  1. What ever Carl said...You might have missed a connection.
  2. I thought there was an FJR regulator you can use the on the bike. You can buy them cheap and offer another alternative.
  3. Abdul is a great man.His wife is the kindest person.Prayers are sent to him and his wife.
  4. How do clean the lower tube. One of bikes has a lower tube blocked with old coolant.
  5. Sorry we could not make it.Sounds like another great turn out.
  6. The only problem you will have with the FJR is keeping the smile off your face.
  7. You will never get your time and effort out of your bike.As Wizard said , you do the upgrades for you.Wayne did a fabulous job on this 84. I have highly modified my Brown 86 and I am in the process of rebuilding another Black 86.You get what you get at the time you sell it.For me if it the pride of ownership and turning of heads as you ride by.
  8. HI Brenner.Well I am in Mississauga.I am rebuilding and repairing an 86. I went to Que to pic up a cheap identical donor bike.It was the best thing I could have done.It was cheaper to do this then order all the parts I needed from Ebay.If you are doing a completed rebuild the guys on this page are putting you in the right direction.Just use common sense when you rebuild. There are lots of us in your area that could help you if needed. Cheers and good luck.
  9. Here is something to think about. When you turn the key you might here and could here the clicking from the fuel pump trying the charge the carb bowls with fuel. If you don't here that you may not be getting fuel to carb. Gingerly sprints the tops of the cabs with fuel.If the engine is showing an interest in starting it is a fuel problem.Check fuse to the pump.
  10. You need one of these. Sometimes. I do it this way.
  11. I rented and picked my bike up.Great and cheap if you can do it. I did a return rental. One way is more expensive.
  12. I am rebuilding an unloved 86 Venture Royal. When I got her the trunk was falling off , floor shifter broken and clutch not working. There was stuff just falling off her.I managed to find a donor bike her color and I am in the process of getting her back together.I am pulling off the donor body parts and will be offering them up if anyone is interested. It is the two tone darker color. I will post some picks to show how it is going.I am adding led lighting and giving her a nice good look. She was a looker even as a junky bike before.I hope I will succeed.
  13. HI Pete> did you win this motor. This is too bad. I am scrapping my 86 donor .It seems to have a great motor.Too bad you don't live in Canada. Ray Here are a couple links of the bike running if anyone is interested. It is Cheery brown and still has lots on her.
  14. I once saw a posting on someone who was making decals for first gen bikes.I am looking for the decorative ones for the class unit, dash etc.I saw them in a faux wood grain. Can anyone help? Thanks Ray:confused07:
  15. Congtrats to you doing the ride.Sorry about your buddy and his beautiful bike. You have added another one to your list now. Ray
  16. Did you find a final drive yet?
  17. Have a safe trip.I have done it too. Good luck.
  18. Sorry for your loss Ben.I met him too and he was a very nice doggy. I have dogs too and I do understand how you feel . Remember his fond memories.
  19. Thanks Neil for the info.I was aware of the timing circuit of the pump. When I picked it up the PO was convinced the TCI was gone.I had a hunch it was some thing else. He was not a good trouble shooter I guess.I will put it all back together and then run it again.
  20. Update: So, I got to thinking about things.I pulled the connector to the fuel pump, attached a multi meter to the connections and turn on the key. I got 11.2 volts for about 5 seconds.Hum, I said. The PO had pulled the air box off in desperation because of the no start condition. I did a light spray of ether on top of the carbs then hit the starter. The bike seemed interested. Then, I got ambitious and dribbled gas into all carbs.I then hit the starter button and instant start for a few seconds.I was just the fuel pump. Thanks for all your help guys.I have an extra pump lying around here somewhere and will swap it out and then post it running. I will be selling this bike if anyone is interested. It is not perfect but neither am I.Cheers, Ray
  21. It is a companion bike Dave........LOL
  22. I just picked up an 86 Venture Royal. It will turn over and but not start. So far I checked the ignition fuse and it seems good,.According to the schematics it also powers the the cruise wich lights up when bike turned on.I am not hearing the fuel pump chatter i would normally hear. I will check for spark later. Is there a junction in the harness I should be looking for? THe PO said it ran last year. What are peoples thoughts.Battery is good and has lots of juice.
  23. I think there are two sets up pick up points on that bike that control spark.Maybe someone could add to your thoughts. If the pickups were not working( maybe) those two cylinders would not fire. The 83 bikes were the odd ball timing TCI bikes with there exclusive unit. If that checks out, it sounds like a TCI problem. You should see if you could borrow a working unit to find out.
  24. A couple of checks: Are you in gear with the kickstand down.? Have you hit the kill switch?Check solenoid connections.Do you lights dim when you hit the starter button?
