Well guys I have my new rotor on express delivery and I should be leaving this Monday to see Colorado for the first time on the bike. Thinking of missing some work and making it like a 15 day ride. If that's the case I'll be doing some true CTFW-ing! Planning on bringing my goose hunting coat (waterproof AND super warm) Frogtog Rain pants, leather chaps and a couple of pairs of PJ's to wear under my jeans if necessary. As far as tools, bringing my metric wrench set, allen wrench set, 3/8th drive ratchet, possibly a reducer and some 1/4 drive stuff, voltmeter, and some wire. Other than that I plan on traveling real light with a @cowpuc special Meeenards tent, my wally world lawn chair, and my scientifically proven double wrapped with a trash bag sleeping bag. Any suggestions on where to go from Colorado do to some real site seeing. I'm about 8 hours from steam boat springs where I'm from in Norfolk, Ne, planning on staying 2 days or so in CO. Also any CTFW tips or ideas that you guys have for me will be greatly appreciated and taken into account, and don't worry guys... there WILL be pictures!!!

Hey guys, its been a long while since I've done any real sitting on this site and I just noticed that terrible news. I really hope he has a fast recovery, but I started this post just to say one thing. Remember to ride like its your first time (minus any accidental wheelies), take your time and remember that we're out on the road to listen to the radio see some sites, and have some of the best therapy known to man. Its crazy how fast you can lose a quarter of a year with even a minor injury. I feel super blessed to be as lucky as I was. Just remember guys keep the greasy side down! And god bless!

Hey guys just wanted to let everyone know that I'm back online and that I've been pretty busy since my last post. I've got most of my issues solved on my 88 and thanks to the rain I just now crossed over 2k miles since the accident. I'm really happy with how the bike rides, how it runs, how it looks, how it sounds and how unique I truly feel on it when I ride with my friends. (A black 1200 sportster and a black 750 shadow, cant really tell them apart ) I'm a big guy, and for what my friends say is a big bike, I truly do feel like this bike was MADE FOR ME!!! Anyways for memorial day Jon, Matt, and I headed out on the scoots towards Pilger, NE where we stopped and had a chat with some friends. His wife asked if I ride around pilger all the time and I told her yeah I go there pretty frequently since the tornado last year. She said she remembered my bike, but I don't think she does because I've only ridden there once on the 88, I went there a lot more on the 99 After that we headed north into Wayne and continued on toward Laurel. My friend stopped for gas (because that's the only town in the area with premium ((which I think is the biggest setback about most V-Twins))) and headed toward Randolph to meet with my dad who conveniently wasn't home. From there we rode into Osmond and stopped at Jon's Dad's house and had some super refreshing Ice Water. As we were riding through Osmond I noticed two old Lime Green dirt bikes sitting outside of a garage. Naturally I couldn't help but steer in that direction and take a nice long peek at the old bikes. I got past their house and pulled a U-ey and as I was headed back toward the bikes from the other way my attention was suddenly drawn to a nice, cool 83 Venture sitting in there garage. It was the maroonish one, the first one I've ever seen personally. I pulled up on my Venture, killed the engine and told them they had a hell of a sharp bike in their garage. We talked for a little while about our Ventures and about the two old dirt bikes. I don't remember what model they were, but they were both 1968 somethings that had consecutive vin numbers which I thought was cool. We finished our Memorial Day journey after that by taking the back road into Norfolk. We had clocked about 115 fun filled miles and generally had a great time. Plus who doesn't love seeing another Venture. And then yesterday driving through town in my pickup I noticed a 2 tone black MKII Venture riding through Norfolk two up. I tried to catch up to talk to them, but traffic didn't really allow. Either way I thought two 1st Gens in 2 days, maybe I'm not riding such a unique bike!

