Tried that and TOTALLY stripped a screw. Finally figured out to throw a vice grip on it and pop it off with a screw. I'm just trying to do it one piece at a time I'm terrible with this stuff:bang head:

Trying to clean the carbs but I'm stuck on step number one. It says remove the choke knob. Now I've tried twisting it off and pulling it off but I really didn't have any luck with it. Tried taking a short cut but i would really like to follow the book. Sooooo. Does anyone know how to get that knob off of there?

Is This the Right part
Chaharly replied to Chaharly's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You're right the two on the right side. Think I'm going to replace all four of both. I'm only replacing them because they are cracked all the way tthrough -
Hey guys! I need to replace my carb intake manifolds because they are cracked. I believe i have found the part, but im stupid with part numbers and all of that, so is this correct? 4XY-13586-01-00 YAMAHA JOINT, CARBURETOR 1

Hey guys! Getting ready to do the valve job and carb clean and I see I've got cracks in my intakes. I know they don't leak and aren't known for failing but I'm thinking about putting some of that spray on rubber sealant just for good measure. You guys think this will be an effective fix or will I just be wasting my time/money?

A typewriter is one of those computers where the keyboard and the screen are separate right?! Didn't realize we had members from the stone age!!! -
Petroleum Based Solvents?
Chaharly replied to Chaharly's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The book says not to soak them in a caustic carb cleaner. I assume that's why they say petroleum solvent -
It's definitely a different bike than the V Twins. I dont know anything about the Vulcan though so I'm no help

Petroleum Based Solvents?

Ahh looks like a big list with a big chance for "boom"!!! I'm looking for something to clean the carbs and the book says to use a petroleum solvent. I haven't had the chance to look at any carb dips yet -
Petroleum Based Solvents?

I did a quick search but didn't have alot of luck. Getting ready to tear into the carbs but I think I'll just soak em with gasoline -
Can somebody give me an example of what these are? Gasoline is considered one right?

A Few maintenance questions.

Also what is the part number for the spark plugs -
Hey guys! Just wanted to give a shout out to sky doc for loaning me his shim kit and for the clutch upgrade. I'm about to tear into this thing to do the dreaded valve job and I've decided to adjust the float level in my carbs and shim the needles. While I've got the carbs off I'd like to do a cleaning and replace all the vacuum hoses. My question is, since I haven't really found any great info on cleaning the carbs perhaps someone here has done this abd can give me some tips. Do any of you guys know the size of the vacuum and fuel hoses . Also does anyone know how to lube the throttle cables because I need to get that done. Thanks in advance guys! -CJ

Sounds like a fair amount of work. I'll have to do it after I get the valves adjusted

I made my links for less than 2 dollars. Really simple to do.

Put on my nexon last night. Good looking tire!

I'll definitely give everyone my two cents on the dark side riding. I put the leveling links on too so she's gonna feel like a totally different ride. Dad and his biker buddies sure don't like the idea of dark side riding

You could totally whip me up a "Freebird Centerstand Bracket":whistling:

Well I finally went ahead and repacked the swing arm bearings. Still had lots of grease. While i was under her I made up a set of those leveling links and installed those too. I feel really confident about getting it all back together. However, the needle bearings where the bolt for the leveling links go didnt get cleaned really well. I just kind of ran my fingers through it and pushed out as much old crappy grease as I could and packed as much of the pink stuff in as i could. I think it'd be fine that way. Really an easy job, and I dont think I'll ever even think about swing arm bearings again until 100k miles. Really they move so little and such a small amount of grease is all you need anyways I dont think its worth the extra trouble. Did anybody fight that stupid U-joint when going back together. Could NOT make it stay up so we had my brother hold it up from the front with a magnet while i finally worked it in. You DEFINITELY know when its in too it'll tell you. And those STUPID "Y" pipes made me scuff the hell out of my reservoir cover too. Oh well. While i had the wheel off I finally went to the dark-side. I put on a 165/80R 15 Nexen and had to pump her up to about 90 til that bead set. My only question is how do i get that rear wheel pulled apart. I would love to swap out those bearings in there because they feel like they could definitely use it.

Alot of guys install a tach. There is a write up on the Read Only section of the 2nd gen tech talk. If you're trying to sync the carbs or set the idle I know that most shops have a little tool you just set on the motor and it can somehow figure out your R.P.M.s
