Well guys it was my favorite type of fix. A free one. I pulled the rear wheel off, pumpkin off and the drive shaft out of the pumpkin. Everything looked good. I wasn't too excited to try to inspect the ring gear and i read that if you don't torque the pumpkin to the shaft housing just right it can kind of bind up. I put it back on the housing, got the nuts snug then started the bike, put it in gear and let it spin while i tightened them up the rest of the way. Put it all back together and the growl is gone! Thank you guys!

Getting a real nasty slow speed rumble that's definitely coming from the pumpkin. I'm gonna start tearing the rear wheel off and hoping that its something simple... Might have to order a new one from Ebay

Id like to apologize to you by the way! We didn't get to the hills till about 4 and i was trying to make it to Gillette that night! I should have messaged ya. As far as the thumb in the eye, maybe i should stab him with a big stick

Hey guys! Having a blast out here. Camped north of sundance the first night and came over the bighorns which in my opinion are absolutely underrated. What a cool, cool ride! I got up to Medicine wheel and got chased west by some nasty weather so i didn't get to do Ten Sleep yet. I camped south of west Yellowstone and uploaded a video on youtube. Here's a link for my morning update

Getting This Tool Kit Together

Well Gentlemen, I think I've got my tools together. Thank you for the help, and sorry for the short Hiatus. Ended up helping a buddy synch his carbs on his shadow (waste of time, need the right fittings) monday, and yesterday I got caught up in a 3 hour job putting up a swing set for my buddy's kids! I've got the new brake pads on now, Gonna bleed the brakes and change the oil and the bike should be good to go! I'm not gonna cut my windscreen down until I get a spare. I end up with someone on the back probably 40% of the time. Some girlfriends, and some just girls that wanna be girlfriends so I'd like to be able to swap them out. As far as that PlastX goes, I'll be picking some of that up for the ride and I've got about 10 microfiber towels I'll be bringing along. @videoarizona that's a good idea to use those kitty litter bags. Wayyy tougher than plastic sacks! I think I'll pick some of those up as well and I need some sandwich bags for some other stuff as well so good call on that. After I get these fluids changed I'll load all the clothes in and I'll be set. Having a hard time sleeping now, I am getting the Jitters... BAD -

Hey either way I appreciate the effort! I get a little click happy too and more often than not I end up not posting "til next time" and then there isn't a next time because i plum forget! How small does that little stove pack down? I've never really considered cooking at the camp site? And as far as that beach side photo goes.... Well theres a well worn spot on the garage floor where the pacing has been non stop, and now I think its gotten a little more worn because of you brother! -

Good call on the zipties and the wire strippers! I'll bring along a 1/4-3/8 drive adapter as well! I've got a hand impact driver, but no adapter for it. I wonder if I can find just the adapter pieces at harbor freight or something. I think impact drivers are around the $40 dollar range. Good call on the clear fuel line. I certainly remember a certain "member" saying they had to pressureize the fuel tank via mouth power to get the bike home! I've always wanted to get a set of those speed wrenches. Now might be the time to do so! And I've got a pretty zazzy little torch I bought from the local Casey's, no LED light on it but I'm picking up a rechargeable headlamp tomorrow! Hands free lighting!!! The ratchet straps will be good for securing the things to the bike, and if I have to remove a rear tire then they'll be great for holding my center stand frontways and not letting the bike drop. I learned the lesson of bringing towels and not using paper a LONG time ago... the hard way lol Actually I'd like to buff my windshield before I go. Anyone have any experience with this? I was thinking just getting a buffing wheel for my dewaldt drill and some aluminum buffing compound and going to town As far as walking around pacing back and forth while checking things over and over on the bike, I guess I'll just have to keep packing and adding stuff in! I know I'll forget something! -
Nope didnt do anything different. Opened the picture in paint, went to resize and made sure the dementions were 1000 by 750. It'd let me upload multiple photos at once then!

That i am! So i probably shouldn't need anything right?! -
Getting ready to go on this trip... leaving in 10 days. Just trying to get the tools that I'll probably need, and the ones I hope I dont, but i MAY need. I've got tire plugs, an air pump, my bead breaker/tire irons, phillips and flat head screw drivers. The tool kit that came with the bike. A nice big channel locks. A few different sized vice grips, allen wrench sets (never too worried about allen sockets, If I need the length I'll just use a vice grip to turn the short side of the allen wrench) a 1/4 inch drive ratchet with 6mm through 15mm sockets I'll also bring a 3/8 drive ratchet with 12-maybe 21 imm sockets. I'll probably bring a small hammer too. Also have electrical tape and duct tape. I've also got the socket wrenches that came with the tool kit and I really think I've got about everything I need. I'm starting to get excited if you cant tell!

I would be interested, but one thing to remember. If you base the mold off your current fairings and plastics there is alot of warping and sagging that the plastic goes through. You may have a hard time mounting your new plastics on without stretching them -
Definitely sharp!

They're not as top heavy as many here think. As @cowpuc has said on his RSV test ride, they are actually quite a bit lighter in the front than our 1st gens. I like the royale stars, but I prefer standard controls and I like the leg guards. There's something to be said about being able to ride through a rain shower and not come out totally drenched.

My sentiments exactly about the water on the road. Even in the middle of the day it surprised me and i found myself grabbing a ton of brake! Typically as a rule i try not to ride at night but as you said, you get in that magic hour and something tells you to just keep pushing! When we had the major flooding come through that driving at night stuff caught a cager by surprise when he found himself in a few feet of rushing flood water. Unfortunately he didn't survive the ordeal. As far as the recording goes thanks for the advice! I'm leaving here on the first of the month so i think I'll get plenty of practice recording. Just be ready to get tired of seein my ugly mug!

Does anyone know how to increase top end speed?

I think this falls back on what you were saying about getting the testosterone flowing with them ARs and the grandsons. I think you can sum it all up in 4 words Boys Will be Boys! -
Took a ride from Wayne, NE to Madison to Burwell then to atkinson up to about 7 miles west of Oniell and blew a tire. Spent some time getting that fixed and rode home. 320 miles that day. It was a great day. I didnt realize how wet western nebraska was this year! Here are a few good pics and a short video from the ride on Nebraska Highway 11. Notice the windmill submerged in 2 feet of water still trying to pump more up!

I wonder if emissions was a big reason why yamaha went with a V-Twin. According to the owner of B and B cycles the V-Max's only get about 28 mpg. Now that being said I'm sure they could detune it for better economy, but maybe they could just never pull the fuel mileage that seems to be standard on tourers these days which, from what you guys are reporting are religiously in the high 40s to low 50s? I've told my dealer time and time again that if it have a V-4 in it I'd already be saving money, but he just seems to laugh me off. Although that Transcontinental has been sitting there since they were first shipped out. To be fair, they havent moved that goldwing that sits right beside it, but I know for a fact that they sold at least one of each.

Just gonna throw my 2 cents in here. 1 handed 5th gear roll on to 125 mph pushing a head wind. Hard to see, but if you up the video quality to 480p you can see it better
