My bike is usually sputtering when the gas gauge hits reserve.

The 24 watt is 1500 lumens. The blog has quite a few light pattern photos from folks that have them on their bikes. They do seem to provide quite a bit of usable light in the photos.

Maybe Eck washed the VR assistance list with his last cell phone?

Very interesting. I suspect that the dimmer, (PWM), produces a lot of RFI. It doesn't look like any of these guys have radios on their bikes so they would never be bothered. Very tempting. Please keep us informed if you buy and mount any of these LED lights.

We haven't seen bare ground since last October and it doesn't look like we'll see bare ground for at least another month. I hope I get to spend as much time on the bike this summer as I've spent on the snow plow this winter...
-
Yes, but you only know that because there's photos, (or a reasonable facsimile thereof), of the little smiley guys; unlike your photo-less post of your Yet To Be Seen trailer...

Arkansas Hwy 7 from Russellville to Harrison is terrific ride. As previously stated, almost any road around Branson is a good ride. Traffic in Branson sucks; too many vehicles on too little of roads, but outside of town is great.

Yes it has! We haven't seen bare ground here since Late October. I haven't been able to ride my bike since early October. I only hope I can spend as much time on my bike this summer as I've spent on the tractor this winter plowing snow.

Chrome Trunk Frame.....
OB-1 replied to BoomerCPO's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Troublemaker! Now I have to go out to the cold, cold, garage and examine my 06. Do you have to take the trunk off the mounting rack to see the problem? Thanks for the info! -
Big Rigs are Commercial Motor Vehicles, (CMV), and CMV's, because they are commercial, follow a different set of rules. A CMV can be stopped anytime for a safety inspection. You agree to this when you obtain the required permits to operate a CMV. Privately Owned Vehicles, (POV), require a legally articulateable reason to initiate a traffic stop. IMHO, the mere fact that someone is riding a motorcycle is not a legally articulateable reason to initiate a traffic stop. There is presently a federal court case to determine if motorcycle checkpoints are legal or not. Regardless of the upcoming ruling, the case will likely be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court. For the most part, motorcycle checkpoints are funded through federal grants from the NHTSA, part of the Transportation Department. Some nicely worded letters to our respective Congress Critters should help to stem the flow of federal grants for this foolishness.

The 2nd Gen cruise control will not go beyond 80mph as stated in the owner's manual. A true ground speed of 80mph will produce an indicated speed of 85-87 on the 2nd Gen. This causes me to speculate that the speedometer error is intentional. The speed limit on the interstates in most western states is 75mph, so setting the cruise control at max is pretty safe as far as speeding tickets go. The 2nd Gen will easily cruise at 100mph, but the fuel mileage will drop into the low to mid 20's-mpg. My worst mileage was on a short sprint from Rawlins to Rock Springs, WY with a strong head wind, 2up, and heavily loaded. Had to use 4th gear to push the wind and run 95mph, (GPS). We got 21mpg. We usually average 30-32mpg on the interstate at 80mph, (GPS).

We got another 8+ inches of winter here since last night and now, being Wyoming, the wind is blowing... I'm tired of winter. We had 5 days of melting, the first melt since last October. The snow was about half gone. Just a few more days and the road would have been clear of snow out to the pavement, but that's not to be. Snow forecast for the entire week. I'm tired of pushing snow and desperately need some time on the bike. Oh well, spring will get here; in it's own sweet time. PS. Before this round of snow I tried to get to the back gate with the tractor. It takes more than 2-feet of snow to high center the tractor. I never made it to the gate. Glad I had the back-hoe on the tractor or it would still be stuck in the snow..

What's a trailer like this weigh?

When I tried the Darkside a couple of years ago I found very little real information. The few folks that ran CT's all swore that CT's were terrific with no downside while the naysayers for the most part claimed instant destruction of the motorcycle and rider. Given that, I tried it for myself. I made a couple of fairly detailed posts about my experience. Can a person ride with a CT on their motorcycle? Certainly, but for me a CT requires giving up too much of the handling characteristics I want from a motorcycle.

The hotel room rates start going up about two weeks before the rally and shoot up toward the moon for Rally week. Traffic is typically bad three days before the rally to about three days after the rally although it that depends on the weather, location, and year. Last summer my wife and I hit Spearfish Canyon on the Sunday after the rally and had the canyon to ourselves; quite unusual for any summer Sunday. We live about 70 miles west of Sturgis and aren't into the rally scene. IMHO, rally time is not a time to see the beautiful Black Hills. The Black Hills of SD and WY has some of the best motorcycling roads anywhere, but the rally brings in way too many people to enjoy the scenery and the roads. Give us a shout whenever you come through and maybe we can ride with you a ways...

Poll on people that tried but didn't like darkside
OB-1 replied to CaptainJoe's topic in The Darksiders
I tried a CT and didn't like handling. I posted a write-up on my experience and I think it's still around here somewhere. There are some positives to running a CT, but way too many negatives for me to run one when I have a choice. I still have the CT in the garage, but I have no plans for ever using it again. The positives for me were; excellent rear wheel braking traction; more control on gravel; excellent traction during straight line acceleration. The negatives were; consistent wobble or rear wheel weave at highway speeds; unpredictable kick-out on tight high speed curves; almost uncontrollable wobble on rough roto-mill road surface. CT's on a Venture? Tried it and didn't like it. Your mileage may vary. -
I used "Hippo-Hands" back in the 80's on my XS-1100 and they were great on really cold days and when riding in cold rain. Not sure how they'd work on the Venture with the comm/radio control hidden from view.

What's the difference between the Air Force and the Boy Scouts? The Boy Scouts have adult leaders and Air Force has better toys. Boy Scouts of America: 68-75 U.S. Air Force: 75-84 USAF Contractor: 85-86 Civilian: 87 to present

Are you sure about that? It's -8F here and we've got about 2+ feet of snow on the ground, but at least the wind and snow have stopped for now. Wind-Chill has been running -30 to -35F for the past two days! The way this winter is going it will likely be May before I can:Venture: again.

Happy New Year! The storm is now over for us in Wyoming, but it's still ragin' for you easterners... For the first time in about 48-hours the wind-chill and standard temperature are the same. -8F. We only got 6-8 inches of snow, but lots of big drifts thanks to the wind. Wind-chill for the past two days has been nearly a constant -30 to -35F. I'll likely spend a good bit of time pushing snow with the tractor once the sun comes up.
