  1. The Progressive 420 is a replacement spring/shock combo. You have to do a manual adjustment to the shock, by way of a threaded nut, before you install the shock. There will be no air connection from the CLASS to the rear shock. The CLASS will only supply air to the front forks. Let me know how it was to change the rear shock, preferably with photos!!! I have researched this, but have yet to do it. Maybe in the fall... !!!
  2. Yes!! Is anyone still making the cables, or do I have to do it myself??
  3. Are the modded battery cables still available?? The last PM I sent (back in Jan 09) went unread!!
  4. One of the many winter projects I have is to fix (Hopefully!) my radio. The Mem light is on constantly, and you can't set any stations. I have to pull the radio apart to see what's up, and to clean it. Any words of wisdom before I start???
  5. The old fuse block ain't doin' it anymore. Aside from the corrosion that keeps coming back time after time, yesterday one of the fuse holders broke off, so the fuse won't be held now. Luckily, it was the ACC fuse!! Who's got a good setup on their ride?? I'd like to move over to the newer auto fuses. I've tried a few different fuse blocks, but can't find one that is small enough to fit under the faux cover. Any ideas, manufacturers, parts stores???
  6. When you're putting the top cover back on, be sure and make sure the needle for the volt meter is above the stop. If you don't the needle can't move UP when you turn on the ignition! I spend a good part of one day troubleshooting my charging system before realizing this little fact! Doh!!!!
  7. How about a Revco oil filter adapter??
  8. Where the heck are the vacuum pump, actuator, and the solenoid valve for the cruise control located?? My cruise doesn't work, and I've got a whistle somewhere under the fairing! Aside from driving me crazy, I really would like the cruise to work!! I'm guessing the whistle is coming from one of the vacuum lines because my engine runs great, pulls hard, and doesn't miss or sputter. I'm getting 40mpg, and I ride kinda fast to and from work (70 - 80mph), 40 miles round trip everyday. The cruise has worked on and off since I bought the bike three years ago. One of the problems was a worn out clutch lever, then a bad switch on the clutch side. When I do the ops check that the service manual offers, everything checks out good. I just need to check the vacuum lines, but I have to find them first!!!
  9. No, not the swimsuit!! The odometer works good, no noises at all. The speedometer works no more, after a very heavy rain the bike was out in the other day. I'm hoping things will dry out inside, and I'll be able to keep the Law from writing me speeding tickets!! However, in case I need Plan B, anyone have any ideas/suggestions of how to fix said problem?? Thanks to all!!
  10. I need the entire lock unit, I believe Yamaha calls it a GRIP, SADDLEBAG, p/n 54K-28408-00-00, from the parts fiche TRAVELBAG, item #42. The backrest is from the same , item #47. I'd really like to stay with this particular trunk. I found it, still in the original box, at my local dealer. It matches my paint, and he gave me one heck of a discount on the price. According to the parts fiche, the lock p/n is the same from 1985 to 1990. Just my luck, though. I finally find a decent trunk, but won't be able to dig up a backrest!! The wife says she won't ride with me until she has a backrest to lean on. Now I really have a dilemma!!!!
  11. Finally found a trunk for the ride!! That's the good news! Bad news is that I still need the key/lock mechanism, and the backrest for the Mrs to lean on! I call upon the hordes of Venture owners to scrounge through their piles of extra parts to help a fella out!! The 85 trunk is the large one, I believe it was the first year the big trunks were introduced. If any of you fine people can help me out, just PM me. I'm not looking for donations, I'll gladly pay for parts, and reimburse shipping. Thanks to all the great people on this site. You have helped me with my bike in many ways!!
  12. Thanks, all! The broken off piece was turned in the mount just enough that I couldn't see the tab that needs to be pushed in to release it. A little prying and some pulling and it came out. Now, I hope this is a part I can still get from the dealer, that won't break the bank!!
  13. First off, a BIG Thank You to bongobobny for the parts I needed!! Next - dumb question time. How do you get the switch out of the clutch lever mount??? Mine is broken off, with a piece still in the mount. I wondered why the cruise wasn't working! I must be having a Senior Moment Attack, I can't get the @$&^*# piece out!! What holds the switch in place??
  14. I'm looking for grab rails, engine and luggage guards, the brackets along each side of the rear fender that the saddlebags clip onto, also the trunk mount rack. Need trunk and saddlebags too, but can't afford those yet!! Let me know if you're willing to part with those parts!! Thanks!!!
  15. Thinking about putting a Progressive rear shock on the ride. I already have changed the front springs to Progressive, what a difference!!!! How hard is removing the rear shock?? The front end was cake, is the back as easy??:confused24:
  16. Are the bolt-on engine and luggage guards for 83-85 VRs still available out there??? Sure wouldn't mind having a set on the ride, haven't been able to find them. Any ideas????? Thanks to all!!!!
  17. Is it just a matter of changing the bulb, or is it more involved???
