Thanks guys! While I'm this far into the bike i aim to check third voltage while not running. The manual shows taking it out and jumpering it with a battery and testing the voltage out of the signal wire. According to my manual it should read 2 volts. I should be able to test it by slipping a pin through the plug on the sensor wire and be able to test it right on the bike right?

Hey guys, got the bike pulled down pretty far so I'd like to pull the plugs at the TCI and give em a good look over and a cleaning. Underneath I can see the TCI and the two plugs that go to it, but whats this thing beside it? I'd like to pull the plug on that too and clean it. Just curious It looks like it might be the MAP sensor?

I posted on here earlier about racing my dads GL1800 two up against my brother's 1500 one up with a guy about 30lbs less than me. We took off in fourth gear pretty close to side by side and for quite awhile the 1500 kept right up. As in literally side by side neck in neck. We went out later just the two of us with him on the 1500 and me on the 1800. We did it again and the outcome was really the same. IMHO the shortcoming of the 1500 goldwings is that they're geared really short in the first and 2nd gears. At the same speed in 4th gear the 1500 is higher up in the RPMS than the 1800, but I dont exactly remember how much. That being said. I ran my dads 1800 with my 88 Venture, however we werent close to eachother, but I believe that a first gen and an 1800 would be a really close race, but I can tell you that I'll lose to the new Wing, or at least the automatic, cuz I lit it up with a guy on a honda test run with about 8 other people and I was 2 up on the Venture. Everyone was in the Hills for sturgis and we were on the truck route that goes southwest around town from the interstate. It was the hill by the interesection for the walmart right there. I was in 3rd gear and maybe coulda threw it in 2nd to pull up the hill higher, but we were doing around 45 so I stayed in 3rd. He was on the automatic one and walked right away from us. Got stuck in traffic near him later and we chatted for a second. Cool guy!

Is your system leaking? Or slow to inflate? I found my leak was coming from the compressor. -

I pulled the trigger and ordered my NGK caps. Was hoping to find the 10k Ohm ones but I dont believe they have any in 12mm thread. You guys have been running the 5ks for years and havent had any troubles, so I think I'll trust these NGKs just fine! -

I wouldn't mind running a heavier duty electric heater, but I rent this apartment and I'm not sure if the land lord would be willing to let me wire something in. Off the the right side of the garage is how I get into my apartment so I've got a basement apartment/garage combo for 350 a month everything included! So now I've got all these options. Think they'll let me take them home and try em out for a day or two? lol

Well they're 40 bucks from Yamaha each. I think I'll try NGK plugs at 10k ohm -

After pulling and dissasembling one of the caps I found it to be a little over 12000 ohms. I pulled it apart and checked the resister itself and it was at 11900 ohms so i guess I'll be buying new. Thanks for the help guys! -
While I agree with Puc on getting a more macho, multi fuel one, we're looking at almost doubling the price. They cut overtime down so I'm scrapped for cash and its been hard finding a used one. The one thing that makes this heater look like it'll work for me is the size of my garage I guess I'm not sure how to rotate it but you get the point. Its got the garage door and a walk in door that you can see in the pic so ventilation shouldn't really be an issue. Notice my pit? lol Like I said its a small area but now I'm more confused than ever on what to buy

I gotta get stuff done to the bike before spring hits and with it being 15 degrees I dont think its going to be very fun tearing the starter clutch out of my bike! I've got a little 1 car (which probably couldn't fit my pickup) garage so I dont need much for heat and I see this on sale for 100 bucks delivered to my door. Should I pull the trigger? I'm proud to build Semi Trailers here in America, but i think we only build them here is because its not very cost effective to ship semi trailers overseas. Either way American Manufacturing seems to be a thing of the past, and these kids (and I call them kids but I'm only 25) come in and cant read a tape measure and dont know how to pop an air hose onto a drill! I almost wouldn't blame my company for uprooting and building them overseas!

