  1. Thanks for your info/suggestions. All of these are probably good for most needs. Unfortunately they all seem to be limited to 5v 1amp output. I have found that using 4G, Google Navigator & Pandora on my phone will exceed 1amp. So... I am looking for the newer units which can provide up to 3amps. This is what I am researching: - Synchronous rectification,, the conversion rate is 96% or more, very low heat. - Over voltage, over current, over temperature, short circuit, it can be auto protection, and can work in normal condition when restored. - Epoxy potting, seismic, water, moisture, dust, long term stable and reliable quality. - Super-thin, small size, high efficiency, easy installation and use. - Input voltage: DC8-20V, (12V changes to 5V) - Output parameter: DC5V3A, 15W - Size: 46x27x14mm Under fairing wiring - cigarette socket left alone - USB outlet run to my cassette pocket. Thoughts?? JohnB
  2. Also being done is adding an AUX input amp/multi input combiner. In our past FORUM blogs are comments on the AMPLIRIDER made by a person in Canada. It seems to be a well thought out preamp for AUX input with 3 inputs & a remote volume controller if needed. I've just written to see if he still makes & sells it. I'll post the info here after I receive it. JB
  3. I'm finishing up all the add-ons for my RSV-Hannigan & have gotten to the really nice to have add-ons. I have a pocket in my dash made by removing the luxurious stock cassette player. In the pocket, my MP3Venture device is mounted & my AUX stereo jack is there also. I'm placing a RAM Mount X cell phone mount & have realized (by experience) that plugging a cigarette jack car power adapter for USB in, just doesn't stay in for long trips, so... my plan is to install a DC to DC converter device which will convert bike 12V to a USB receptacle. The use usb cable to phone (usb connector in cassette pocket) It seems that there are nice inexpensive high efficiency integrated converter units for under $25 which can provide up to 3amps of 5V. That should do it for my USB power needs. Has anyone done this & willing to share their experiences? Thanks in advance! JohnB
  4. The sidestand switch wiring is designed to put a ground to a matrix of diodes that disable the starter, ignition & fuel pump. The gray wire should place a ground when the alarm is activated to disable drive-ability & efectively shutting down the bike. I believe the remote even has a button to activate a shutdown. Even though the sidestand is removed, the wiring should be there. This is a simpler less "cutting" method of disabling ignition, than wiring pink & gray on sides of cut key-switched 12v to ignition. 5. I've planned my install & here is a description: SPY 5000m ________ Royal Star Venture Alarm Wiring _______ Motorcycle Wiring --------------------------------------------------------- Red ----------------- Battery + Black ---------------- Battery - Black w/ring --------- Chassis/Frame Brown -------------- Tied to Alarm Red - changed - now connects to accessary power Blue ---------------- Taped - Not Used Pink ---------------- Taped - Not Used Gray Sidestand Switch voltage side Yellow Running Lights Yellow (2) Tied to other Alarm Yellow ============================================== SPY 5000m _________ Royal Star Venture Alarm Component ____ Motorcycle Location ----------------------------------------------------------- Control Unit ---------- Bottom of CB case Siren ---------------- Bottom of CB case LED ----------------- Not planning on using Microwave Sensor ---- Under passenger seat Remote Start (Blue) -- Not using Disabler (Gray) ------- Sidestand Switch ============================================== There it is - my plan. Any comments, questions or suggestions Sadly... I've discovered that this alarm will not convert "Lead into Gold". Damn!
  6. I'm raiding my tackle box for sinkers to try it out.
  7. The SPY 5000m Alarm System arrived today... installation will wait until CB Antenna, adapter connector & SWR meter arrive.
  8. For anyone wondering... I had inserted an additional joke specification into my list of specs. "converts lead to gold" Just to see if anyone reads them.
  9. No worries... I just bought... Mura SWR/Power/FS Meter CB Ham Radio Field Strength Meter CBM-20 off eBay - used for 14.99 delivered. For that price & one just one time to use it AOK
  10. Ok Cougar... Did you leave the meter in your trunk or did you take it out? If you took it out, do you now have a meter to sell used? I have a radio to tune. Let me know please. I just ordered my Firestick FG2DD-B
  11. UPDATE! I took my unit out of the fairing & discovered that two end pieces of plastic had broken off. I bought WildBill's cassette unit, so I removed the door & replaced my broken one with it. $40 for repaired door. Now I have a working cassette player without a door. Anyone need a cassette player mechanism? Anyone?
