I’m a former MSF Certified instructor. I believe in using the proper protective gear when riding. I also believe that it is every adult’s choice as to what protective gear they wear, if any. I don’t believe in helmet and seat belt laws for adults.

Looks like someone needs to color a few more states on their map! Wyoming weather for next week looks preety good, but a bit on the cool side. Have agreat ride, and YES, GOD is GOOD...all the time!

Years ago, , I saw a guy & gal riding a KZ1000 with homemade saddle bags. The left bag had a second, smaller, lid and the top of the bag and fuel tank had pieces of cheap carpet tacked to them. They had small dog that rode in the bag and occasionally on the bag or on the tank. Not exactly something I'd do, but it worked for them.

Skim through this thread and you'll answer your questions and probably come up with more: http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=213550#post213550 Disregard the personal sniping when reading the referenced thread...some people occasionally get a bit carried away.

Insurance companies crunch numbers and look at what they perceive as risk. Their perception, and what is real, aren't always the same. I, for one, would be interested in any first hand accounts of car tires installed on motorcycles causing or being a contributing factor in any accident. I've been in engineering long enough to know that occasionally a device used for other than its intended and designed purpose can sometimes work in the unusual application and that it can occasionally work very well. To me, using car tires on a motorcycle is an intriguing, but unproven, possibility. A car tire typically has a weight rating that far exceeds the entire loaded weight of a motorcycle. I believe this may be the factor that allows a car tire to survive the significant sidewall flexing that occurs during cornering. My riding is almost all two up and often fully loaded. I also live approximately 5 miles from the nearest pavement, so we do a fair bit of gravel and dirt road riding, (try to keep a Midnight Venture clean when you have to ride on dirt & gravel). The tread design of most car tires provides better traction on the gravel and dirt than any motorcycle tire available for our bikes. The tread depth of most car tires is significantly greater than a motorcycle tire. This should improve wet weather handling and reduce to potential for rear tire hydroplaning. So, please keep the information coming and let’s put the personal digs aside.

Cold & rainy up here, but our 8+ year drought is over! May was the wettest month, ever, on record, and June so far is wet enough to cause flooding in the Black Hills. But, EVERYTHING is green! I'm ready for some drier weather, but you guys down south can keep your 100 degree temperatures all to yourselves. 75 degrees is warm enough for me.

We live on or very near part of your 2nd Leg Route, so give us a call if you need anything, including riding company, when passing this way. Our phone number is in the VR Assistance list. Bring warm clothes & rain gear as our drought is over and we're setting precipitation records.

Hmmm... Traffic Lights? We ain't got no stinking traffic lights! The nearest traffic light is over 50 miles away. And I believe that I'd have to ride nearly 300+ miles to find one that my bike might have trouble tripping.

Other than the poor mileage, how is the bike running? How many tanks of fuel have produced low fuel mileage? My worst mileage has been 28-30mpg, but that's running fully loaded 80+mph into strong headwinds.

Anyone interested in an M&E in Northeast Wyoming/Western South Dakota area? We live between Sundance & Moorcroft, WY, about 3 miles north of I-90 and 18 miles south of Devil's Tower.

How involved are MC inspections in your State?
OB-1 replied to Tartan Terror's topic in Watering Hole
No personal vehicle inspections of any kind here in Wyoming. Just one of the many reasons I choose to live in a free state. No personal offense intended. It sounds like some unelected bureaucrat has something against motorcycles. -
Winter be Damned, got out on the scoot yesterday!

Last week I finally got my first ride since the snow started piling up last November. Finally, after nearly five months of snow and ice and then a few days of mud, the road was clear enough to make the 5 mile trek to the pavement! What a grand and glorious ride. Since then it's been intermittant snow and constant mud. I can hardly wait until things dry out enough to get to the pavement again! -
My experience is much like yours. In two years of ownership I've got maybe two total minutes of transmit time on my CB. Chanel 19 isn't worth listening to, and CB's aren't very good for emergencies anymore. They could be nice in group ride, but that's about it as far as I can see.

I had a semi-close call Monday evening near Devil’s Tower when a semi-truck pulled out in front of me. The semi-truck was turning left from SR-24 onto US-14 and I was turning left from US-14 to SR-24. I had the right-of-way. He was at a stop sign. He let the car in front of me turn and then pulled squarely into my path. I suspected he might do just that so it really wasn’t that close a call, but I laid on the horn and gave him a one-finger salute. He then stopped in the middle of the road and I went behind him and on my way. We really are invisible.

Squidley; THANKS for all the frustration and hard work! Hopefully the end result will be worth the aggravation and work. -
I’ a former MSF Certified Instructor and have attended and taught their courses. I think they are invaluable to new and experienced riders. I’m not in favor of mandatory training and would rather see public and private incentives. Some insurance companies offer discounts to course graduates. GEICO offers a discount of 10% to course graduates and 20% to active instructors.

Hey Guys; Any updates on an improved alternator? -
One of the best bike roads around this part of the country is US-212 from Red Lodge, MT over Beartooth Pass to Cooke City, MT. On a scale of 1 to 10, Beartooth Pass is a 9! Cooke City is only 3 miles from the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Another great ride is from Cooke City, MT to Cody, WY via US-212 and WY-296 to WY-120. WY-296 is known as the Chief Joseph Highway. This is another gorgeous drive. On a scale of 1 to 10, Chief Joseph Highway is a 7-8!
