getting called baby killer and stuff like that was a insult. but didnt the movie saving private ryan was based on ww2. after all they where fighting german soldiers in that movie if i recall? ryans brothers where all killed and he was to be sent home as the last surving son. latter on in real war time. as i recall there was something passed called the sullivan. law. in the military. all the sullivans died. something like seven of them and there was no remaing sons left for this poor family to carry on the name. so it was passed that if brothers where in combat and only one survived the military would try to get the remaining son back to the family with a honorable discharge. now i am a army vet served almost 15 years. and i have great pride in what our military. does. i see a young man come home i shake his hand and say thank you.

its up and running. it got into the mid 50,s here today. so we fired it up and he got the carbs sync. took it out for a good ride. i follwed in the cager. due to knee problem. he drove it about 100 miles. not a hic cup out of it. he did say that. it wants to wander some mostly due to mismatched tires. they got lots of tread but 8 years sitting? ones a yoko something and other is asomething starting with looks like a c? its in the back.. so being me knee brace and all i just could not resist. and took off on it. rode it down the highway. got it up to 65mph. and thought hey nice run around bike. shaft drive. shifts smooth. but a little soft on the rear. my ex neighbor was around 140 pounds. im 240? hmm? all in all this is going to be a fun bike. now time to save up and do the venture.. i got some good info on some shops close by for the venture. but what i can do my self i will. like the plugs. stuff like that. i just cant bend down much now. knee wont let me. so im sitting with rotors all of them that needs to be put on.. new brake pads., and tires. to be installed. on the venture. and maybe a carb cleaning and sync. just looking to see what this will cost me. in the spring time?

my friend cleaned it up. pulled the petcock like everyone here said to do. checked the screen. and gaskets. a little rusty. not bad? had the tank done cleaned and creamed. cost $60 bucks he works at a kawasaki place. mechanic there. thought that was a good price? we got new plugs $15 new battery $40 . keep in mind we just want to get it running it need tires too but its winter. and cold as heck in the gargage. tonight he went over to bro-inlaws reinstalled every thing. put in fresh gas. hit the starter. it cranked over. about 4 times he said and fired right up. but throttle response is off some? at arond 2000 rpms he said it flogs? hes going over this weekend with a mercury manometer. and doing a carb sync. he said james that bike is going to be a sweet ride:dancefool: and maybe just you and sis that my girlfriend his sister just might want to ride this scoot and go over the venture slowly? man you just dont get friends and bargains like that any more except from this site.

update found out the tank is dry. no gas in there but has that funny varnish smell. a friend pulled the carbs off took them over to his house, called and said there dry. but. looks like a good rebuild might be in order. we then looked inside the throw over jc whitney saddle bags that came with the bike. and got another suprise. there in a small plastic bag from a yamaha shop. where what looks like carb kits? in the bag are needles. gaskets and stuff. i called the neighbor and he said he was going to do the carbs about 4 years ago. and did buy some carb stuff wasent sure where he put them. but is glad i found them. also a locking chain in there. extra fuses. complete tool kit. gee its looking like xmas. ok now dumb question whats that pri. on the petcock. im thinking you got to prime the carbs? and how the heck do you get the seat off? my friend is going to work on it for me as my girlfriend is his sister. but he said he just cant handle doing the work on the venture. i think this is going to be a fun project.

hello every one. does any one know anything about these bikes. my next door neighbor is moving to AZ luck sob. well he has 4 bikes and said to me. i just cant take them all. then said theres a old yamaha maxim. 750cc. that i just dont want to take. it has 22.000 miles on it. has not been run in over 8 years. he made me a offer i could not refuse. he said its yours!! just go down to the dmv with me today. pay the transfer. and get new plates. i said damn its a deal. i got a fair looking bike for around $135.00 its now sitting next to my venture. ok seeing as it hasent been running for 8 years when my knee heals. im going to work on this bike as a possible bike for the girlfriend. its a low seat bike. . and shes short. i opened the gas cap and phewwwwwww. the varnish smell knocked me over LOL. i am not going to atempt to start this bike. with out draining the tank. the carb bowls. the fuel filter and maybe the petcock? and theres some rust around the inside of the tank. maybe cream it? all in all it looks like a good starter bike for her. shes going to take the motorcycle safety course. she does know how to operate dirt bikes so i think she will do just fine.