  12. Well I bit the bullet & bought an antenna... from CB-World 1 xFG2DD 29 Inch No Ground CB Antenna Kit - Color: Black$44.29 1 xAD259X Motorola to SO239 Adapter for AM/FM Radios$2.89 1 xKPL258X SO239 Barrel Connector$2.88 :mo money:Sub-Total:$50.06 + Flat Rate Shipping:$0.00 = Total:$50.06
  13. That is so great! I'll let you know if that option works after I receive the kit. I can't wait to try it also. How much does a pound of lead cost these days?
  14. Gee... No one read the alarm specs, it seems.
  15. Step one accomplished. I bought the Alarm System. It is a Spy 2-Way Pager Remote Start Alarm System - LM209 Two way range over 5000 meters (reality - maybe 1000) Super long range monitoring Timer Controlled Remote Engine Starter (won't use) microwave proximity sensor shock sensor • ultra-long FSK communication range • two way range over 5000m • remote query functions • visual, audio and vibration alert remote control • arm / disarm bike finding • Frequency : 2.5GHz +/- 1GHz • Detection Range Sensitivity MAX : Width 2100mm, Length 1200mm • Built-in 2-way pager • Powerful 120dB Piezo 5-tone programmable siren • Learning code Brain sensor • 100% waterproof (proximity sensor is not) • Sound & LED warning light • Anti-Hijacking Function • Remote Start Engine • Car-finding by Sound & Light • Remote cut off Engine • Converts lead to gold • Arm Reminder • Learning Code & Deleting Code • Back-Ground Light • Power Off Memory • Input Voltage : 9-15V Two remotes • 2-way long range FM transmission • Four button with LCD display • Status info display • real time clock • real time moto / alarm status • LCD backlight • visual, audio and vibration alert • Function confirmation The install will be next. I plan on... - installing controller in CB case - siren bolted to bottom of CB case - proximity sensor under rider seat JohnB
  16. I got the CB wired back up except for the antenna. A quick test shows that it works. Now I just need to figure out the parts to get a firestick connected. Changed the wiring on the MP3Venture to get rid of the switch & have power supplied by bike accessory instead of the C-Bus. Then I changed the widshield mounting screws to my mod which uses faucet washers & steel washers to cushion the grip of the windshield to the fairing. Now I get to ride in the nice weather until I get a CB antenna & alarm system. JohnB
  17. I'm still working on the checks & mods for mine so I can ride with piece of mind. latest disaster waiting to happen was plastic tie wraps holding the fuel lines to the fuel filter.
  18. Just got to my first break & here are the discoveries so far... The CB was in it's mounting case, but none of the wires were hooked up. I'm going to check it out for receiving with a temporary hookup & see if it works. Then I'll connect it up & order/buy a CB antenna, mount & connector adapter. PO didn't bother with it I guess. I found the fuel lines held on the fuel filter by plastic tie wraps (not even nylon). So I'm replacing them of course. Back to the effort... JohnB
  19. Did I win? Am I a winner? If I win, I'll attend & ride the "Ghost Rider".
  20. I'm starting another Trike Thread. This one is about installing an Alarm System on a Hannigan Trike. Has anyone already installed One? If so, please share! My plan is to buy an alarm with motion, shock/vibration & proximity sensing. My Trike is looking nice & I'd hate to have it messed up by an evil person without them being noticed. Ideas?
  21. Spring seems to have arrived so I am restarting my check/mod effort. Yesterday's efforts were... Finished my Air Intake checks & mods. I tried the full D-cutout on thus bike. Just like my 2008 RSV, the 2002 RSV found it too lean with the full d cut. So I left it with just an added 1/2 hole added to the factory cutout. After that I spent about one hour changing the cheap Hannigan Trunk lock to a cheap T-Handle lock that works REALLY well. Today is another nice weather day so - I'll be at it in less than one hour. JohnB
  22. Well - after time testing my cross-over - failure - loses air pressure over time. I give up - not enough benefit for effort. Darn it!
  23. Finally got my T-Handle lock installed
  24. I went there last year. There are only two cautions to give you: avoid traveling on it during early morning - locals drive all over the road on weekdays on their way to work the other caution is traveling on it after a wind storm or heavy rain storm. It was a real challenge with fallen tree limbs & batches of wet leaves JohnnyB
  25. Har Har - so I just bought another lock. All together, it is still very inexpensive. JohnB
