I have no experience on a trike; however, a friend of ours has triked Goldwing. This lady is in her late 60's and she can hang right with us in the Black Hills. I have been very suprized at how well she handles the curves. I had a side-car rig 20+ years ago and it took a lot of upper body strength, don't know about a trike except our friend sure doesn't seem to have any problems.

The *OFFICIAL* Gas Mileage Poll
OB-1 replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Living out west, Wyoming, our speed limits and the "tolerance" given by the average traffic officer are a bit higher than you folks back east or the left coast. On the interstate I set my cruise at max which is a GPS confirmed 80mph, (indicated 85-87mph). I, (we), usually ride two up and carrying a fair load of cargo. Our typical interstate mileage is 30-34mpg using the odometer. Had one tank last June that was down to 22mpg, but we were pushing an awsome head wind on I-80 and running a GPS confirmed 90mph. Had to use 4th gear much of the time with that wind and the speed we were running. Two years ago on an organized group ride we actually got 49mpg and so bored I couldn't see straight. Two lane mileage is typically 35-42mpg depending on the specific conditions. I would love to get better fuel mileage, but I'm not going to quit twisting my right wrist to get it. -
The gravel roads out to the pavement are almost melted clear, just another couple of sunny days:sun1:and I'll be able to get the bike out to the pavement for a ride... But look what's coming: ... Winter storm possible Friday through Sunday... A strong winter storm will affect much of the northern plains Friday through Sunday. This system will bring freezing fog and freezing rain to the region on Friday... and the potential for 6 or more inches of snow Saturday through Sunday. In addition to the snow... strong northwest winds may cause considerable blowing snow which could reduce visibilities. Uncertainty exists regarding the exact track of this storm and snowfall amounts... but it is likely that some parts of northeastern Wyoming and western South Dakota will be impacted. Monitor NOAA Weather Radio... internet... or your local media

I've used Green Slime in my MC tires for quite a while now. It does appear to balance the tires and I've had no problems with this stuff. I can't say that it has prevented any flats because I've been lucky in past 32,000 miles of riding and not had any tire punctures that I know of. The Green Slime does stay liquid and makes things a bit messy when changing tires, but it wipes up with little effort, it just seems to go everywhere.

I start mine every couple of weeks. It sure is nice to hear that engine! We've been getting into the 40's to 50 here this past week and the snow is melting! supposed to hit the 50's on Sunday. Hopefully the gravel will melt clear by Sunday so I can take a ride!

I tried a CT last summer and went back to MC tire after several hundred miles. A CT offers some real advantages, especially in braking, but they don't work on all bikes. My 06 Venture developed what might be best described as an oscillation. A riding partner said the rear of my bike looked like it was doing a dance down the interstate. The rear end would also kick out unexpectedly during hard cornering. The ride was much smoother with my wife on the back and she even thought the ride was much smoother, but the oscillation/woble and cornering issues were more than I care to deal with. To me, the CT took away some of the stability and cornering ability of my bike and I'm not giving up the handling qualities of my bike to save few bucks on tires. I posted a reasonably detailed write-up on my experience in this forum last summer.

The Dairy Queen in Spearfish, SD, is open all year. Of course ya can't ride your bike to it this time of the year, but it's open. Come on out and I'll buy the first ice cream cone...for me of course.

Hey Bubber! It's plenty cold over here with 2+ feet of snow too! Today is the first day of a five day warm up. We may actually get above freezing today but it's only +5 now. With my "winter" luck the 6 or so miles of gravel road will "almost" be motorcycle passable and then the next snow storm will hit. From the looks of things now, it may be April or May before the gravel de-ices enough to get to the pavement. Got any deals on tractor mounted snow blowers? We're running out of room to push the snow...

Does 25 inches of snow and -40 windchill sound fun to you?!?!?!
OB-1 replied to Chaharly's topic in Watering Hole
We only have a bit over 2 feet of the white stuff here. Wed. night it was -34F and that's not wind chill. Last night was a bit warmer at -25F. Tonight's a heat wave at only -8F now and will likely bottom out about -10 to -12F. The next few days are supposed to be warm though, up into the low +40's:sun:! The road out will probably be just about melted clear when the next snow storm hits. -
We're having a heat wave! It got all the way up to 32F here today. That's the warmest it's been in several weeks and we still have 2 feet of snow. We're supposed to pay for it later in the week when the high temperature will be near zero:shock3:. The folks over in Sturgis have so much snow that they've run out of places to push it. Better be a hot summer or the Sturgis Rally will be on snowmobiles:doh:.

Thanks Boomer! Super Video!

So, the heroic save of the ham wasn't enough for ya , huh? I understand the desire to take a good deal when one is presented, but are you sure you're up to it? I'm sure you can probably do whatever needs to be done while laying on the couch sipping your favorite beverage, but just think of what will happen when you sneeze and your drink hit's the laptop and the laptop hits the floor! Merry Christmas and may GOD Bless you and yours! I think I'll go push some snow around since the blizzard is finally over... Hopefully Venturerider.org will still be after all the snow is pushed around.

Some bikes will tolerate a car tire and some won't. I tried a CT on my bike and went back to an MC tire. Some guys swear by CT's, but it didn't work on my bike.

Congratulations and have a Very Merry Christmas!!! Thank You GOD!

We test rode a fully deck-out Wing in 2006 and our 2006 Midnight Venture. The dealer let us ride out on the Wing and followed on the Venture. Halfway up Spearfish canyon we stopped and traded bikes and it’s been OUR Midnight Venture ever since. The Wing is a great bike, but we like the Venture more and the substantial price difference didn’t hurt the bank account near as much!

In all my state-side travels I’ve had need to call 911 in a number of different places with the results ranging from absolutely outstanding to why did I waste my time. The consistently worst 911service in my experience has been in New Orleans where I’ve simply had to hang up and deal with the situation myself. One of my best 911 experiences happened when an idiot sideswiped my truck on I-10 just east of Lafayette, LA, and I chased him all the way to Baton Rouge before the State Police could finally get an officer in the area to stop him. Now that was a great 911 operator and my quickest trip from Lafayette to Baton Rouge!

2006 Midnight with approximately 35,500 miles. I put 75,000 miles on an 81 XS-Eleven Venture before selling it back in 88.

I'd go back to chain drive before I went to a belt. Chains make more noise, require oiling and adjustment, but they don't break without warning. All that said, I'll stay with a drive shaft.

Yep, did the same to mine last year. Not much of a switch is it?

We have the Clearview XXL on our bike and my wife says it blocks a lot more wind then the stock shield. We use Lemon Pledge and/or a water soaked towel to clean our windshield.

The weather here went from summer to winter in the span of a day and half. I haven’t even had the chance to wash the last ride’s bugs off the bike. Kinda hard to wash the bike when it’s below freezing. We’ll probably get down to near zero F tonight and tomorrow night. Had to make an urgent run for Howes diesel treatment so we can keep the diesels running; no one is selling treated diesel or number 1 diesel here yet!

I know what you have/are experiencing. I tried car tire last year and decided that it wasn't for me.
