  1. Here in Oregon they are going to go to 10% Ethanol state wide which is going to cause a lot of problems with anything that has a carburetor. Water separation in the fuel will be the biggest problem with any vehicle that is stored for any period of time, and motorized items such as two cycle outboard motors will be the hardest hit because mixed fuel (oil & gas) will not flow past water at all, next hardest hit will be the stored vehicles then the older ones. Our trade Mags, that we get are saying the worst is yet to come. :bang head: :bang head: :bang head:   .
  2. Chocking I had a lot of trouble getting our 1st gen up on the stand to, so I made a short roller stand which did the trick. Since we are converting our 1st gen into a trike the short roller stand is up for grabs (sale) its custom built so I don't no what it is worth. If you are interested let me know. :) :) :).
  3. The starter button doesn't carry the electrical load to the starter, all it does is energize the starter solenoid which then transfers the juice to the appropriate starter, using a toggle switch just moves the initial signal from the original engine electric starter solenoid to the reverser starter solenoid which automatically makes the one not in use inoperable. I don't think I would want to put a ring gear on the disc brake rotor as it would create more unsprung weight on one side of the vehicle, you would also have to weld mounts directly to the diff axle tube which could make it warp and some how balance every thing as a unit, also the ring gear would have to be small enough to clear the inside of the wheel. Obviously you would have to weld or build mounts off the third member if you mount the ring gear on the pinion yoke, but there are a lot of thick places to even drill and tap holes besides using the rear cover bolts for mounting. .
  4. As some of you know we are turning our 89 VR into a trike. In my research I found out some trike company's offer a reverse by installing a starter ring gear to a disk attached to the pinion yoke of the 7.5" ford Diff or to the opposite side of the axle where a belt or chain drive is used. I removed a 38 tooth flywheel ring gear from a 35-40 hp OMC outboard motor flywheel, they use 8 -1/4" bolts to hold the ring gear on. I then machined a disk out of 1/4" plate steel that would fit tightly over the index lip of a modified 7.5" pinion yoke. 8 holes are drilled through the plate to match corresponding holes in the yoke. I then turned the outside circle down with a index lip to fit the ring gear and drilled 8 -1/4" holes in the outside perimeter to fit the ring gear. We are building our trike with independent rear suspension so the frame work holding the Diff will be made to hold the starter assy. We are planing on using a toggle switch that can be switched between the engine starter/solenoid and the reverse starter/solenoid and use the regular start button on the right handle bar for both functions. This is the only way I now of to get a reverse on a Yamaha. I hope this will help answer some questions and give someone a start on there own reverser. .
  5. Skipop. I almost bought a Hannigan trike body for our trike build, but we didn't care for the body style as much as the Tri Wing DX Cruiser, We are very disappointed in the quality of there work. I new going in that it had to be fitted, but the glass lay-up is very thin in some places and a half inch thick in other place's, it is out of square almost a half inch and the wheel openings are not in the same place on both sides, the body also has a twist in it that has to be worked with. Oh yeah I forgot Tri Wing says deal with it your the one that wanted to build your own trike from scratch!!! Anyway enjoy your trike. .
  6. MEANDOG. Keep your chin up and keep watching Ebay, I'm sure you will find one. Good Luck. vicco27
  7. MEANDOG. My statement on the Ebay favorite was incorrect. It is just TRIKES and there is a used Voyager listed now with a buy it now price of $2.800 listed on the 14th. Good luck. .
  8. Mark I have a favorites marked ( Motor Trikes ) for Ebay that has listed used Voyager Kits in the past. I think there is one on there now. Good luck. .
  9. From our house to all of yours. Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year to all. GOD BLESS. Sincerely. Vic & Marilla
  10. All those parts in the shop, in the back yard, in the attic to build our new trike with, oh and the new Mac mufflers to install on the new trike too. Santa would be very angry if they don't get all used up and become a trike.
  11. Cool Man!
  12. We used to have family arguments over which tree at which lot and when we would finally decide which one and go back to get The One! it would be gone. Then a pretty little FAKE tree came home to live with us and all is well.
  13. I'm sorry My brain thought $479.95 and my fingers gave everyone a $100.00 Discount that Harbor Freight doesn't know about. The right price is ....$479.95 sorry again for the mistake. .
  14. I bought Item # 94813-OVGA Lift from Harbor Freight, Which is a 1200 Lb lift. It is 79.5" long 24" wide and is 7'' high when down and 33" high when up. I'm going to be building our trike on it. I'm installing 2 -16" X 16" wings to the outside rear corners plus adding 6" to the overall length also at the rear making it 85.5" long overall and 56" wide where the rear trike tires will set. I ordered it through a store but from the on line catalog #94813-OVGA and it was shipped to the store and I picked it up there and the total cost was $379.95 NO FREIGHT charges. I belive it is well worth the money. :) :) :).
  15. I remember recently reading threads that talked about computers crashing and people losing all kinds of stored info pictures, files, folders, etc. We had our computer crash on the Th to the point it wouldn't even restart, all we were getting was a blue screen. We had knowledge of a small computer shop locally (Practical Computers Inc.) a husband & wife with a couple of employees, anyway they have been around for a long time. We took seven years of our life to them in a dead tin can on Monday the Th and and got it back on the RD with a like new hard drive, double the memory and all of our stuff we thought was lost is still there, and we have the old hard drive if they missed anything (they said bring in the old hard drive and they would find it). Yes it cost $150,00 to have it fixed. If I would have installed the new $45.00 CD writer two weeks before the computer crashed (it crashed while putting the CD writer in) we would have had the capability to save things to disc so we wouldn't have been taking a chance on losing them later. Live and learn. Put a disc writer in your computer so you can download your memory's. I hope this will give some of you a reason to smile as I'm sure there is a computer repair shop that can save your memory's too.
