  1. Is it as bad as it looks like it'll be? What are some things i should look for? How many hours worth of work am i looking at? I'm going to switch to one that has a CB. This will probably be a doozy of a project, but ill start on it after i get my carbs redone and back on the bike
  2. Thats what im doing with my 2 first gens. Both have been neglected but im going to rebuild the one as close as a i can to its original glory days (Both bikes are blonde 83's one with 28k and the other with 68k, the one with less miles is going to be my pretty original rebuild), but the other one is going to get the vmax cams carbs etc get a crazy paint job, All sorts of lights, a 12 inch sub woofer in the back bag, a V-Max rear end, and who knows what else. I agree that both bikes should be kept running an on the road, because you really dont see enough of these today. You'll see plenty of 11 and 1200 gold wings, but hardly no ventures
  3. That is my ultimate plan with my venture with 68K but i also want a stock one that is a generally good bike, just for touring, the other one will be my hot rod. Ill see what i can i can dig up for V-Max carbs Thank you!!! I really appreciate all the help!
  4. Thank you very much
  5. So the intake manifold wont fit on the venture?
  6. Is it possible that the frame has cracked on this 84? I know its known on the 83s but it could be possible on any bike right?
  7. Give it a day to dry up a little bit, that might change alot for yah. Remember the KISS rule. Keep It Simple Stupid
  8. I have an 83 1200 and i need the complete carb rebuild kit. I'm looking for a cheap one, and hopefully someone can help. Any info would be much appreciated Thanks -CJ
  9. Im going to have the carb off my bike maybe tomorrow, so i was wondering if instead of rebuilding it and not being able to ride it for a few days, if i could buy a vmax carb. Would it be possible to give it more power this way? Or will it just flood out the engine?
  10. I'd like to know more of what you mean by jumepering. Do you mean have the lights on hand already, and then hard wire the brake and headlights directly to it???
  11. Ok thank you very much! I'll pm you that right now.
  12. I guess my next question would be how to clean the carbs. the guy i bought it from told me the high flow jets are plugged cuz if you give it any throttle at all it kills it immediately. The top of the carbs are all gummed up too so i think i need to make a fairly thorough cleaning of em.
  13. I thought i could pull them out at the same time, and this pretty much clears everything up! thanks!!!!
  14. I'm in the middle of trying to remove my carburetors. Its kind of tough getting the carbs off of the bike. I've got the owners manual and it really isnt much help. i figure one your threads can help, maybe with picture. anyone with any insight would be much appreciated!
  15. I went to mexico with my mom and dad. We had a great time, and they actually preferred american cash. One guy actually tried to scam us saying 20 pesos is worth 20 dollars. Of course i was 12 at the time, so that would have been in 2006. And i know that times are-a changin When we were down there they said cops in one town would extort tourists for money, so be careful where you go and what you do Be safe and have fun!
  16. I understand, im the same exact way.
  17. My 85 would hold air for a little while, but if they hold long enough to enjoy your ride why worry?
  18. So do the 1st gens have this problem?
  19. I want to remove the carb from my 83 because the jets are plugged. I cant get the lines loose on it because its cold out, and i dont want to ruin any of the rubber hoses. Whats a good way to get the hoses off without tearing them? I was thinking about some penetrating oil, WD 40, or a hair drier. What are some suggestions that you guys have that could possibly help me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!! -CJ
  20. Looking for a MKII starter motor as i believe they have 4 brushes instead of the stock two in 83. thank you very much -CJ
  21. I'm definately doing this on my 83, Did you screw in the screw from the inside so you can put a nut on it on the other side to connect or disconnect the ground wire?
  22. Well I'll just bring my stuff over to your garage!!!!
  23. Work on the bikes, and swap starters in the cold. Or sit around eat and watch tv all night long?
  24. So if i have a cb on my 83, then its definately an aftermarket?
