  1. They certainly are different than the RSV but I love my VR. My buddies who all own Harley's and Shadows and sport bikes give me crap for having such a big old bike, but when I hop on they say it fits me perfectly. Especially when I leave them in the dust. That's the thing that bothers me though, if the tire would've blown or just went flat it would've made a lot of sense to me, but immediately after my wreck I kicked the back tire and found that it had quite a bit of air in it. Mom and dad have had a couple of GW tires blow while pulling trailers and they haven't had any problems. I don't know why I went down though
  2. Have you been fortunate enough to have to change your diaphragms?
  3. It would probably just blow the speakers right? I felt lije on my 99 those new polks I put on couldn't handle much more wattage
  4. Hey yall. My venture has been getting about 35-37 mpg consistently, but I KNOW I can do much better. I also know that I have holes in all of my diaphragms. I know with the vacuum leaks I really can't accurately set the carb tuning, so my question is. If I replace the carb diaphragms will I see a significant increase in mileage?
  5. I feel much the same way now. I know many, many people have had no problem running car tires, I just don't know what else could've caused my death wobble like that It is very personal Jakester, I feel like I lost a close personal friend. I did however, over the summer redeem myself. I bought my 88 and road it to California, now I'm just waiting for the snow to thaw so I can get the old girl out and get the wind in my hair again! Of course, that's only if @Flyinfool will let me
  6. I like it a lot! Very creative on your part!
  7. I dig it! Love the way the silver POPS on that girl!
  8. Well, we never did manage to figure out exactly what caused the crash. It could've been the new dog bones I installed, or possibly something on reassembly I put together wrong. But I couldn't find or feel any loose parts on the bike. The only thing that I could find was about a week or two after the crash I had my dad sit on the bike so I could give it a shake to find anything loose and I found that the only thing out of the ordinary was the tire on the back was low enough to almost be flat. That being said, my Darksiding days are over, I was happy with how the bike ran and performed with the tire on, but I'm assuming the day of the wreck my slow leak had probably only left 28lbs in the tire. Cornering, IMHO, isn't the problem with the car tires. I think what it is is really checking the tire pressure before and during every ride. The side wall is much softer than a bike tire, and I cant help but blame the accident on my low pressure. It was my first and only highway test run on that bike with the Darkside tire. So I don't think I'd recommend any car tire. The one that I used is the Nexen (second link down) but again, I'd bike the bullet and get the bike tire. Trying to save myself a few bucks cost me about $4800 (thank god for health insurance) and lets not forget the 5000 that was Venture. And even being down that much cash I still consider myself lucky because it could've been much much worse
  9. I think youll really enjoy the 1200
  10. Man! What a beautiful bike!
  11. Oooh, now if only I wasn't jobless and broke, I'd totally take advantage!
  12. And remember puc, with airplanes and computers both, if you don't get those switches in JUUUST the right order and position they will both end in the same way... CRASH!!!!
  13. Take your time on that restore gnester! Enjoy every step that you can, because I can guarantee you will LOVE the bike once your get her to your perfection! I bought an 88 in march, (however not my first Venture, I've owned two 83s an 85, a 92 for a short time ((dad gave it to me, but I ended up giving it back because it did more sitting than moving) and now my 88. It needed a little TLC but last summer I took it from Norfolk, NE to Ft. Bragg, CA without a single hitch. A bike older than I am and still leaving brand new Harleys in the dust! Welcome to the family brother, it'll be the best $12 you've ever spent! And we love hearing your questions, because remember, if you ask them, I don't have to!
  14. That's awefully considerate of you guys. Where are these supposed to happen?
  15. No more than an inch though. I heard the last time you sent an inch down towards Atlanta it nearly shut the whole city down!
  16. My brother decided he wanted subs in his car, so during installation he decided to take a break inside the house. About a minute after he walked in his 12 year old son comes running in screaming at the top of his longs "THE CAR IS ON FIRE! THE CAR IS ON FIRE!!!!" so we ran out there and sure enough the top of the battery was on fire and melting FAST. He reached his foot up and stomped the fire out (which I thought was the wrong thing to do) and upon further inspection, we found that the temporary wire he had running from the battery to the amp got pinched in the door and burned the wire all the way up from the door to the battery and set the car on fire. His dumb a$$ actually started the car and drove it home with a huge hole on the top... talk about dumb!
  17. Believe me, we have PLENTY! Besides I wouldn't want you wearing that Whitewasher out early this year! I can hear crunch crunch crunch behind me, and I turn to look and my dog is eating snow balls from his paws. He loves the snow (a collie) :173:but he seemed extremely concerned when he walked out there and it was touching his belly! Have a little mercy man!!! You know, Larry, I just cant seem to shake the feeling that this isn't the first time you've gloated to a snowed in feller about having 70 degree weather. Hey was it at least ride-able weather?!
  18. Well we got about 2 feet of the white stuff today. I don't even need to tag @cowpuc to point the blame here. Its no secret by now! Although, you have to love the typical 35mph Nebraska winds that kick up when fool fires up his White Washer. I even thought we were done with it, the old white stuff (now more brown and patchy) was all but a memory for us here in NE Nebraska. Not so much anymore!!! Its not too much of a loss however, I did manage to get some laundry done and hang up some drapes. Felt like a real adult today! And I know how you guys are about pictures, so don't worry, I've included a few! Look at my poor car! Its buried!!! Ya'll are even lucky enough to catch an avalanche as seen in my wonderfully directed video!
  19. With Honda coming out with the Sabre (?), their version of the chopper, and Yamaha coming out with the striker. People can get good, name brand choppers for a lot less money and get more of a bike with it. Its unfortunate seeing a small private owned company go out of business, but hey, that's capitalism!
  20. Congrats on retiring buddy! Dont worry about me I get jealous easily
  21. If you ain't working you ain't ridin'. Sorry dems the rules!
  22. Well I do know that I have a study clutch fluid leak coming from somewhere in the system. I had originally thought it was leaking from the master cylinder, but I replaced the seal for the cap and it leaking completely. Then after taking it to California I went to the hills with my buddy and totally lost my clutch right before we went into Rapid City. I was really concerned and baffled because the clutch reservoir was full. I pulled into the service station and asked the gentleman to borrow a screwdriver, but he wouldn't let me because he said If I screwed up my bike because of the tool he let me use, He'd be responsible and I could sue him for an accident. What a crock... so I told the gentleman in a pretty smart tone that I would just have to put my helmet on and ride into rapid city with no clutch... thanks for the help, pal.... So anyways we got to Wally World and I bought some wrenches and a screw driver, and tried to bleed the clutch. I couldn't get any fluid to come out of the bleed screw so I thought I really had a problem. I then unscrewed the cap and realized that it may have looked like I had full fluid, but with it sucking the fluid into the lines, it actually pulled that rubber boot down into the open spaces that the fluid used to take. So in essence, there was fluid totally covering the sight glass, but the rubber had filled the reservoir. So I went back in and bought some DOT 3 and filled it, bled it, and went home. So I know its leaking, and I had originally thought it was in the oil, but when I change the oil, it always looks clean and chemical free. The smoke and the smell seems to be coming up from the fake fuel tank and rising just in front of the seat. Its nasty smelling and doesn't smell like oil or antifreeze. Its also hard to tell if just the slave cylinder is leaking because it also leaks a little oil from that side cover gasket. I took care of all the antifreeze leaks and its sat all winter with not a drop of anti-freeze plus you can REALLY tell the difference in smell. So I guess I'm thinking definite slave cylinder. I suppose I should upgrade to steel lines while I'm at it huh?
  23. that 2003 gave you away
