  1. Lower wind deflector on mine. And Boomer, thanks for releasing pygmies on the Army bases. I got lost on a land nav course and ran across one. Tasty with ketchup.
  2. A radio station in Johnstown PA used to play that every Friday morning when I was stationed there.
  3. It isn't so much the organizations, as it is the people working for those organizations that make the difference. The DAV rep at Ft Knox was excellent in working for me, whereas the one here is Atlanta is useless. Actually the VA caseworker I had here in Atlanta went out of his way to get my upgrade done when the DAV rep was sitting on his keister. Congress critters can be helpful at times, depends on how active he/she wants to be. When DFAS was giving me problems restarting my retirement pay after a recall, my congressman stepped in after three months of non-payment. His assistance resulted in my pay starting after only six months of non-payment. I would try a service rep, but don't be afraid to follow that up by calling the VA directly about the case at some point to ensure that the service rep is actually doing the job.
  4. I was on a MiTT in Iraq 2006 - 2007. Where did your team train, and what time frame? I ended up being the last guy at Hood and had to restart at Riley. I started at Riley towards the end of August.
  5. The food issue has been covered pretty well. My father, brothers, sons (except one), wife and myself were all Army. I enlisted in 1972, retired in 2003, then got recalled in 2006 for a visit to Iraq. Comparing the equipment we had to the equipment that we were issued in the 70s is like comparing a space shuttle to a horse and buggy. Even so there are folks who like to have a little extra. We were issued some really nice optics for our M4s, but I knew a guy that spent a bundle getting something just a bit more high tech. My oldest is in Afghanistan and one of his buds went so far as to buy a match grade upper receiver. All of those were the personal choice of the soldier.
  6. Years ago I heard that there had been a scientific study on the topic of Aggie jokes. According to that research there is no way you could know a thousand Aggie jokes. You see according to the study there is only ONE actual Aggie joke - the rest are all true stories.
  7. I had picked up a book on the rules for all 50 states. When they talked about transporting across states that aren't carry friendly the advice was to have reservations (with print out) for the next state over. The problem, according to them, is that once you stop for an overnight you are no longer just passing through. That is what got the guy who had to overnight in NJ due to flight delays.
  8. Thanks to both of you for the kind thoughts. Fortunately he has been trained well and is surrounded by highly competent and focused troops.
  9. If you see a sort of short 1LT over there with a Fargason nametape and a 1st ID patch, tell Josh he owes you an ice cream and I will pay him back when he comes home. Yeah I know it is a big country, but weirder things have happened. Stay safe.
  10. Hope all goes well. Be good when she can move without pain again.
  11. Sorry I missed it. Hope you had a good one, and as an apology, have an extra ice cream at the mess hall on me.
  12. RVing.
  13. sierra electronics has a stock version of the 1st Gen antenna, fairly inexpensive.
  14. I read the letter and was kinda OK with it, until I read that we should outlaw the sport bikes. I agree that there are some riders out there that give all bikers a bad name, but I don't want the government deciding what kind of bike or muffler I should have.
  15. Thanks all, we got in some riding before the storm hit, but even though the ice is about gone, there is too much sand/other crap on the road to ride just yet.
  16. Diane, Haven't been on in a while, so sorry I missed your birthday. Hope it was a good one and hope that the year is a great one for the both of you.
  17. I have been reading ebooks for a bit over two years. A lot of the really good sites have been mentioned, but for sci-fi folks, Baen publishing is great. Their books are about the cheapest and they have a lot of them for free. They do a monthly webscription where they bundle 4 to 6 books for $15. It is not like the old record club where you had to buy something every month either. The website is: http://www.webscription.net/
  18. I came here to find out their secret plans for world dominion too. I hope they use something better than Timmies though the next time.
  19. Das war sehr cool Squeeze. Frohe Weihnachten, mein Freund
  20. Last week I was doing a job at Ft Knox, Kentucky. I was shocked to see visible proof of a Canadian plot to undermine the US Army. Not sure which traitor has allowed them to sell Tim Horton's on a US base instead of Dunkin Donuts like we all know God intended.
  21. I buy ballistic glasses like I had in Iraq from Safetyglassesusa, get them for about $6 a pair. The legs do wear out after awhile, but for that price I can buy a bunch.
  22. I don't know about the LEOs, but I teared up a bit when I saw that.
  23. The problem is not the cell phone, it is the nut (I would prefer a stronger word) behind the wheel. If they didn't have a cell phone they would be painting their nails, reading the paper, etc. I use a hands free device when I am in a vehicle, and it is no more distracting than talking to someone in the passenger seat. As some have mentioned, if you are in an emergency situation a phone might be necessary. I will give you another reason that you should not want to jam everyone's cell phone. A lot of folks have family deployed, or are waiting for calls for medical procedures that cannot afford to miss that cell phone call no matter where they are at. Yes, I survived being stationed overseas before you could call around the world at a moments notice, but I sure enjoyed it a lot more on my last trip when I could pick up a phone and call my family practically any time I wanted to. And I guarantee you that when my oldest deploys shortly I will be answering my phone whenever it rings, no matter where I am at.
  24. If you use credit cards, check with your companies and see if they offer calling you as part of their fraud protection service. I got a text message this evening from the card company I use the most. Some lowlife was in New York trying to buy $400 worth of tickets on the Long Island RR with my credit card. Now I will have to go through the hassle of changing some of my stuff around, but at least they caught it before it got worse. I did not call back about the text message until I had verified the number as actually being from the company. I am glad they offer the service and wish I could catch the so and so that stole my number. Hope none of you ever need this info.
  25. If you find yourself in need of a real cheap (as in free) place to lay your head near Atlanta, you are always welcome here.