Don't be too proud of me puc. I unfortunately had to learn the hard way about saving and buying. I remember when I wanted a guitar when I was 15 years old my dad brought me into the bank and set up a 500 dollar loan. Then I wanted a mustang, then college loans and then a bike so pretty much from then up until a couple months from now I've been in debt, although some of it is college debt. I had made a series of financial mistakes that took me into the point of a bankruptcy but since then Ive seen things really turned things around financially. I think I get what you mean by no one gets to be a cowboy forever. Some days I feel like I'll live forever, but I know you're right. I put away some money every week for retirement, so I hope when the time comes I can pick and choose my battles when it comes to what to keep and work on and what to buy. I cant wait to buy that Tenere 700 if its what I hope its gonna be. I'm gonna have to do some test rides on a few different models, but I'll buy it with $$$$$$$. To be honest though. I think what I need is an:grandma:. You're lucky you have Tippy and now she can "grab the bars" and I hope I can find that in a lady some day!

That looks great Saddlebum! So you're actually laying the fiberglass flush or even on top of the ABS after you've layered on some of the plastifix?

Okay I see what yer saying. If i were to use the fiberglass epoxy then it has the possibility of not flexing the same as the ABS but if its melded directly into the ABS it'll flex with it just fine. By the way, Jeff I got that Stator and R&R in. Looks great! Thanks bud!

Ive pretty much made the decision long ago to NEVER buy a new vehicle. I could make 100k a year and I would still drive late 90s pickups. I spent 1100 bucks on my silverado. Its got a 5.7 and 4x4. This truck has more power than I will ever need and it gets OK mileage for what it is. I couldn't even imagine what the equivalent of my truck would cost now-adays.

See the plastifix stuff is what I'm talking about. The only issue is that I'm not spending 30 bucks on powdered ABS and acetone no thanks! I've had good luck just layering on ABS pipe glue, which I'm pretty sure is just a dissolver and abs plastic. As far as using heat and donor ABS to "solder" the plastic, I've done it, but with mixed results. I end up getting the plastic too hot and make it weak or even warp the other side of the plastic with the heat! I've heard of using fiberglass to help add rigidity and strength, but I've also read that the fiberglass wont flex while the ABS around it will flex which could cause more cracking? Either way, I'm doing a 63 hour work week this week so I'm not gonna get super far on the old girl. I appreciate the advice as its always interesting to see what everyone else is using. A question when using the fiberglass. I would probably have to sand down a large area of paint to the bare plastic to get the fiberglass to stick. Some of the cracks are visible on the bike, and I'd like to save myself from doing a full repaint if at all possible

I work as a welder building Great Dane Trailers. Right now I weld together the rear frames, which are Stainless Steel. Its a pretty cushy job and they provide us with welding hoods with filtered compressed air. I honestly cant complain too much!

Well I got the trunk off the bike to work on the CLASS system and found a few cracks to fix while i had everything off. Ive done the acetone dissolving method as mentioned above, but I have a difficult time finding the right consistency of plasti-puddy. I've also heard of people using the MEKP solvent, but I don't think Bomgaars has it on hand. Either way, I have a tendency to have a porous plastic weld that, while its pretty strong, could be stronger. Ive seen a plastic repair kit online that has a solvent and a powder, which I can only assume is powdered abs. What they do is get the plastic that is getting fixed damp with their solvent and drizzle a fine dust on it. It dries quickly and molds right into the plastic. Then after a bit of drying dampen it up with the solvent and add more powder. I really cant see how this isn't ABS plastic and MEKP or even Acetone. The kit is 30 dollars and it seems they go through the powder pretty quick so that would get super expensive when I can just grind my own. I read on a forum about a guy grinding ABS pellets down with a coffee grinder and I really think that sounds like a chief idea! For now I dissolved up some plastic and have started putting it all back together, but I'll be grinding a few of the deeper ones down to make sure that there isn't too much porosity. Thanks for the help guys!
