I'm lucky; If it is 45 degrees or above I ride. I don't have to prep for storage because there isn't much of a winter in Richmond, VA. I guess the thing that I'd have to do if the bike was older, is check the radiator fluid for effectiveness. Especially if you live in Iowa were I have biking relatives. They have already had multiple snow storms. When ever I talk to them, I ask them if the glaciers have melted there yet .

Thanks for the thoughts. I had plans to send a new tire to the dealer, but they don't touch non-Harleys... so I'm shopping for a replacement & will change it when I get home. Once more, this is part of the AddVenture. Actually much less riskj than other things i do on vacations. I'll check the tire for pressure changes as I ride. Venture 1943 offered to get it changed as my proxy, but I don't want to annoy Adventure Harley. Too many legal things there. I don't want to have another tire failure either. I will be careful & thanks for your info. -

thanks RiderDuke... i will watch it & call for help if needed. It looks like a solid tire that is near THE END OF LIFE. It might have been run with a little too high of air pressure. -
Had to chime in... I run 30 VMware & 10 Openfiler unix based serversat work. At home I only have 1 unix based system which is a virtual Browsing Appliance running on my VMware Server software on top of 1 16GB 2003 64bit server. The other 2 file servers are also 2003. every laptop is running XP or windows 7. I never really grabbed on to unix/linux for a personal computer. had to many MS based apps & utils to give them up. In reality, it may be because of my work. A+,CNE5,CCNA,FCC,MCSE-NT4-2000-2003 My Openfiler Linux based iSCSI Target Servers run for ever! They do one thing & they do it GREAT! Good for all of you sticking with it for home use.

Well, Advventure 1943 (Richard) scouted out my bike & took pictures of the rear tire. I will need to get one very soon. http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs075.snc3/14264_1242152167643_1044481842_1617414_7815516_n.jpg Scary isn't it! -

Monty; Aren't Fatty Tumors a pain! Normal health insurance won't cover removal. I have a friend who has dozens of them.

Well, here we are just days away from Halloween & suddenly everyone is talking about Dover Ohio! What is happening? Is this an elaborate plan by ALIENS to invade Dover, or... Is Dover becoming the Center of the Universe? Muhahaha... only the Shadow knows! Yea... I'm weird, but isn't this talk about Dover kind of weird or coincidental? Couldn't resist some happiness while I'm watching "Monsters vs. Alien Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space". I may be physically 58, but I am mentally 10 years old .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe it is... no, I don't know. Some don't, but they seem to be the small dealers with a small building. The really big dealers always seem to tuck them away in a rear storage area. Your guess is a good as mine. -

Here is a request for kindness; Any Venture Riders near Dover willing to stop by Adventure HD for me? I would appreciate a quick check of my bike to insure that the rubber is OK for my trip home? It would be nice to have a heads-up about any tire safety issues. Let me know please. Thanks. -

Hey; Are there any riders near Dover (OH) that would want to ride along for awhile as I ride home? On 11/7, I should be leaving Adventure Darley Davidson at about 2:30 PM. If no riders to ride along, does anyone want to meet an almost really old guy for a mid-afternoon meal/snack? Message me if anyone is interested. Rain or shine... Thanks.... -

Thanks for the thoughts. I hike & climb in the arid areas of Nevada, Utah & Arizona in the summer & often above 100 degerees. You plan, re-plan & plan some more. My Honda Shadow Spirit that I bought off eBay 5 years ago was from Mike's Harley Davidson in MD. That was an interesting Train ride with gear to get the bike & ride it home. HD dealers have good deals on non-HD bikes. Thank you HD! johnb -

Here is my old 1998 V-star which is looking for a new home... http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/member/7/d/9/2/highres_8012146.jpeg http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/member/7/d/8/c/highres_8012140.jpeg http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/member/7/d/a/4/highres_8012164.jpeg The pictures were taken today after a wash & wax with my camera phone. Good camera broke on lmy last vacation (rats - 1/2 way up the climb of Frenchman Mt. in Las Vegas). The YAHAHA plate will move to the new bike. It's my way of telling Harley people that Yamahas (& other mets) are at least $6000 cheeper. Ha Ha! -

Shipping was a thought & priced just as you said (under$600) but... where is the AddVenture in that? My expected costs to get there are: $129 for flight to Akron might do $79 special Shuttle from airport direct to bike (unless someone knows about a regular shuttle) The ride home from there is just fun, food & gas. I don't even care if it's raining, freezing, etc. I'll just adjust the speed, might hop off expressways & use GPS for back road alternates. Thanks for the shipping thought though... johnb -
I'm a soon to be picking up a (new to me) 2008 Venture. My addVenture started by searching the internet adds to find the best buy (for me). Many slipped by from my hesitance... some just didn't feel right... some were priced like they were gold lined. Searches, eBay & Craigs List were used. After days of searches, notes & research; I stumbled upon a poor lonely Red/Black Venture abandoned by it's owner, which apparently left his bike love & turned over to the Dark Side. Yes, the previous owner succumbed to all of the Harley marketing & mantra; & is now marching in line with his buddies (this is just a guess). Well, the poor bike is anxiously waiting for me to pick it up & take it home. She (the bike) already nows that I love it & have started making preparations to take care of it. The plan is: search for & buy a Dowco cover for it as soon as I find a good price [Anyone have suggestions] buy insurance from Progressive the Wednesday before I get it purchased ticket to fly to Akron, OH (Orbits is the best) [leaving early & arriving in Akron on 11/7 @ 11:45AM] eat hardly anything before flying to minimize human pit-stops on the way home [pack some energy bars] after landing in Akron, get transportation to Dover, OH (in process of finding) [anyone have any recommendations - Shuttle service?] taking my rain gear/suit, full helmet, ski gloves, boots, level 2 armor jacket/pants & security after giving cashier check to owner, putting plate on, checking tire pressures, checking fluids, filling up with gas (adding Sea Foam)... I'll mount my GPS & call the wife that I'll be starting the final leg of my addVenture. Lastly, start the long fun ride from Dover, OH to Richmond, VA Woo! Hoo! I can't wait. These Venture bikes seem like they were made for me. So... I'm still looking for recommendations on: best transportation to get for travel from Akron Airport to Dover any suggestion for buying a cover for the new girl... - manufacturers - models - sellers Thanks; johnb

Well I'm joing the confused & will getting a rear tire before sping, I think???? I'm traveling to a Harley dealer in Ohio to buy a 2008 Venture. Asked the folks to check the tires and they said the front is fine & the rear looks like it needs replacement soon. So... either the Harley dealer salesperson doesn't know about metric touring tires & doesn't understand their pattern or I will be joining you guys in... THE HUNT FOR THE PERFECT TIRE Because I am a proactive, rather than a reactive person I have started already. My thoughts/notes are: 404's - junk/crap - noisy - lousy mileage Shinko - most comments make me think they are average for mileage Metzler - I accept the majority - will not touch them Avon Venum - would buy these if I found a sale Dunlop Elite 3 - my chice at prices I have found today That is it so far. Everyone, please keep up the posts & opinions. It has been great for me!
