don't know about the LEOs, but I teared up a bit when I saw that.
3. The problem is not the cell phone, it is the nut (I would prefer a stronger word) behind the wheel. If they didn't have a cell phone they would be painting their nails, reading the paper, etc. I use a hands free device when I am in a vehicle, and it is no more distracting than talking to someone in the passenger seat. As some have mentioned, if you are in an emergency situation a phone might be necessary. I will give you another reason that you should not want to jam everyone's cell phone. A lot of folks have family deployed, or are waiting for calls for medical procedures that cannot afford to miss that cell phone call no matter where they are at. Yes, I survived being stationed overseas before you could call around the world at a moments notice, but I sure enjoyed it a lot more on my last trip when I could pick up a phone and call my family practically any time I wanted to. And I guarantee you that when my oldest deploys shortly I will be answering my phone whenever it rings, no matter where I am at.
4. If you use credit cards, check with your companies and see if they offer calling you as part of their fraud protection service. I got a text message this evening from the card company I use the most. Some lowlife was in New York trying to buy $400 worth of tickets on the Long Island RR with my credit card. Now I will have to go through the hassle of changing some of my stuff around, but at least they caught it before it got worse. I did not call back about the text message until I had verified the number as actually being from the company. I am glad they offer the service and wish I could catch the so and so that stole my number. Hope none of you ever need this info.
5. If you find yourself in need of a real cheap (as in free) place to lay your head near Atlanta, you are always welcome here.
6. I can't see trading in either of my Ventures on a Wing, but that is just me. Obviously some on here have done so and are enjoying the ride. If it came to the point where something happened to my Ventures and I could not replace them, then the Wing would be pretty high on my list of possibles.
7. I saw a replacement stock antenna last week on Ebay. Someone else finally outbid me at around $60. I was looking for a headset on Sierra electronics (http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?id=145) and saw a stock replacement antenna for only $40. Looks good, is a bit taller than the old one.
8. We ordered some of the ones mini recommended. They worked great this morning. I have worn some leather ones with thinsulate, but they are not as warm as these.
9. I would like one also. Do you know the price yet?
10. Happy Veterans Day to all of our vets, thank you for your service.
11. My wife has had hers for about a year now. She likes it a lot, it has helped her when her allergies are kicking up and she can't wear the 3/4 helmet. I just ordered one today. Be aware though that these helmets run a bit small (or so it seems to me). I normally wear a XL (on other HJC helmets), but on this model I am going to have to get a XXL.
12. My son was car-jacked at gun point. Turns out the pair of thugs had done the same thing twice before at the same location, around the same time of the month. Not only did the police work in slow motion (of course he lives in the poorer part of town) but he was charged towing from where it was recovered to the police station and then again when it was towed from the police station to the impound lot. They were also able to charge him four days of towing fees because they held off on notifying him that it had been recovered. $300 for that priviledge. And yes I am in favor of the death penalty for theft.
13. Felled would be the proper term if you used the normal tools, say an axe or a chainsaw to do the deed. However, if you are using an automatic weapon (and we have all seen pics of Mini with the Thompson) then I believe "took down" would be the more accurate term.
14. There are a lot of resources online to help you with genealogy. Ancestry.com is a good resource because of all the records you can find there. You can post your tree online as you build it, which allows other people to find it and make comments and sometimes give you good info. For a really decent standalone software, Legacy is a good choice. You can get a free version which is still pretty powerful. Some other online resources: familysearch which has already been mentioned is excellent. USGenWeb has folks who run websites with information for every county in the US. I have found a lot of cemetery information in their archives (just have to know where your family was at). As far as what purpose does it serve, it has given me a better understanding of some of the issues in our history. It has also brought me into contact with some cousins I would never have met if I hadn't been doing genealogy.
15. They are suing the mother and father as well.
16. Don, I still had a coreldraw file from doing the last design. I have reversed the colors and saved it in CorelDraw X3 format. It is in the attached zip file.
17. Joined just before the first Vogel, met Wildhair the weekend we rode through the Bakersfield dirt in Perry GA. It's been a good ride, but sure miss the ones that aren't here anymore.
18. I had USAA for a time before I got back into bikes. Had some real bad hassles with them and won't go back for any of their insurance, although I really like their banking. If you are eligible for USAA, then you are also eligible for Armed Forces Insurance out of Ft Leavenworth. I have all my household insurance with them and they underwrite with Progressive for vehicles. I was sued some time back and my property insurance covered me and have not penalized me a bit. Back when I used to check rates they were very competitive.
19. While staying at the Sugarloaf Key KOA, I found evidence that George and Bobbie had also stayed there.
20. I really liked the showcase of the product. I didn't have the volume up, but I wish I had had the taco mag pouches when I was running around over there.
21. Even when you get a virus or malware, you may find that if you do some searching that you can find a way to remove the problem without relying on a computer store. I ended up with the Security Tool malware, but after looking at a couple of sites I found the instructions that helped me clean the box right up. No lost files, or reformatting needed.
22. Yes it is, the blue was the fastest color for the 1st Gen, and Silver for the 2nd Gen. I have tried to race them but am having problems operating both throttles at once. Squidley took real good care of the bike and I am privelidged to have to opportunity to offer it space in my garage. And thanks all for the compliments on my great-niece. We are all proud of her. And nope, we don't have to worry much about her. Her dad, sisters, and cousins are all pretty good shots as well, and are fortunate enough to live far enough out in the country that hiding bodies is not an issue
23. It has been an interesting week for me. Last Friday I flew out to Houston and picked up my new to me 89 VR (Sorry I couldn't hang around for your birthday Don). Today I watched one of my great-nieces join the family business.
24. I wish I could make it. Grew up 11 miles south of Snyder and I guarantee they never had anything like that while I was in the area. Y'all have fun.
25. Mine is mounted on the left lower windscreen.