i went out bought new plugs. and while i was at it . i thought about checking the air filter before heading out to the parts store. air filter is nice and clean. but i noticed what looks like a tube running down next to it? i put a flash light on it and it looks like there might ne somw kind of weather checking. hmmm is it a vaccum thing? also after my knee is done. i wsill go out and put around on it. fixing things. from waht i see about this bike its verry nice to ride. you feel like your ridding in this bike not on it. now i have to confess and when i become a full member. i will have to do a donate thing. im only 5 ft 8 big gut old goat. well i went to mount the bike. bet ya all can see this comming LOL i went to place my right leg over the seat and i have to slide it accross. well being that i have a hard time doing this i kicked the back rest. and well the bike went to the right. and i went on my arse to the left. let me tell ya a 800 pound bike on its crash bar . looked like i was going to have a hell of a time getting her up. but then the old training kicked in. place kick stand down. go on the side the bike is down. place your left hand on handle bar. grab a good spot with right hand towards back of bike. place my wide butt. into the seat. and rock the bike back up. up she came. not a scratch on the bike . the cruse foot pegs on the crash bar took the brunt of the tip. i want to bring this bike back. paint is bad. faded and was told its spider webbed in the fairing. no major cracks. every thing is still solid mounted. dont know if the bike can be painted/ due to the spider things in the fairing. its a tri color? maroon, brown. and goldish. was this common on the 84?. and once again a wonder full site. as for a good mechanic. yes there is a yamaha shop about 15 miles away. but they wont work on any bike over 15 years old/ kinda odd?? i live in peru illinois. bike is now stored in a little town called oglesby. illinois. when i recover from the knee i will work on it in the spring.. -

not sure waht the problem could be? i bought this bike over 2 years ago. it sat for a year. but was started twice a month? i bought it rather dirt cheap. i think. $1200. since then i installed new windshield, brakes and rotors, new dunlop tires, and put seafoam in the tank and down the carbs, ok now here is the problem. after the seafoam treatment and somoked like hell LOL i let it sit for 2 days and continued to fire it there after. due to a severe knne injury i could not ride it:95: well today i had to move it to my brother inlaws gargae. it sat out side for 2 weeks under a very nice custom cover. i started the bike it would just die and not idle well. i let the choke on about 1/2 way and she ran ok. i then let the choke off it would idle for about 2 minutes and then just chug on down to about 700 rpms. then start to back fire . i would crack the throttle and it would hesitate but then rev up ok. i then took off for the 25 mile ride. to the brother inlaws house. knee brace on. and all. the bike just would not get past 55 mph???? in top gear it would act like there just was no more power to give?? being that its going on good old winter time. and being in bad shape. i dont have time to dig into it. but would love suggestions on whats going on. total knee replacement on friday the 13 th . so time to work on the bike will have to come slowly. unless i find a good shop around here. there is a harley shop here that worked on it once but that shop kept putting my bike back in the shop and took 3 weeks for a tire change and brake job. can you say they didnt give a **** about me just when i went in there and complained enough they finished it and then had the never to say they didnt want my kind of customer around there shop. now i have to find some good old boy or shop willing to help a old goat get this old bike up and running. it has 77.000 miles and in my honest opion wasent taken good care of after the person i got it from went total harley. no offense to harley owners. but i grew up where no matter what ya rode. if ya see a 2 wheeler broke down along side the road you stopped to give help. and yes i also own what harley owners call the girrlie bike a 883 huger.. well enough will any one help a old goat:innocent-emoticon: -
