I tried a similar device back in 81 with a Harley. It bent my trailer hitch like it was a wet noodle. Ended up renting a trailer. I think something like this would be fine for a small or mid-sized chain drive bike, but I would be reluctant to use one on anything bigger than say a 500cc bike.

Reduced fuel economy...that varies
OB-1 replied to Venturer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Our mpg has varied from a low of approximately 22-23mpg up to approximately 50mpg. The only two consistent factors are wind and how much and how far I twist my right wrist. Two up running 80mph we average 30-32 unless we're pushing high winds. On the 2-lane running 65-70mph we get high 30's to low 40's depending on wind. Given that you have considerable experience on your bike you may simply be twisting the throttle a bit more aggressively? -
Is there a device that will perform a blue tooth interface between a blue tooth enabled cell phone and the stock intercom on 2nd Gen RSV?

Do you mean a throttle lock? Not since I got my 2nd Gen in 06. I've used them in the past and think they're invaluable on a non-cruise control equipped bike.

I just did a quick review of "Speed Traps" listed for Wyoming and I have to say that all of them I read are exaggerations and rationalizations written by people not wanting to take responsibility for their own actions.

We did the same thing; Clearview XXL windshield with vent. My wife also says she has much less wind buffeting. The only downside is that I can't see over the windshield. I use "Pledge" to help the rain bead and slide off the windshield.

Maybe I've missed something over all the years I've ridden, but I've always been able to lock the front wheel on good pavement if I wanted to do so. Obviously, this isn't a recommended practice as a bike with a locked front wheel goes down very quickly and violently. I've never been able to get a street motorcycle to lift the rear wheel like the stunt riders I've seen. I used to do that on a bicycle in my youth, but that was a very long time ago. I think the Venture has good brakes and stops very well for a machine that often weighs 1200 pounds. I would gladly improve my brakes if doing so would shorten my stopping distance as that would be a significant safety improvement.
-
Okay. I don't mean to belabor the issue, but when the braking system can already dissipate more than enough energy to lock the front wheel; I'm trying to wrap my feeble mind around the benefit of being able to dissipate even more energy. I can certainly understand the difference in braking effort you must be experiencing when changing from your CBR to your Venture.

My wife & I took the ERC a couple of years ago with her as the passenger. It was a lot of fun and really increased her confidence level. The instructor enjoyed watching her slap the back of my helmet when I drug the floor boards. They gave her a course completion card just like everyone else, but that might have been for putting up with me.

So, if I understand correctly, replacing the calipers will not decrease stopping distance, just rider effort?
-
What good will result from changing the front calipers if you can already lock the front wheel with the existing front calipers? I understand that reduced brake lever pressure will be required with four piston calipers, but I don't see how that would decrease stopping distance, only rider effort.

My first ride of the year was yesterday! It's been a long cold snowy winter here. The snow and ice finally melted off the road and the mud was dried up to a navigational level so i finally got to ride! Rode again today, but it was a chilly 40F.

This article is a total BS! Just look at this paragraph from the referenced article; "Sarah McDaniel, with DFW Airport, told NewsRadio 1080 KRLD that it was an extremely low level and posed no danger to passengers on the flight. She says it was also not the type of radiation that would have come from a nuclear power plant." The article contradicts the headline. The problems at the nuclear plant in Japan cannot cause radiation to reach the USA or Canada.

You said that a week ago! How about so we can see some photos of the Top Secret single wheel trailer?

I have the Carbon One lift adapter with the optional legs. This is a very nice unit and I highly recommend it. See the ad in the classifieds.

A bit pricey, aren't they?

I would think the biggest issue with CNG is availability. I don't recall seeing any CNG refueling stations outside big cities. Also you should have slightly lower power/fuel mileage.

Trikes and side-car rigs handle very differently. Properly set up, both operate very well, but the handling is still very different. The handling of a trike is symmetrical and a side-car rig's handling is asymmetrical. A trike is balanced around the thrust while a side-car rig isn't. A trike wants to go straight when accelerating and stopping while a side-car rig wants to turn right during acceleration and turn left when stopping. That doesn't make one better than the other, just different. I had a side-car rig 30+ years ago when the kids were little. It was great for hauling them and they could be very well protected from the elements. Today, a good side-car rig can cost nearly as much a good trike. You can pull your trailer with either so I wouldn't sell it unless you need the cash.

Please come to Wyoming and take our snow! We haven't seen bare ground since last October. We have 2+ feet of snow cover...
