  1. I beg the differ on the aluminum body. Mine had been in some kind of an accident altercation before I traded for and was told it had had a total repaint, right after I got it the paint started to come loose from all over the body, deck lid, one fender and also falling off the hood so I contacted the previous owner to find out who had painted it so I could have them redo the paint job. Thats when I got the rest of the story, it seems that the reason the guy got rid of it was because the paint had fell of before and the shop had redone it again. When I took it back for a third repaint the company said they would do no more, that they didn't know how to keep the paint stuck to an aluminum body. Not long after I heard of a collector that gave me a nice price at the time $2.500.00. I latter found out you have to etch the aluminum with acid and then use a special zinc chromate primer to make the paint stay on oh well live and learn
  2. If it is an MGB GT coupe carefully check the body with a magnet, if would happen NOT to stick it would be one of the very rare aluminum bodied models, I recently saw one sell in the mid six figures. I once had one and wish I still had it, it was a blast to drive. Good Luck.

  4. Thanks again for the original post about checking gears. I hadn't thought of checking mine until you brought it up. Checking mine was a pain in the butt, but they checked out fine so all's well that ends well. Hopefully other people will read this and take the precaution of checking, or having their gears checked, FIRST and then not have any problems. Again, a big thanks for the post and good luck.
  5. In the not too distant past, someone posted that having the rear end gears re-setup when using a Ford 7.5" rear end in a Yamaha VR or equivalent trike project was mandatory. Upon whoever it was freaking me out, I stopped working on the trike until I could get a chance to pull the rear end (mine is an independent rear end) Anyway...upon removing it, pulling the inspection cover, and using Prussian blue on the gear set and rotating them in the proper direction, I found out I had freaked out over nothing. The proper imprint pattern was better turning them this direction than it had been when they were in the Cougar I took them out of. My point is, don't freak out over this same situation until you've had the gear set checked for proper imprint. You may not have to spend anything except a gasket and some lube. Now I can continue with my project feeling much more comfortable. I'm not saying the person's post was bad--and I appreciate the post because it made me stop and think about something I hadn't considered--but it isn't necessarily something to freak out about. Just have it checked, you may be okay like I am.
  6. Since we'll probably just be sitting here watching movies or something equally boring, I'll try to drop by. Ummm, but....I don't have a toga and all my sheets are king size so don't like wearing them. Likely will show up nekkid. Do hope that's not a problem. I'll try not to be drunk, too. Mrs. Vicco
  7. Wow! Who would have thought that could be done? .
  8. Wow! I'm so touched. All you wonderful people who took time out of your lives to give advice to a stranger! Believe me, it's been most welcome. I've read through everything, the stuff that's applicable will be implimented. Sunday, that's the first day we can get away for it, we're going shopping for a different helmet. Thanks so much, everyone. M
  9. Mrs. Vicco here. Saturday we went for our first ride together. To put it mildly, it didn't go well. No, we didn't go down or anything like that. The problem was, I was a nervous wreck. To begin, I'm claustrophobic so putting on the helmet started a panic attack. I couldn't see, hear, or breathe. Opening the visor helped on the breathing, but the reduced vision stayed a problem. Vic said he thought we worked very well together when it came to stopping, cornering, etc., but I was in a state of terror almost the whole time we were out. So...any advice out there to help a newbie relax? And don't say, "Just relax," that doesn't help. I know I'm supposed to relax. What I'm looking for is advice and explanations that will help me relax. Cornering/leaning was especially frightening. Right hand turns were worse than left for some reason. The odd thing is, we rode together many years ago and we went through corners, leaned, stopped, all that. But I don't remember any of it. BTW, we're going shopping for a different helmet before we go out again.
  10. AKRefugee. Are you using their fast 4 to 5 day shipping method or slower 15 to 20 day shipping? The price sounds like the slower method. Just curious. .
  11. We also have used http://www.haulbikes.com with good success. Their Email address is information@haulbikes.com. Good luck maybe we'll see you hear on the left coast? .

  13. a1bummer We are building our 1986 1st gen trike our selfs with IRS, The rear end is out of a 91 Cougar (7.5 Ford 3.31 ratio) flipped over so it turns the right direction, we are using P235/50/15" tires & the Cougar wheels. I am hand fabricating the frame trellis system, and the reverser, and the IRS W/coil over shocks. We will be mounting a TriWing DX Cruiser body to finish everything off. I would be done by now if my busy season hadn't interrupted me (Vicco Marine Repair) one has to eat you know. lol. Eventually I hope to post all of the photos of the project. .