  16. I'm not absolutely positive but I don't think you can install the Hannagin kit yourself, It has to be installed by one of there dealers or by Hannagin them self, which makes it very expensive. Buzz should be able to answer that Question
  17. My son thinks I'm nuts not going with the InstaTrike or the Voyager kit but my ego wants me to build a Trike, so a Trike it is, by spring the other ideas may be looking pretty good. .
  18. I was up front with them about buying a salvaged 1st gen TriWing trike! Frank. Was the trike under warranty when you had the axle problem. Since I'm going to go ahead and build a IRS trike, the worst thing that can happen is it won't work and I'll have to install the TriWing kit with the new Cruiser DX body. Best scenario is that there are enough replacement parts with the $500.00 salvage 1st gen trike (frame, radiator, front forks, front wheel etc) and what I take off Charlize that I can build a nice bike to sell, or rebuild the original TriWing (we don't like the classic style body that's why we got the DX Cruiser) classic body and build up a TriWing-ed 1st gen to sell. Know matter how things work out I don't think We can loose. I just think TriWing will be hard to deal with if you were not the one who originally lined there pockets. :) :) :).
  19. Jim. (no last name given) called at a little after 10:00 am this morning and seemed quite nice, we talked about this that and the other thing including gear ratios, it seems that a 3.08.1 gear is actually the correct direct equivalent for a 1st gen to bring the gearing out right, (RSV and newer use 3.45.1 because of the overdrive 5th gear) but with the extra weight of a trike he said that they recommend 3.27.1 but has seen people use as low as a 3.73.1 for special application. I'm going to use 3.27.1 with P195X50X15" tires which will actually lower the gearing to wards 3.45.1 and then go up in tire size if I feel I need to. The conversation also delved into the earlier negative responses I had received from them and I was told that they had made an exception in selling me the body and would likely not do it again. I asked him what would happen if someone needed a replacement body due to a wreck and he evaded the issue and went on to say that if I needed parts it sounded like I could build any of the steel fabricated parts, and the bearings bushings bolts & diff parts etc, could be gotten from my local suppliers, Auto parts houses or from ford. (to my knowledge ford does not make custom shortened axles) He blew the axle question off. All in all he tried to make nice but unless you are a Professional mechanic, steel fabricator, mechanist, and welder in my opinion if you need something from TriWing after you by there product your screwed. .
  20. I worked the County - State election today and when I got home tonight there were two messages from a Jim at TriWing, we should be able to get together tomarow on the phone and talk. I may have misjudged them. I will keep all of you posted. :) :) :) :confused24: :confused24: :confused24:.
  21. The rest of the story! I didn't want to tell the whole story until I had to. About 3 months ago I asked my grandson to find TriWings location in the hopes to find a fiberglass builder in the area that built there body's, the hope was they were not under contract to TriWing and they would build a body of some sort for me. Well bored 15 year olds are not the best help. He also sent an Email to find out if TriWing built there own body's which they did, not what I wanted but it got me off my butt and I contacted TriWing myself ( the grandson had used his own Email and said that the body was needed for a wrecked trike) but the coincidence of two inquires so close together raised suspicion in ******* the woman who does the Emails and phone at TriWing, So I told her that we were one in the same and that we needed the body for a 1st gen that had rear ended something, and then been rear ended that we had purchased through salvage, I told her I was going to put the kit with a needed new body on our own 89 Venture royal. They agreed to sell me the body after a couple more Email conversations and were very cordial and friendly until after I had received the body and questioned the extra freight charges. Now you know the rest of the story. :bang head: :bang head: :bang head:    :confused24: :confused24: :confused24:. PS. A couple of other trike builders were willing to sell me a body no questions asked, TriWing did not want to sell me the body even if I owned the TriWing kit saying they did not sell parts and pieces. I had to claim Disability (which I am) before they agreed to sell me the body.
  22. Just to let everyone know Jerry has been a big help! :) :) :). For the record I have decided to go with independent rear suspension. I settled on 89 - 94 Tbird - Cougar IRS 7.5 rear end with 3.27.1 gear ratio. The 1st Gen has a little lower transmission final ratio than the RSV which uses a 3.45.1 rear end. Now we own a TriWing DX Cruiser body and a whole pile of used 91 Cougar IRS parts Wow.
  23. In the past few months I have been dealing with TriWing Trikes to obtain a DX Cruiser body. After selling us the body they have become rude. The only thing we have done is to question an EXTRA $125.00 shipping charge, and ask them which gear ratio they would recommend a 3.45.1 or a 3.27.1, oh I also asked if they had a tech line if ******* was not available. Hear is some of the negative correspondence. I hope this will give someone a heads up before they deal with them.   It costs us $75.00 to ship to Vancouver, and the Vancouver to your residence was $350.00 as the below message I received states. That is a total of $425.00. As you paid $300.00, you still owe $125.00, I was not aware that we put the gear ratio in our instructions. I don’t see how I can assist you. This was a project you decided to take on instead of purchasing a proper kit, so I would say you are on your own. I don’t have a tech person sitting here to ask your questions to and I don’t put kits together. I have a manual courtesy of Jerry-M and it does give gear ratio and recommended tire size PS. I went and picked the body up at the trucking company it was not delivered to our shop.
  24. Good luck! you can do it! The wife and I quit at the same time , that was over 11 years ago and counting our blessings.
