Its always sad to see you guys go!

Oh yeah, I could definitely do Colorado again. and again. and again. and again lol Are the first two weeks in July going to be too hot to do the Grand Canyon? See @WRIDR and me are thinking the same page. North is going to be a bad direction this year, unless they get some crazy heat within the next month. You guys know what they say though, the best laid plans are the ones destined to fail! @Steven_G and @RDawson . I'm probably going to do like you guys do. Check the weather, grab the Michelin Road map and hit the road! When I went to California I only had nine days, so If I were to get caught In weather on that trip I would have had to have just sucked it up. However, since I've got 18 days, I might just ride around the weather and see where the road takes me. We just came back from a cager camping trip in Eminence, Missouri and really I could ride those nicely paved county roads every day. Really beautiful country out there. @slowrollwv whats the traffic situation out that way? When I picture going east I picture tons and tons of people and its kind of a turn off for me! I'd love to get to Vogel but that's a month late

In Nebraska you need a helmet, and my folks always had to wear their's in the slingshot. Maybe they just didn't give a rats behind lol

One thing I noticed when riding through the black hills is that they collect a bunch of the fallen debris from the trees and then put them in huge piles throughout the forest. Sort of like in this page here https://www.kotatv.com/content/news/Burn-permits-open-in-the-Black-Hills--407349905.html That's all fine and dandy, but the week I was out there they just stayed put. No one was burning them, they just sat there. Hell even the shape of them seems to be designed to START forest fires and not prevent them.

Hey guys, planning that trip on July 1st through the 18th up through yellowstone and into glacier. Being that its been such a cool, wet year, I'm starting to doubt that its going to be the friendliest motorcycling territory that early in the year. I've been thinking about quitting my job next summer and riding north into the Canadian Rockies and spend some months riding up there. That leaves me a few decisions for this year. I could go through yellowstone and continue to shoot west and get into Washington, Oregon, and hit the west coast. OR I could head south I havent seen the Grand Canyon yet and the only desert I've ridden through is I-80 and Highway 50 through Nevada. Of course I could always go east or southeast. Head into the Ozarks and maybe even get the tail of the dragon involved. So I guess I'm asking for some advice. Where the heck should I go?!?!

I learned how to balance tires from @cowpuc s videos after attempting dynabeads with poor results. Now that i balanced my tires myself i have no road vibration at all

Considering trading my '83 in on an '89 Pros and Cons?

Right with ya there about runnin them in each gear at the same time just to see what the difference truly is! But youve really got me craving those South Dakota prairies! The 26th can't come soon enough. Its real easy to change the back wheel with the bags on. Put the bike on the center stand and use a ratchet strap to fasten it forward to the crash bar. Make sure youre on fairly solid ground. Remove front brake calipers and front axle nut. This next part helps to have someone slide something under the motor when you remove the axle bolt and wheel but if youre quick you can do it by yourself by holding it up with your shoulder. Then very gently set the bike on the front forks, preferably with something soft in between them, remove the left muffler and viola! Easy peasy everything is right there way up in the air to work with! -

My clutch lever was actually wore out. The little ball in it was very visibly worn. I think I have a picture -
With the bike running check the voltage drop from the 5 wire (4 wire plug on some bikes) to the battery. There are 2 black and to red wires and probably one brown wire coming out of this plug. Set your multimeter to the 20V DC setting and insert one probe into the plug on one of the red wires. Then put the other probe on the positive lead to the battery. If you've got anything like .5 v showing up then you're losing a half a volt in just that one wire. Repeat this process with the other red wire, and then do the same with the black wire, but to the ground post instead. Same thing, you're looking for a voltage drop. I would say like .1 to .2 volts is acceptable. This will at least eliminate the harness and connections to the battery being the problem. I would definitely do this before buying a regulator.

That is a neat looking critter! I bet he musta been lovin the warm road. Nice to see you had the MK2 out! I've been thinking about trying to relocate to AZ so I could ride all year. Take care bud!

Oh and @cowpuc. I would LOVE to run the 83 and 88 balls to the wall, side by side for awhile! -

You'd be surprised at how easy changing the rear tire on a MK2 is. Don't need to remove the bags or anything. I was gonna tell ya LUV that the pictures on the CL post are 2 different bikes. Notice the paint scheme is different. IMHO I think you're going to love the Radio, and especially the Cruise Control. I think the seats on the MK1s are more comfortable, but I've put tons of miles on the stock seat on my MK2. Its nice to have basically the same motor as the RSV so you know there will be parts for years to come. Really, really look the bike over, but I tell ya what I certainly don't miss my 83 Standard with nothing on it. I'd take my 88 Royale any day of the week. (PS We'd have twin bikes. Same color!) -
Thats great! I cant get over the windshield bag stuffed full of carrots!

Anybody else get any 2 on 1 action today????

Hit the old 88 Venture with the wide open throttle a few times, climbed some hills and pushed a heavy wind.... Still got 40.1 mpg -

Took a lady friend for a ride Tuesday down into the Loess Hills in Iowa. Put about 200 miles on and ate at the japanese steak and sushi house! Had a great ride. My dad and I are each taking one of my late brother's sons on a 3 day motorcycle camping trip the 26th through 30th this month as well. Getting real excited to get them boys out of the house! -
Alright thanks for the replies guys. Heres a couple of pics where it was mounted. I don't understand why the pics flipped like that.... but you can see where I had it mounted was not a good spot. I tried to use one of the original mounting holes from the original RR but I'm not on the frame very well and I'm pushed right up against the exhaust. With the Stator checking out and the wiring harnesses checking out, I'm pretty much to the point where its gotta be this voltage regulator. I work 12 hour days on the weekends but Monday I'm gonna move It over and test ride it, but unfortunately its only gonna be 50 Monday

Ive been getting conflicting answers as to if the regulator needs to mounted to the frame or not. What I'm reading says the ground comes from the two black wires. I'm not running anything much extra off the electrical system except my new grip warmers occasionally and i do suspect heat will be higher from an HO Stator. I'm kind of grasping at straws here now though. The stator checks out fine. The regulator acts fine when its cold. Drops to around 13.5-13.8 at idle and only goes up to 14.5 when revved. I'm getting no significant voltage loss to the battery but when i would take it out and ride it after a few miles you could watch the voltage gauge slowly drop from 14.5 to around 13. It would go to about 12.9 at idle and slowly crawl up to 13.8 ish when revved. So really i have no clue what could be causing this And thursday was the first day it happened. It was about 90, so a good 10 degrees warmer than it had been every other time I've taken it out and I've put about 600 miles on with the new equipment with rock solid voltage until Thursday
-
Alright i think i figured it out. Where i had the regulator mounted it was sitting right up against the muffler. I thought it was a good spot but didn't realize the muffler goes there:bang head: So I'm gonna go ahead and assume that's the problem. Do you guys think this regulator is trustworthy now that its been over heated like that?
-
Ok this is where I'm at now. I checked AC voltage across the three stator wires in every combination and was getting 11.8 to 11.9 on all three wires over and over. I checked the resistance and had .3 ohm on each wire combo, and am not grounding through the wires as far as i can tell. I hardwired the stator to the R&R but wired in the plug for where the two positives and negatives connect to the bike. That plug and the wire around it gets pretty hot so I'm going to eliminate that plug tonight after work and see if that makes a noticeable difference in temp. Also i thought i had gotten Ricks Stator AND RR up grade but the regulator is this one from Boss Bearing. I believe the actual regulator is an Arrowhead. I'm thinking of buying Ricks RR now and I'm wondering if this regulator is worth a crap
