  1. One thing you can say about this flood is that people are still here to help. Unfortunately, this gentleman lost his life trying to get to a stranded stranger. https://www.foxnews.com/weather/nebraska-farmer-died-driving-tractor-to-rescue-stranger-in-dangerous-floods-in-area I still think he's the only loss of life because of this so far, but places along the niobrara river and the missouri are getting pounded again like they did in 2011.
  2. Wow those are in great shape! I went ahead and ordered a cheap ebay set for about 30 bucks including shipping but yours are in better shape to be honest! I'm kind of on a time frame cuz she's my only bike. I'm sorry for not getting ahold of you when I ordered them:doh:
  3. Good luck with everything!
  4. Ordered these heated grips. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AWRCJO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I like them because I can slip them under my comfy foam grips. It says it only has a 3 amp draw so I think I'm going to wire it into the accessory plug that hangs off to the left by the seat. I'll also get a solenoid so I cant leave it on while the bike is off. I'll probably wire the solenoid into the headlight. I'll put a little review up after I get them installed if anyone is interested
  5. It was an inland hurricane they said. There are some areas around here that have just been ravaged by the flooding, but that wind can be something else. I've seen tons of pictures of tipped semis on the news. It's just nuts
  6. Well I was going to do the valve adjustment while I had the one valve cover off replacing the seal but I think I'll skip it then. You're lucky to have such a meticulously kept tweeks! Even if she'll never see a valve adjustment again! Also, I know you ride your ventures just as hard (harder probably) as I do. If anyone can attest to not needing an adjustment its gotta be you. I'm at 54000 miles now, we'll see if I can squeeze another 150k out!
  7. I'm surprised they put all that extra wiring in there for the TCI anyways. No wonder there's a huge draw, but it must be designed to work on the lower voltage? Can I ask what you mean bu TCI Mounting boss?
  8. Thanks MiCarl! Glad I don't have to pull them out!
  9. You've never done the valve adjustment?
  10. Hey guys, got this funny hole in my air box... not supposed to be there right?? Also I couldn't help turning the tubes that hook the box to the car and it looks like they've got some silicone in there to help them seal? Should I get some black RTV, pull the tubes out and then silicone them when I put them back in? Luckily none of them are cracked or anything and I'd prefer not to pull them out if I can help it... What do you guys think?
  11. Running 75 on the speedo i get about 34 to 35. We pushed a steady head wind one time and I got 30.8. If i run 60mph on the speedo I get closer to 40 or 41
  12. A little online research found that they're pretty cheap! If you got a set layin around let me know and thank ya! Otherwise I'll just hit the ebay route
  13. Well we got an inland hurricane that turned our 10" of ice and snow into water. On top of that we've gotten a couple inches of rain and its been so cold that the ground is still frozen. Theres a dam about 100 miles west of us on the Niobrara called the Spencer Dam that burst from all the water and Ice and the bridge on highway 281 has been swept away. Rode that road many times on the way to the black hills. Its one of my favorite bridges that I can think of. Its gonna be crazy to see everything the next time I go up there. We almost had catastrophic flooding here in wayne, but luckily our creek didn't over flow. My mom and dad had flooding up to their house but I think they're dry. They've evacuated most of their town of Randolph, and a third of Norfolk has been evacuated https://weather.com/news/news/2019-03-14-flooding-severe-tornadoes-nebraska-iowa-texas https://www.facebook.com/charles.umberger.338/posts/569085930266699?notif_id=1552581548797373&notif_t=feedback_reaction_generic
  14. Oh No issue of yours Brother Puc. I mean we all know you've got issues , but I wasn't talking about any issue of yours! No I have hard time getting my point across. I'll use an example for what I was trying to say. Say one of the new members(or old members for that matter) puts a post up saying. "Hey whats this sensor by my TCI?" The conversation boils down to what the sensor is and how various people would test it. Then I, I mean the person in the example, go out to the garage and test it, see its working fine and continue on with my life, never to think of that sensor again. Meanwhile everyone on the site is just ON THE EDGE OF THEIR SEATS (sarcasm) to hear about how they tested it and if it worked okay, and people who are working on the same thing would like to test it as well. They go to that post and read to the bottom and see that the topic was never finished. They ask themselves "Did he test it? How did he test it? What did his read? Is there anything I'm missing??" If the original poster of the thread posted a final post saying how they finished that project and how it all went down, it would put that reader at ease knowing someone else has done it successfully. I hope that made sense. I really regret not taking creative writing classes in school. My brain is absolute mush anymore lol
  15. Hey Yall! Tore the headers off the bike to replace the starter and the thermostat housing. The starter was fine until I tried to change battery cables and I broke the stud clean off the old one. Ordered a new one off ebay for 37 bucks that came off an 06 RSV with about 30k miles. The thermostat housing had cracks in it, and when me and dad were in Colorado last year would just puke coolant when we started it 2 of those high altitude low tempurature mornings. Anyways, I pulled the curb side header off and its dented up pretty good on the underside. I was reading online that dents dont effect flow as much as bends do, but these are pretty significant. Should I replace it or do yall think its good? Also I think I'm gonna spray some high temp black on them before I put them back on
  16. I have been on here probably going on about 10 years now, and I often find myself lurking instead of posting. Hell many time's i'll start writing a response out on my phone, and get frustrated or distracted and then not go back and finish what I'm saying! I'm probably partially to blame for the site slowing down. Well me and people like me Great Post for the new comers Puc, this place is the only MC Club that I'm part of and it truly feels like family! One thing maybe to add to the list is, If you think about, write a follow up to the thread when you've finished your project so other people know how you fixed your issue:2cents:
  17. I'd love to come to one of there's Meet and Eats but i work fridays, Saturdays, and sundays
  18. Hey guys. Installing the Stator, R&R, and new Starter Clutch ASAP but I have to gather up some tools first. I think I'll need: Harmonic Balancer Puller (which I'll rent from O Reilleys) Metric Allen Socket Set 3/8 Drive Torque Wrench Philips head Screw Driver Black RTV Silicone Crank Case Cover Gasket and Middle Gear Cover Gasket Loctite Anything else?? I've never done a stator before so this could be interesting:snow:
  19. @luvmy40 that is great advice, but I've got the battery and everything out at the moment. Cleaning stuff up and wiring up the new fuse box. I couldn't get it off because the screws were froze on but managed to with a friend test the sensor on the bike and everything checked out there. The TCI spades definitely looked dry, but not corroded. Ill pick up a file and clean it out and spray a little lithium in the plugs before putting it all back together.
  20. That is a very well taken care of bike. I've seen plenty MK2's with the darker blue paint scheme but that's the first one with that light blue scheme and like you said... wayyyyy purty!
  21. Although i have to say the rarest color I've seen on the 83s is this blue. I'd love to find a blue one like this https://www.google.com/search?q=1983+yamaha+venture&client=ms-android-americamovil-us&source=android-browser&prmd=sivn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjzuIHJ1fLgAhVh54MKHdJDCvYQ_AUoAnoECAoQAg&biw=360&bih=512#imgrc=3FnrpBg
  22. Yessir both of my 83s were blondies
  23. I don't believe the 83s had the CB standard. I had an 83 standard and an 83 royale. The royale had the CLASS and a radio, but i don't think they did CBs from the factory until 84 or 85. I would have needed a whole new harness to put a cb in my 83 royale
  24. Gotcha! Think I'll take some brake cleaner and take the airbox off. So i can get to everything a little easier
