  1. I've use this Nelson Rigg and it's just the right size and doesn't interfere with the handlebars http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/nelson_rigg/cl1010_micro_tank_tail_bag.html
  2. Picked up a new toy today - BMW 650 GS. Will use for some commuting and exploring the back country of Utah and Colorado
  3. If you stop in Cody and you like Mexican food and margaritas eat at La Comida. Best margaritas I've ever had. They have limit of two per person which we thought was pretty funny until we started on the second one, then we were glad the hotel was within walking distance!
  4. I did a 900 mile day last summer in 105 degrees with LDComfort long pants and long sleeve shirt under mesh pants and jacket and felt fine, highly recommend.
  5. Not much choice on rear tire, I was on a 5000 mile trip last summer and wore out the rear tire at the Dragon. Only tire I could find nearby was a Pirelli. Will put a Venom on back when it's time, only has 2500 miles on it now and is in good shape.
  6. I'll try increasing the pressure in the front tire, rear shock at 40, front at 5. Thanks for the input
  7. Just put a new Venom X on the front and now front end feels like I'm riding on tar snakes. It isn't any better than the old tire that was really worn, tracks to easily on any grooves in the road. Checked cold tire pressure at 38. Any ideas why it feels this way, leaving on trip in three days and not feeling real comfortable especially at slow speeds.
  8. I've had Suzuki 750, 1000 and 1500 Intruder, and you're right they are bullet proof. I loved my 1500 Intruder until I bought a Venture, it was like going from a jeep to a suburban in comfort levels. I rode 900 miles straight one day didn't feel worn out at all, also 800 miles straight through to LA and could have kept going. This bike will feel like a load initially compared to your 1400 but you get use to it quickly. If its touring or two up riding you're going to fall in love with the Venture. Digger
  9. This is the one I use on trips, works great and does not interfere with full turns. Holds wallet, Ipod, sunglasses and snacks easily and has a map pocket on top in case you don't have a GPS: http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/nelson_rigg/cl1010_micro_tank_tail_bag.html
  10. 1969 I was 16 and bought a Triumph 250 and a BSA 441 Victor Special

    Trailer

I bought a used Escapade and love it. It has air shocks and tons of room, barely know it's back there. Here is a link to see what the company says about them, a little pricey new but used can be found: http://www.californiasidecar.com/trailers_elite.html
  12. We stayed there this summer. Nothing fancy but clean and the folks that run are real nice, even had a laundry room for everyone to use. It was nice to have a garage for every room, I left the trailer in there while we rode.
  13. Here is a link to the tips for long distance trips: http://www.ironbutt.com/tech/aowprintout.cfm One of the most important tips is to stay hydrated, even if it's not hot the wind across your skin dehydrates you which will increase your mental and physical fatigue factor
  14. I have the 100 light brake light cluster, just put it in last week and can't believe the difference. This brake light is bright!! Highly recommend to everyone.
  15. It's too bad you missed out on the ride to Utah, there are a ton of great rides up here whether you're doing the national parks in southern Utah or the canyons and mountains of northern Utah.
  16. Not sure about Hellbender, it doesn't sound familiar, but my nephew new all the roads and I just followed him. I know we went into Tennessee and northern Georgia. Fontana Dam does sound familiar, we did stop at "fugitive dam" and a waterfall
  17. Margaret, next time I get out there I'll do that, thanks. Mike, didn't get any really good shots from commercial folks but here's a couple
  18. Next time I make it back there I'll get in touch with you. My nephew lives in Raleigh and my sister near Pinehurst so I'm sure I'll do it again. My nephew rides a new ultra so it was fun to ride with him and he goes over to the Dragon all the time. We stayed at the Two Wheel Inn, they have little garages between each motel room for your trailer or bike and about a 4 foot overhang so you can park your bike under the overhang as well. Really nice set up for bikers. Not a 5 star hotel but clean and only 20 minutes from Deals Gap, would recommend to anyone traveling the area. They even had a laundry room. My nephew may be riding out here to go to Sturgis next year, keep in touch perhaps the two of you can hook up to ride out together. The pic is of the front of the Two Wheel Inn and the other my nephew with the bikes.
  19. Just got back from a cross-country trip of just under 5000 miles. Salt Lake City to Kansas City, to Columbus,OH, then down to Raleigh area. Met up with my nephew and went over and did about 1000 miles in and around the Dragon including Tennessee, northern Georgia and North Carolina. The Dragon was awesome, ran it 4 times. Ended up having to replace my back tire while there after only 10,000 miles, unfortunately the only tire they had was a Pirelli. Longest day was 906 miles with 105 degree temps across Wyoming & Kansas. Can't say enough about how beautiful the Appalachian Mountains were, totally different than the Rockies were I live.
  20. Thanks everyone for your response, that's kind of what I thought, but I'm not much of a an expert when it comes to the internal parts.
  21. I made an appointment for 12,000 mile check because of upcoming cross country trip and possible oil leak around rear hub. The service guy said they recommend a valve adjustment. I thought it was too early but he insisted it was recommended. I thought it wasn't needed until 27,000 miles. Is this dealer trying to rip me off?
  22. I bought this one recently from MotorcycleGear.com and it's the perfect size for MP3, glasses, wallet, snacks, etc. Not too big to hit handlebars on tight turns: http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/nelson_rigg/cl1010_micro_tank_tail_bag.html
  23. The tank bag is the Nelson Rigg CL 1010, here is the link: http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/luggage/tank_bags/nelson_rigg/cl1010_micro_tank_tail_bag.html It also has a nice little rain cover and I ordered the magnetic attachment rather than the strap, very nice way to go
  24. Getting ready for my 3700 mile trip at the end of June so I wanted to test a few new add ons. Put a new XL F4 Custom windshield with vent, and it works great. Left Salt Lake City headed to Las Vegas(425 miles) and it was 36 degrees Monday with a touch of snow on the ground. Ran into two big rain storms on the way and barely got wet. Was able to put RainX on the shield which really helped and the vent provided a nice flow of air when I got to hotter weather in Vegas. Towed my new to me Escapade trailer, and I didn't really know it was back there even in hard crosswinds and heavy rain. I'm not usually fan of tank bags but I picked a small one up from Motorcyclegear.com that's a perfect fit for the RSV. Holds my MP3 player, sunglasses, wallet and a few food bars, even has a map pocket, but I use a GPS. Head back to Salt Lake City on Saturday, weather looks better this time. I think I'm ready now. I will be doing an Iron Butt ride on the first leg, 923 miles. This will be my first. Longest one day total before was 793 miles.
  25. I've never used the CB in the 2 years I've owned the RSV and haven't used one in a vehicle since the 70s. In about a month I'm taking 3700 mile trip and thought I might want to use it for road and weather conditions. So do MC riders have a channel they monitor or do you have to put up with all the trucker chatter interrupting my music?
