Anyone in the Green Bay Wisconsin area want to do me a payed favor?
Chaharly replied to Chaharly's topic in Watering Hole
Hey! I really appreciate it! No need to go out of your way but thank you! Just bring your parka! I'm curious to see if its 38000 miles or 138000 miles here's What venturous randy suggested in case you missed it. irst of all, if it is an 85, check the ser# and make sure it is above 1413 or you may be dealing with the famous 2nd gear problem and 38,000 miles is about when many start to have a problem. Anytime I look at a supposed low mileage bike, especially an MKI, the first thing I look at is the condition of the rotors. If there is a substantial lip near the edge, it usually means that you can add another 100,000 miles to the odometer. There are other tell-tell signs to go a long with this and rotors can be replaced, but it is a start. Randy -
Puc, red with what could only be a mixture of anger and frost bite, used his venture mounted snow blower ( a must for Michigan riders) to carve a path down to flyinfools evil lair where he...

I think you should throw them an offer on that white one puc! Shes got high mileage but I cant get over that white color on these ventures. You live on the other side of the lake don't you Puc? I'll gladly send you over the lake but only if you promis to pay that Fool a visit!!! Im not too intimidated by the second gear issue. My first 85 started having that problem and that's why I sold it (foolishly). I never thought of checking the rotors though! That's brilliant man!!! -

Went through a similar thing. I just wish I had something to point out as the fault to the accident. I have 2 broken wrist bones too but only one pin. Hit the ditch at about 50 and honestly couldn't have turned out any better. And slowroll it sounds like you got REALLY messed up! Did you hit something after it went over?

Good thinking! Still waiting for a check though. How long is this supposed to take

The back wheel only moves an inch or so either way. It wont turn anymore than that. I just assume thats the gear slack

Well I've been trying to post this as a whole story but its been fighting me for 3 days so I guess forget it. When we got there I was really impressed with the dealership. They had a couple of those slingshots sitting out front and I gotta tell you those are a SWEET ride! They took us to the back room and there she sat. From a distance she looked reall purdy until I got a little closer. It had the typical first gen cracks and problems. The side panels were both busted and hardly hanging on (expected) But it had ALOT of damage on the right side fairing piece. It looked like they dropped it there in the shop. So he said hed start it for me and when he turned the key over it gave an expected "nothing". So he said hed go grab a jump pack and hed be right back. I looked at the dash and immediately noticed a large hole where the cb is supposed to be... Great. The shop was so full of bikes that I had to have dad hold it up just so i could squeeze in to take a closer look. The left side looked alot better than the right until I got go the trunk. The trunk looked like it had been broken in to, the right side latch was wedged out and pop riveted together. Yeesh Opened thetrunk to a service manual,cb, and a spare set of speakers. He put the jump pack on it and turned the key. I heard the fuel pump come to life but the headlight wouldnt come on. He hit the starter and it turned over twice then nothing. He said hed grab another jump pack and we told him not to waste our time. We said we said we might offer him 1000 for it and he seemed like hed entertain the offer. Thought about it and decided no, there are plenty others out there. Itd make a great parts bike, but after my wreck, I'm just not in the mood to play master mechanic anymore. Ill keep my eyes peeled and find one in better shape.
