I really don't think almost everyone is against government healthcare...in fact, my guess is that EVERY ONE of us that is 65 or older would not turn down a medicare payment to a hospital or physician. The government has been a part of healthcare since 1965, so it's nothing new. Eagle77, you made the best argument...you've had no problems with the "government ran" healthcare. You'll notice that the non-government insurance companies prefer to insure younger and healthier individuals as opposed to us older folks...that's not by accident. OK...I'm off my "healthcare" soapbox. Dragonrider...I do hope your wife gets the help and surgery she needs. Wally

And while I don't intend on this turning into a political discussion...this is why HEALTHCARE REFORM should have been passed in it's original form (from about 3 months ago). As of right now the HEALTHCARE INSURANCE COMPANIES have won. I have been in healthcare for over 35 years and I see it FIRST HAND. As long as the Blue Cross/Blue Shields (and Usable, Athena, Humana's) of the U.S. are able to monopolize the healthcare industry with higher premiums, higher deductibles, and fewer services...our healthcare will always be in a mess...and I got news for ya...it's gonna get worse before it gets better...and all because the healthcare used scare tactics and inaccurate information, not to mention their powerful lobby. Not that it bothers me...

I have a set of passing lights on order for my 2009 Venture, but now I am having second thoughts about installing them. Yes, I know they are safer and make night driving better, but it also means just ANOTHER mod added to the electrical system and another thing to go wrong. So, I'm interested in opinions from BOTH those that have passing lights and those that decided against installing passing lights. Do you feel they enhance the look of the bike or detract away from it? Thanks...I am really on the fence about this one. Wally

I hope so...this is how I plan to connect my Zumo 660 and the Nuvi should be the same. The only questions I need to ask (and I haven't asked yet) is the power hookup. Some say straight to the battery (which is how I have always done it in the past) and others say you can get power from something in the fairing, but I have others say sometimes there is interference (ground loop effect?). I will ask formerly when I install my Zumo (next week's install). Wally

OK...I got the gloves today. The gloves FIT VERY WELL...I really like the way they feel. Unfortunately, that is the ONLY good thing about these gloves. They don't feel very durable, and the heating properties of the gloves are almost non-existent and that's after being turned on for about 15 minutes INDOORS. So most of you guys were RIGHT (and I figured you probably would be)...but like I said before, somebody has to touch the "Wet Paint"...and I love volunteering. Wally

I'm dyslexic...are the letters messed up or something?

Couldn't you modify a heating pad to a 12 volt and just use that?

Just like loehring says, if you buy cheap (cheap = little or no features and/or maps), then you'll regret your decision. I have owned the Zumo 550 since the DAY it came out (I was one of the first to own one)...and just purchased the Zumo 660 when it came out several months back...The Zumo 550 is a SOLID and TESTED GPS. I still use my Zumo 550 (with XM) in my truck everyday and when I bought the Zumo 660, it went on the bike. You can actually purchase the Zumo 660 cheaper than you can the Zumo 550...although if you look hard enough you can occasionally pick up the Zumo 550 cheaper. You do have SEVERAL OPTIONS HERE if you want the more expensive Garmins...you can purchase DISCONTINUED models or you can purchase the REFURBED/RECONDITIONED units. I run (and own) the Zumoforums.com website and when I started the website we expected maybe 200 members...I mean really, a motorycle GPS forum????? Who would have thought 4 years later I would have over 23,000 members and we are SPECIFIC ONLY TO THE ZUMO line of GPS's. Again, the Zumo 550 is well documented as being ONE OF THE BEST motorcycle GPS (The Zumo 660 still has some minor issues to work out - for some people). And while the GPS is just ANOTHER tool on your motorcycle, if properly used it can you great information, great fun, great music and some directions (if you learn to use it properly). FINALLY, if you just DON'T want to spend that kind of money, you can purchase one of the less expensive Garmin units (most of the 4" screen models use the same case)...at least get one with an MP3 player...you might not think you'll want it...but you will at some point. As for being waterproof...even with my Zumo and it being water resistant, I still cover it with a baggie. Almost any GPS covered with a baggie (and rubber band) can withstand most rainy day riding (unless you take it into the river). Good luck on your decision. Wally

How to install the BuddyRich Blue-Tooth Cable
rumboogy replied to Cougar's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Squidley, these images are no longer on your photobucket account. If the account is closed...I would be more than happy to host the images. I have 3 websites and plenty of room...just let me know. Wally -
I went to the Dealer today and was going to go ahead and get a couple of keys made. I had one of my own blanks to be used for a custom key, but thought I would get a couple of more keys cut...YEOW. When the guy at the counter told me the price of the OEM key...$45.60. DANGGGGG The guy did tell me they had some plain blanks they sell, but those were backordered right now... So be careful with that OEM Key...thars gold in that thar key. Wally

I am a HUGE Janis Joplin fan. I believe she is the BEST Rock and Roll Blues singer that ever lived. I even spent megabux for a autographed album. And not only that....one the trips I have planned this year is an Elvis (Graceland) to Janis Joplin ride (Port Arthur, TX -Museum of the Gulf Coast). Her Mercedes Benz (psychodelic) is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio. I am also heading out east and one of the largest collectors of Janis Memorobila lives in Knoxville, TN and has said I can stop by to see some of that stuff. But besides all of that...She was a HELLUVA a singer and always put her heart and soul into her music. If you like Cry Baby...you also need to Youtube and see "Maybe", "Try just a little bit harder", "Piece of my heart" and finally "Little Girl Blue". Enjoy. Wally

Passing Lights Switch
rumboogy replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
LilBeaver...I do appreciate the advice and explanation. Sounds pretty logical to me. Thanks, Wally -
When I bought my 2009 Venture about a week ago...I went ahead and paid for passing lights and a luggage rack on the trunk... I assume there is nothing they can really mess up on the luggage rack, but I am a little concerned about the passing lights. I don't want to do it myself, but I would like to "know what I am talking about" when I tell them how I want them mounted. My questions are: 1) Would it be better to have them on a relay? and 2) what type of switch should I ask for and where should it be mounted? I searched and saw that some have it mounted next to the 12 volt auxiliary plug. Any tips? Thanks, Wally

Good question...I just figured that all motorcycle plates were the same size since motorcycles usually have the bracket about the same size on all models...although I did notice the Venture had an "adjustable" plate holder.
