paysaw replied to RedRider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Depending on your distance and finances you should buy another battery. Keep it as a spare and when your dies switch it. -
Front brake light switch

Hi.You may be able to track one down on Ebay. I had the same problem with my 86 and actually rebuilt the switch and springs.I cleaned up the contacts and remelted the plastic so it would work fine.I never had a problem after. One of the contacts are high current. Good luck with it. -
Cruise control not working
paysaw replied to Duderoy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I took apart a speedo once from an 86 Venture that showed speed but no mileage. There are gears in the speedo that run the mileage counter. One side of it was worn out. There seemed no way to fix it aside from completely disassembling it.Just thought I would throw that out if it meant something. -
Sorry to see her go.I had to let one of mine go too.I was not riding her anymore and was burning insurance money.Good luck to you on finding a new job too.

I had a Honda St1100.That was a nice little sports touring bike.Fast, easy to handle and real easy on parts. My recent bike is a FJR1300. Great bike and lots of power.Handles like a dream and not buzzy at all.Easy on parts too.Motors are bullet proof.I sold my Venture recently.

I have a Yamaha FJR1300 and other 86 Venture I will put back together and sell.

I pretty much got it this way.It had some issues that I fixed and added and customized her to death.I added LED lighting everywhere. Before she goes I will take a video and show you.Sad to see her go, but not riding her anymore.
-
With sadness I sold my 86 Venture. She is going to a new home now and the guy that bought her loves her.It was love at first site for him.

Class system woes
paysaw replied to van avery's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had the same problems with my controller.I never cursed at something so much until i discovered something.I had a bad harness connector to the back of my main controller.I snipped the wires and put on another one from a donor unit and have not had a problem since.I have a spare complete pump system if you want it and will pay for shipping from Canada. -
Congrats Carl.!!!

83 venture vs royal
paysaw replied to Matt_P's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There has been lots of good advice about your repairs and bike. The market on the bikes are soft right now.I have a bought a few Ventures over the years.I ride them and then sell more often for less then I paid for them.I have sold many parts and have given much away.I once bought a bike for some parts and sold it for more then what I paid for it parted out.Good luck and I hope you get at least one running. -
So sorry to hear about this Bob.Just take it easy and read your body. If it becomes unbearable it might be time to see a doc.Prayers are with you Bob. Take care.

With sadness I have to say my mother of 90 years passed aways quietly yesterday. She was a great person and parent.I can only hope i can live that long.
-
I have an FJR and a Venture. They are two different animals. The FJR is a great around bike.Easy to ride and very responsive. The venture is slow and comfy. It depends on how you want to ride. FJR1300 can ride all day in the rain with no worries. If you are looking for a change, it is a good bike to explore.

Clutch switch
paysaw replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had some plastic pieces from a Venture I used to melt down and build up the cavity. It was tedious but i got it done. It is in my bike still and works fine. This part is very hard to find so i rebuilt mine. There is lots of current on the contact.I think that is why it melts. -
Clutch switch
paysaw replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am not sure how bad your switch is but I managed to rebuild mine. I cleaned the tabs and rebuilt the plastic. Both cruise and brake work fine. The switch without the cruise is not the same. -

I had that same problem. My slave unit was jammed. You could bleed it out but when bleed screw tightened, the same problem as you. When I pulled it out it was full of gunk.

mexico VIN and parts
paysaw replied to tntviper1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My First gen Canadia 83 Royal only had the 9 numbers as well.I was told the numbering system had changed in the early 80s and this was one of the last with the old numbering system. -
What you learn about these bikes is they are reckless as the rider. They are just as controllable as a Venture. The only difference is they can get to places faster if and only if you ask it too.My speed demon days are gone.It is a very responsive bike.If you ride it responsibly it is an amazing motorcycle. The difference with a bike like this is that it is effortless to ride with no sense of fear. If you want a bike that can cruise all day long with lower revs, big power , quiet, big torque and effortlessly peg scrape you might look into one.

I think you have fuel circuit problems. If the carbs were not maintained, or fuel additives added i think you have nasty build up in the circuits. My money is to pull carbs and rebuild. A better result.Adding the choke only enriches the fuel mixture,If you are maxed out and can only run in that position, it could be a fuel flow problem. Good luck.

I had one for a couple of years. Good if you are skinny and not too tall. You can get extentions for the handlebars if needed. One of the easiest bikes I have even been on.It has a big gas tank and gets great fuel milage.I great bike to ride in the rain with no fear.I was not keen on the riding position myself.Put your leg over it and see.You might like it.The police use to use them. They are fast and light.

Clutch basket remove
paysaw replied to dna9656's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I don't remember that much drama pulling my basket off. I took the parts off and used an impact gun to loosen the big nut on the shaft. There was some kind of a retainer clip on it too.Once i got that out of the way, it was breeze. Good luck with it. -
I will look and see if i have one too.
