This was basically my experience with a CT. CT's really work well in low speed corners and you can easily scrape the floor boards with confidence, but that sure footed-ness fades as the speed increases. My CT also had a terrible dislike for roto-mill surfaces, (during repaving). I'll stick with MC tires on the RSV.

12.8 to 13.2VDC at idle is too low. I suspect the regulator or stator. The stator went out in my 06 RSV. The voltage at idle was about 13.2VDC.

The typical failure mode of the shock is to lose the dampening effect via oil loss, not air, so you basically have an air bag. My bike rode like a pogo stick after all the oil leaked out.

Back in the early 80's I had sidecar rig for hauling the kids. Our rig used a pair of tube style turn-buckles to anchor the high side and set the lean angle. These things never flexed or bent. Your new arrangement is certainly stronger than before, but the flat bar can still flex and may eventually bend.

Congratulations on the new job! Now get to work!

I was out of town working nights. My son called me from high school. He insisted that I turn on the TV and was babbling something about an attack and a plane hitting the World Trade Center. I turned on the TV just in time to see the second plane hit the second tower. A friend of mine was a NYC policeman at the time. He was downtown testifying in court when the attack came. He was nearly killed several times as the various buildings came down. He's retired now, but his health has been negatively affected due to all the airborne debris. I think he spent a month at Ground Zero looking for remains. I can still see the that plane and I can still see those towers falling, and I still get angry. I pray a lot more these days; probably still not as much as I should, but certainly more than back then. And I also pray that the Good Lord will allow me the privilege of standing between evil and the innocent one more time.

Our present bike is an 06 RSV, but Harley is definitely in the running for the next bike. Had a 76 FLH back in the late 70's that I sold in 81 after getting a Yamaha XS-1100. I think Harley quality has improved to the point that they deserve a good hard look for our the next bike. Of course I could just be getting nostalgic in my old age.

Sorry your ride was cut short. Hopefully you'll get everything repaired in time to get in a few more rides before the snow flies.

Take the Ghost Buster's rig with the unlicensed nuclear reactors. I hear you need the firepower down there!

Yep, you sure did. You might have to buy two batteries just to make up for the extra life you got out of this one! Six years on bike battery is very good.

Yep, this happened to me in June in the mud. RSV's and mud aren't a good combination. Thanks to the adrennalin rush I got her back up and finished the ride home, but that could be why I'm presently sitting in the easy chair recovering from hernia surgery. Don't recall anything letting go at the time, but there was increasing discomfort until the surgeon did his work on Thursday. Now I won't be lifting anything for a while...

Harley Death "Wobble"
OB-1 replied to ronjolly's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Back in the late 70's when I started riding I had a 76 Harley FLH. That bike had a load of Harley AMF problems, but a "death wobble wasn't one of them. Being a youngster at the time I rode very agressively and never experienced the "death wobble". I put 100,000 miles on that bike before selling it. I think that if such a "death wobble" existed as some sort of design flaw I would have experienced it at least once. Just my opinion. YMMV:backinmyday: Prayers sent for a full and speedy recovery for the gentlman that went down. -
You might want to consider air bags instead of springs. That way you don't get the harsher ride when lightly loaded.

I've been running E-3's since the original Commanders became unavailable. The Commanders gave me the best mileage so far out of a rear tire, E-3's just a little less. I'll probably try a new Commander when I need another rear tire. So, IMHO, either tire should work well for you.

Better put some bug screens on it too. Ya wouldn't want to pull in any hornets.

Nice dozer!

Ya know there just something wrong about drivin' a dozer while wearing short pants in WV...:rotf: Hornets or briars? Man you really needed a third choice. Glad you can joke about it now.