The blue is an 84 or an 83. I know for a fact that its a 1200 because of the bags. I remember me and @cowpuc were looking at a blue one like this that was supposed to have a buttload of miles. I don't remember, but maybe puc will. I do, however, think that its a pretty rare color, but my moneys on an 84

That's my dad 6 foot four 300 some pounds. Its a decent sized bike. And @cowpuc you know I don't mind!!!

Well I dont know why he did it, but he did He bought himself a 2003 Honda CB900F. A little crotch rocket if you will. He said I could take it for a spin but he told me no wheelies and DONT go over a hundred, so I threw on the full face helmet and away I went. Now I'm sure some of you have ridden rockets so this wont be surprising BUT it is a completely alien feel compared to the venture. You actually have to hold yourself up and its alot touchier. I've ridden 3 crotch rockets in my life now and this on is the biggest. I took a right off our street and headed up a U-shaped hill in my town that we creatively call "The Horn" and was enjoying the totally different ride. Right away I learned why you have to sit that crotch rockety way on a crotch rocket. Turns out on one of those if you're sitting straight up itll actually force not only you, but the whole center of gravity back on the bike and itll basically point her noise straight at the sun So i got it out on the highway and pulled over enough to get a mile or two between me and the next car, leaned on the gas tank and rolled on the throttle. You have to roll on the throttle on this one which is different in itself cuz itll just throw you if you open it up all the way in first! So i zipped through first, had a rough switch to second because the clutch is a little jumpy at 9k Rpms and got it up to third. I looked down with the thought of seeing maybe 95 or a 100 on that little speedo but I was amazed and shocked to see 125+ by the middle of third gear. I backed off the throttle and babied it into town with the realization that it is a GOOD THING I dont own one of these monsters. I'd just like to mention that 120 in 3rd out of 6 gears leaves how much for top end? Noone needs to ever go that fast!!!!

I think someone did some of their own wiring somewhere. It probably wont be an issue for you, but I personally like having it as close to factory as possible. Hopefully someone who knows more than I helps you get it figured out!

Does the sidestand warning light come on?

Ok, I removed all the bolts on my stator cover, pulled the shift linkages off and it wont budge. I've never done anything like a stator before and I dont want to break something. I whacked it with a soft faced hammer a few times but it seems stuck tight and I even removed the cover for that big bearing that's connected to the back wheel. Whatever its called lol! So now I have to wait for a gasket for that.... Oh well. So anyways how do I get that left side cover off? Any help would again be appreciated

Well since I got my new tire on and have been healthy enough to ride I just wanted to brag and say I've got more than 500 miles on already! Monday my brother, dad, and I all hopped on the bikes and rode to columbus to buy dad lunch for his birthday. We did a little riding around and then my brother and I decided to wash the bikes for the first time of the year. I rode around off and on by myself for the week and then friday my friends Jon and Matt rode our scoots up to sioux city. Jon left us at sioux city and matt and I continued north on I-29 for about 20 miles. Man the crosswinds on that road were something else. We had a steady 30mph wind that day and we went through one of the worst gusts of wind I've ever seen. It probably was worse. It actually picked up chunks CHUNKS of sod and pelted us with it. I'm glad I wasnt trying to do the 80mph speed limit because I would've more than likely had been pushed off the road. So after that we got off the interstate at the nearest exit and headed toward vermillion. We went through vermillion on headed home on Highway 12 and 15. We fought the wind for the rest of the day but all in all had a great ride. Yesterday I went out for a ride by myself and put about 100 miles on.

Just wanted to say that the I loved the wide windscreen I got for my RSV. I only got to test it once, but it was a plenty breezy day and I loved the extra protection!!!

Do you elevate it every night? I learned right away that elevation is SUPER important

Yeah I saw this on Yahoo. I wasnt surprised at all to see the Jap bikes at the top of the list for more reliable. The thing that surprises me is that most of the Jap bikes being sold are crotch rockets that spend their entire life being beaten. They must be pretty tough little bikes!

I agree with you there, if you're in a storm warning and you hear your drains start making that sucking sound you had better be in for a rough 15 minutes!
