Picked Up A Nail
Woody replied to N3FOL's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
okay my two cents on this one is some times a plug does more damage than the nail, now I understand the tire is being replaced with a new one and than without a doubt is the right thing to do. but just for the sake of discussion the way that nail was in there a patch on the inside would have been better than plugging it because when the hole was reamed out in order to insert the plug or plug part of the patch it would have been bigger and more importantly it would have broken some cords in the tire therefore making the tire unsafe. Happy and safe riding to you. -

I bet ya'll thought I was done with this. for the curious among us I had to find the failure. the pictures tell the story as you can see the 1st picture is the pump assembly together, 2nd picture is the pump separated from the motor, 3rd is the pump blade assembly separated from the plastic housing and last is the cracks that allowed the magnetic coupling to spread and lock up the pump. I tested the motor and it will run.

I Read HERE about Reducing TOP HEAVY on the Venture, cant find it???
Woody replied to 10Power's topic in Watering Hole
I did this to an 06 and it is like adding power steering at slow speeds like in a parking lot, but be aware it is also easier to go full lock when turning sharp. If I had another 2nd gen I would do it again. -
I think they do have some bigger sites, look again but either way we will be glad to have you.

I don't even know if they called the cops since no one was hurt, I think he was embarrassed and wanted it over with. He did leave his buddies behind as they were still getting on their bikes.

Trina and I was headed for a day out in Oxford Alabama about 45 miles from our home and about 10 miles from our house we seen a Harley in the medium with a bunch of people around and there was two vehicles stopped. I passed on by but was telling the wife that the bike might not be ridable and we wasn't that far from home so I turned around and when we got there the automobiles had left and there was five bikes sitting on the side of the road I pulled up and asked the guy if the rider was alright and did they need me to go get my trailer. He said it just happened and the guy was going to see if it would crank so we spoke a minute and I found out they were from Alexander city which is about 40 miles in the opposite direction but Trina just gave me that look like help if you can so I told the guy we were just out and about and didn't mind hauling it. Well the bike fired right up and with plastic broken and hanging off the bike he pulls it up on the road and Hollered at the guy I was talking with to get on his **** bike and lets go. The one guy had told me that the guy took the curve to fast and the road was wet so he ended up in the grass and was not hurt but that the bike flipped twice and from the looks of it tore it up pretty bad. He hit the bike in front of him but that bike didn't go down. But that just reminded me of how fast something like that can happen so please be careful while riding and slow down on wet road and roads you are not familiar with.

hate you let your bike go but you know a bike is not needed to hang out here, I was talked into a trike back in 2013 and have enjoyed a many of miles on it might be something to think about.

Welcome to nut house and you showed up on a good looking bike 🤪

You are correct. heck I may ride again today after my chores are done of course

Okay for anyone interested I replaced the water pump today and from what I read it should take 3.5 to 4 hours if you have done it before and 5.5 to 6 hours if never done it before so that would be me. it took me 5 hours and it worked like a charm we took a 50 mile test ride and the trike never over heated and I use that term loosely after all it is a Harley. but I did notice when I backed it out of the shop the reverse was faster than before so I am convinced that the ground did need cleaning.

Just some experience this week when I first bought my Harley trike new in 2013 off the show room floor I noticed the sound of it cranking like it was dragging but never owning a Harley before and the shop didn't think there was anything wrong I was convinced that's the way they sound. After putting four batteries in since I bought it I woke up at two o'clock one mourning after working on it all night in my sleep and took the ground wire off, cleaned it and the lugs replacing them, the bike cranks better than it has since it was new. A few years ago while riding the blue ridge with some good friends my water pump went out so we carried it to the Harley shop there in Asheville, the folks there at the shop moved it to the front of the line and replaced my pump that had less than 10,000 miles on it with a new one and covered it under warranty. they explained to me that those pumps were a piece of crap and Harley had come up with a new one that was much better so I shouldn't have anymore trouble. WRONG my pump went out yesterday with just over 14000 miles total on the bike and since there is no warranty on it I decided to do the work myself. come to find out they did put a new pump on it but it was the same style the one that had failed before and I had to purchase a new style pump with kit because all the hoes and mounts changed with the new pumps. The service dude says if they do it the cost would be 800 dollars and I'm thinking it should have been done the first time. Okay I hope this helps someone else and I'll get off the box now.

ALL GAVE SOME AND SOME GAVE ALL and I am thankful to ALL my brothers and sisters

The reason I was asking is some oil's do not play well with these bikes. I think I used Rotella T6 in my 2nd gen. it was just a thought
-
I am curious you said you changed oil and filter, what type oil did you put in the bike? OH and by the way if it can be fixed the guys on this forum can do it.

I just did that to my tractors the other day, once you get started it takes all day but the father and son time is the best part.

we are going to ride Saturday to see if Trina's back is getting better. she has rode one time since her surgery and we had to be very careful of road choice. she is doing better and wants to see how it feels now so a short ride to get her ready for Vogel.

Steve I hope you and Ronnie can make it this year.

I'll agree with that, I have been trying to get some pictures for several days now so he finally rode it over and let me take the pictures.
