Hi Richard; I am not going to the June maintenance day in Ohio. Too many things already scheduled this year. Maybe next year???? Still have a wobble above 85mph. Current pressures are 36 for the Viper on the front & 36 for the Kumho on the rear. I'm taking off on a trip to Rochester, NY tomorrow AM & will end up putting about 1500 miles in 5 days. All my relatives seem to be getting cancer lately. I need to see them while I can. Multiple trips planned, which prevent an Ohio MD. john

Hi! This Thursday I'm riding from Richmond to Rochester to visit relatives for the long weekend. My route is 95 - 17 - 15. Wave if you see me along the route of 500+ miles. My return is on the following Tuesday. Just look for my cherry/black two tone 2008 RSV. johnb

Anyone who has gone to Sedona, AZ, knows that driving a motorcycle on the roads around there would/is great! Just a few weeks ago, my friends & I went to Sedona for hiking & to rent some motorcycles for a day. We would ask locals who rents motorcycles, got directions... went there... found out that the placed closed a few months back. Harley Davidson Store & Rentals - Closed EagleRider Rentals - Closed Only 1 place is left that rents anything. It is on 89a on the south side of Sedona. It had plenty of scooters (YUK!), one old sportster & a broken bmw. WTF! A beautiful place to ride a motorcycle & none to find to rent. Oh well... should have rented them the last time I was there (2 years ago). johnb

Well I have been having thoughts on wobble at 85 & acceleration to 95. I developed a theory that aerodynamics may be the controlling factor. At my last meetup I noticed that my Venture had a much shorter/wider windshield than the other 33 Ventures there. To prove my theory, the best way would to buy & install a stock tall windshield. My problem with that is lack of money to buy it. I had to come up with a different method of testing. With the same height windshield, all I could do is lower my body height to below the height of the windshield I have... so I tucked my body down close to the tank like a sport bike rider & cranked the gas. There was no wobble. I think I have found the problem with my bike. The custom short windshield seems to enable the wobble with me sitting tall in the seat. Other than that, I now have 25065 miles on my bike & the tires are great so far. johnb

----------------------------------------------- Yep... Road King pipes/mufflers are the way to go. I recommend against BUBs unless you like repacking the fiberglass every year or two. Mine came with BUBs which were loud enough to hurt your ears. I took them apart... removed the last pieces of fiberglass... drilled 4 3/8" holes in the plate nearest the engine... added 8" universal muffler baffles... reassembled & now they are nice. Road King mufflers would have been easier. johnb -

------------------------------------------------------ Hi Bummer; I just change my front tire last week to a Avon Venom AM42 150/80B-16. It is a rear tire mounted in reverse for proper tread use & has about 11/32 of tread to start with. My rear tire is a Kumho. johnb -

------------------------------------------------------- Yes, you will have to split the fairing to get to the connectors... disconnect them... clean & use dielectric/silicon grease... then re-connect & tape them to seal them shut with good 3M electrical tape. However, that would also be a good time to change the speakers out to Polk Audio DB401s with BASS Blockers. That is my plan in a month or two. johnb -

Yes... actual comparison will be great for us & others. I ride at least 10,000 motorcycle miles each year. The tire is on, I will report the mileage, set the tire pressure & take a quick highspeed test ride for wobble. Then I will report it here. johnb

Repacked my BUB's today (pics/video)
First_N_Last replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well... I pulled my BUBs off & discovered the packing was just like in the photos above. However, I took a different approach. I put 8" universal baffles in the opening of the stock baffles. Because the inserted 8" baffles have little clearance to the sides of the opening, I drilled 4 3/8" holes in the stock baffle's closest disc/block to the engine. This allows exhaust to flow down the center & outer parts of the stock baffles & then into the added 8" baffles. My muffler tips were also flaking chrome, so I belt sanded them & then painted them with high temp black stove paint. The sound level is much reduced, but still growls. The only change in performance is a little more torque at take off (must have stock jets). Still can't pull wheelies... only burn rubber... really. Hemi-Dodge annoyed me for a few traffic lights & I opened it up at the next. johnb -

No... there is no way to check the packing without disassembly other than sound level. -
Received email last night (4/8) indicating that my tire has shipped via UPS.

Well, I have placed my order for a tire. My front tire tread depth is down to about 1/32. Normally I would have bought the Pirelli MT66, but I found a good price on a venom. I have bought... 150/80HB-16 (77H) Avon Venom AM42 Rear Motorcycle Tire Black Wall from www.jakewilson.com for $135.99 with free shipping also found a $25 mail in rebate from Avon Final Cost will be $110.99 The tire should be here in 3 work days or less & mounted by next weekend. Tire will be mounted with peak of tread lines pointing up as viewed from the front (probably reversed). More status to come... johnb

Thanks... that web site has a lot of info. It was interesting to know that some Valkyrie bikes shipped with Bias on the front & Radial on the rear. It seems that the long term users also recommend Rear Bias tires on the front & to mount them with mounting direction normal (not reversed). A rear tire on the front is definitely NOT going to make it easier to handle my bike at less than 10 mph. However, it seems that the more you ride, the stronger your upper body gets to BULL it around. I have to admit that I now have more to consider. johnb

I currently have a worn OEM Dunlop on the front & am looking for a better replacement. A Pirelli rear reversed on the front? Have many done that & been happy?

This is my favorite of the bunch so far... Bridgestone - G853 Exedra OE Radial Front Tire Size - 150/80VR-16 G The tread seems to be the best to prevent wobble. After I put my CT on I had wobble on curves above 70. It appears that as the front tire has continued to wear, the wobble has moved up in speed to wear it wobbles on curve up grades above 80 or 90. I want as much straight deep tread in a radial to match the Kuhmo, as I can get.

Ok... I've been doing a lot of searches for a front tire to match my rear Kumho on my 2008 VRS. The narrowed down choices for me are: - Bridgestone Battlax BT-020 150/80R-16 71V - Michelin Commander 130/90H-16 - Michelin Commander 150/80H-16 - Avon AM41 Venom 150/80H-16 I want a radial - straight tread in the middle - high mileage - reliable. There is at best 2500 miles left on mine (2 months riding). Any suggestions, comments or experience to share from the Dark Siders? johnb