  14. Several of the members here on the site have Yamaha Hannigan trike conversions but I don't remember who they are, I'm sure they will surface sooner or later you might ask for a raise of hands in the general forum. We personally will not deal with TriWing again, after purchase of our DX Cruiser body ( $2.500.00 w/freight ) I tried to ask them a couple of question about other parts availability and a question concerning gear ratios as our wreck had 3.73.1s and I questioned that as being to low, any way they basically told us they would not be interested any further conversations. ( We don't condone what you are doing and will give you no further help ). I didn't care for the crude engineering on the TriWing kit anyway so I decided to go my own way and build an IRS trike from scratch, selling the broken TriWing kit for more than I paid for the whole wrecked trike w/ a spare frame and front end. I'm hoping to get some photos posted soon for all to see. :) :) :).
  15. I'm 66 got my first bike at 12. Oh you guys meant Motorcycle? I got one of those at 18 or 19. .
  16. I think there is only three or four that make conversions for the 2nd gen, Hannigan is the first one that comes to mind then Motor Trike, Champion & Tri Wing. I didn't like any of the factory conversions so I decided to build my own conversion, I'm building the sub frame and frame connection system out of 1.5" X 1.0" steel 1/8" wall steel tubing, I'm building it with IRS the bases of which is a 1991 Cougar 7.5" IRS rear end, I have a reverse system incorporating a 35 hp outboard motor flywheel attached to the pinion yoke and spun by an outboard motor starter, all I have left to do is build and mount the suspension and build the axles oh and about 50 little things that I haven't come across yet, . We liked the Tri Wing DX Cruiser Body so that will be finish mounted and painted to match the bike after the conversion itself is finished. I hope this helps you get started. .
  17. For what its worth I think Hamilton will win again and Kimi will be second.
  18. There is a newly listed 1989 Venture Royale Motor Trike listed on Ebay. It looks like it is in good condition and could make someone very happy, if they are in the market for a trike. The Item # is 320259998833 just type that # into the search box and it will take you right to it. Good Luck. .
  19. Gas tank was scoured out with small sheet metal screws suspended in carb cleaner, I installed new shut of valve filters and a new rock type in line fuel filter on fuel line, pilot jets were new, As soon as I can I'm going to pull everything of and start from scratch methodically checking each problem myself rather than having my son do some of it. Thanks Again. .
  20. Yammer Dan! I sprayed ether around the base of the carbs early on and that is why we put new intake manifolds on, we haven't sprayed since, we will do it again. mraf! Yes the carbs were boiled out thoroughly twice, RPM will gain and hold a little higher than the throttle blips highest RPM until you can get the idle screw turned down, I rode it a couple of times when it was doing this and I could let the clutch out with it in gear an that would bring the RPMs down and they would stay down until you accelerated again. McCarl! I have tried going out past 3 turns on the idle mixture screws but it doesn't seem to make a difference, I don't remember the carb brand names but they are the ones that have the diaphragm operated slides, As I said before I have had the carbtune on the bike and it seemed to adjust out fine, although the adjustments were made with the engine hot after it had gone through this transition period. The bike only has 7.846 miles on it so I can't believe the carbs are wore out and they seem like new. The gas tank had some rust in it and the carbs were taken of to clean, the owner had a brain aneurysm and died. I bought the bike from the mother who knows the bikes history and was willing to bring me up to date on what took place to park the bike. Thanks all. I'll look again for a vacuum leak and retry the ether. If anyone thinks of anything else let me know. I'll post if I find anything.
  21. I have a 1983 XS650 that will start fine using the enricher however the enricher does not seem to increase RPM the way it should, anyway the only way to keep the engine running until the motor is hot is to increase the idle speed by turning in the idle stop screw about 1 to 1.5 turns, eventually when you blip the throttle the motor will start to free wind on its own, when this happens you can turn the idle stop screw back out the 1 to 1.5 turns and the engine will idle fine and the bike will operate fine until you go to restart it again when it has gotten cold. The carbs were not on the bike when I got it ( they were apart in a box ) The carbs have been rebuilt, the diaphragms are all good an the intake adapters are new, I have had my Carbtune on it and all checks out fine, the mixture screws are set at 13/4 out from seat + or - a little, the air boxes are sealed, I can't think of anything else except. HELP PLEASE .
  22. If its got wheels the wife and I watch it. We can have two duel DVRs recording at once (4 races) and be VHS taping a 5th race while watching a 6th race live, we have done that a couple of times. In order of preference? Nascar, Indycars, F1, Winged Sprints, Motocross, ATVs, Off Road, If its got wheels we'll watch it instead of regular TV. Danaca or Weldon for Indy, Casey Kane or Juan Pablo Montoya for the 600, Lewis Hamilton or Felipe Massa for Monaco. .
