  1. Youre right puc You can see the slides without the air box on. Im going to work on it tonight. Starting by trying to clean and blow out that pilot jet. Ive been doing the feel test as you've described. I think I could get away with murder cuz I don't think I've got much for prints left . I'll start with the pilot jet and if still nothing off with the air box we go. Doing research on this site is helping me aLOT!!! When you really think about it there is only really so much that can cause a lack of idle. Either pilot jet, diaphragm slides, no fuel getting to that carb, no spark or low compression. So I'm gonna work my way through it slowly. I don't think I missed anything. I'll keep You updated Thanks again and shoot now I guess I owe You lunch LOL
  2. You are a much much more patient man than me
  3. It may be worth a try. I replaced all four intake boots but it IS Always still a possibility going to try to work my way down

  7. Hahaha I think I better get a prenup!
  8. Should be able to unplug a spark plug cap, insert a screw driver then with the screw driver in the spark plug cap position the screw driver about a quarter inch away from the block. Crank the engine and look for a spark. Or you can just grab the screwdriver and crank it and if she shocks You VIOLA!!! You have spark
  9. Swap
  10. Let's go half on it! You can have it every other weekend:missingtooth:
  11. Ok guys so this time i've actually got a few questions. The first one is. If you have a stuck slide (lets say its not out so its closed) the bike should be able to idle fine? I've been told that these bikes have an idle circuit and a throttle circuit. I do have a terrible memory though so i could be wrong. My problem is my bike isnt firing on the back left cylinder at idle. I dont know how to tell if its running under throttle though. The bike seems to have alot of power. so how do i tell if its running under throttle? I know i have good spark because if i spray WD-40 into the port the idle perks up quite a bit. Tried adusting the pilot screw but i dont think that did anything. And the carbs are freshly synced. Carbs are recently cleaned so I'm not UNWILLING to take them off just UNWANTING So where do I go from here. Any help will be really really appreciated!!! If you're within like 500 miles I'll even come and buy you lunch!!!!

  13. So do you think that the XS1100 owners are always giving first gen Venture riders crap for having the "tuned down machine" kind of like you dirty old first genners do to us Second Gens?
  14. Well you guys may have read a recent post from me gloating about my success with the carb rebuild. Well it turns out I missed something. I noticed it wasnt idleing quite as strongly as I thought it should so I got down and did a real close inspection. If you remove any of the vacuum caps on any of the cylinders the bike starts chugging and about dies, which is normal and is what I'm looking for. However on the back left cylinder (I think this is number one) when I remove the vacuum cap there is no change in RPMs so I did the usual of spraying some WD-40 into the hole thinking maybe I had no spark and VIOLA the engine perked way up and it started running like a dream. Since I cleaned the carbs I guess what I'm going to try first is to remove the pilot screw on that cylinder. Spray a little carb cleaner into and and then give it a shot of compressed air. Hopefully this will wake it up. If it does no good then I'll remove the Air Box and double check the slides to make sure they're operating fine. The bike seems to have plenty of power, even lots of low end and runs as smoothly down the highway as it used to. So hopefully I dont have to fully remove the carbs to fix this. Any suggestions?
  15. Good Job Freebird!
  16. That is BRILLIANT! When I relocate I'm gonna try this and see if it works.
  17. Hey DarkLeftArm, un related question. Is that your bird in your display picture?
  18. no...
  19. She sure is a peach! Never seen one fully dressed though. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that an XS1100? They had one at the stealership here for 3 grand... I didn't even make them an offer I will some day make it my own!

  25. Well as you may remember I recently added a post about the first ride of the year. I was seeing mom and dad off to texas for 9 days as we were loading up their goldwing I decided to take a ride and it definitely didnt help extinguish my riding fever! So here it is thursday and as promised I went home to work on the bike. Not like I had a choice though, I need to take mom's cat out every other day. So i got home and got to work. I approached my old, stripped, but never self concious Royal Star Venture with what I could only describe as a gut feeling for glory (or last nights burritos) I walked to her left side and pulled the choke and within a second she fired right up. She still doesnt want to run on the front left cylinder with the choke on, but really that doesnt concern me too much. I let her warm up As i made some final adjustments. Put the right front cowell on. Fastened the gas tank and the front seat on. After she warmed up and was purring on all fours I shut her off and did the final try on the back tire. Put the washer back where its supposed to go and threw the side bags back on. Man I gotta tell yah that I really missed seeing her with her bags. Definitely just doesnt look complete without the bags! I lowered my dads bike lift (he's spoiled I know) thew the new antanna on and straightened her out in the garage. I excitedly ran to her left side eager to plop my but on that old familiar seat but when I did, something just didnt feel right. I scratched my frazzled hair the frazzlyness of which can only be matched by my frazzled brain and wondered why it felt so weird. Clearly somebody was tampering with my bike, and then suddenly like a light bulb it came to me. Some fool raised the back end an inch higher off the ground and boy what a difference that inch can make. So once I came to terms of my new butt position. It was time to ride. This next part is for Puc because he wanted to hear my opinion of dark siding. One word for you Puc... Different! When i first got going I decided to kind of swirl around the road like i usually do and with the new leveling links along with the car tire. I had to learn to re-ride my bike. Kudos to whoever came up with this whole leveling link idea by the way. With the new tire, leveling links, and relubed suspension it almost rivals my 85 in handling now. I'd have to say the most different thing about it is sharp back and fourth cornering, but I also didnt get to play with my air pressures much. I'll probably wait until a 40 degree day to do that! As far as traction goes... Gobs and gobs of it, I even have proof! Notice that nice fat Tread mark on the back... Now notice the skinny one in front of that? Yeah even with the back tire broke loose the front still couldnt hold it still. Now thats traction! (probably also a good indicator that my bike is running stronly) What made me happiest of all though, is that when I installed my new to me OEM slip ons. It had a terrible backfire. Nearly as loud as a gun and would scare the crap out of me. I decided I didnt want to plug the AIS because to my understanding it works like a check engine light. If a cylinder dies she'll tell you with a LOUD bang. Took her on her first run. Rode it nice and rodded the piss out of her and not a single back fire. All cylinders run at idle, light throttle and full throttle. I even held it at about 4000 rpms in first gear to see if i could feel any cylinders die out while feathering the throttle and nothing. COULDNT BE HAPPIER!!!! So I'm nearing completion of my bike and i'm getting more and more excited for an amazing summer! When i get it done I need to put on about 200 miles and double check for any loose bolts!!!
