RSV-Hannigan Trike fender-light bar clearance
First_N_Last replied to First_N_Last's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
------------------------------------ That fork was loose & all the way up when I disassembled it. It is so loose that you could twist it & move it up and down with one hand. I have the Hannigan invoice for the conversion which lists the rake kit (EZ Steer). It is raked as compared to my 2008 RSV I own till I sell it (hopefully soon).- 47 replies

RSV-Hannigan Trike fender-light bar clearance
First_N_Last replied to First_N_Last's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
Well at this point I have the anxiety of having to wait until tomorrow to dig in deeper to this issue. What I am certain of at this point: this front end clearance looseness had to be noticed in some way or form by the previous owner the nylon self locking nut could not have been tightened properly if it just fell off the left fork being that loose & slid up means the right fork spring has to have suffered compression damage because it was the only spring providing suspension action. because the right spring is damaged, I'll have to at least replace both fork springs now my experience has been that forks don't come loose unless they weren't tightened to spec when assembled I AM NOT HAPPY! I hope I just find loose clamp bolts & not stripped bolts tomorrow. Stay tuned for more frustration to be endured by me & to bring smiles to others who may have suffered similarly. JohnB- 47 replies

RSV-Hannigan Trike fender-light bar clearance

Today as I worked from home, I spent breaks & lunch working on the front end. I started by taking the fairing completely off... first the top half... disconnecting cables & more wire cables... finally, the bottom of the fairing is removed & the first sign of problems shows see the fork tube slid up about 2 1/2 inches in the photo? second sign - nut holding fairing bracket to the upper tree is missing. this nut is a nylon locking nut. they just don't loosen up & fall off. Forgot to tighten up? - probably here is the other nut on the other side of the bracket for reference... the fork tube in this picture is so loose that I can twist it with my hands... More work tomorrow & more photos... I tried taking some short cuts, but with all the work I know I have to do now... pausing to - remove gas tank - remove front fender - remove front wheel - remove front brakes - Damn!- 47 replies

This is what my need is: plate to put on the back of my Trike below the license plate plate will say "Ghost Rider" plate needs to be at least 2"x8" up to 3"x24" engraved (if I can afford it) else etched/stamped RED letters Please oh great forum members - share your knowledge???? RSV-Hannigan Trike fender-light bar clearance
First_N_Last replied to First_N_Last's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
Yes, this was Butch's Trike. With me riding it at high speeds across states & with a little more weight than him, the clearance became a BIG issue. So after doing quick research in the Tech Library, I found http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=939 (Lowering the Front End - by Freebird). I think that by following this tech info & adjusting the forks down should solve the problem. Before I get started on this, has anyone done this without removing the lower part of the Front Fairing completely? I have no garage & will be doing this in the driveway. Damn I hate not having a garage! Of course I'll check all other measurements that I can to be sure that the problem is not something other than my planned fork adjustment. For the adjustment, I plan to adjust the forks to have 3 3/4" of clearance minimum. If that goes alright, I'll change out the fork oil to 15 weight while following this procedure http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=57207 (Changing the Fork Oil). Please???? Anyone with TIPS, SUGGESTIONS, WARNINGS, ANYTHING to share, please do. I just want to get this done & fixed so I stop the damage, save money, save time & can finally ride again. I did not expect this type of repair was needed when I bought & all my planned money has been spent. Thanks in advance; JohnB- 47 replies

RSV-Hannigan Trike fender-light bar clearance

What I have to fix first is the clearance problem. My 2008 Royal Star Venture has 3 3/4" between the light-bar & the front fender. My problem 2002 Venture-Hannigan has just 1 3/4" between the bar & fender. Just 1 3/4" clearance is the main problem. If I have to disassemble the forks to fix, I probably should upgrade the fork springs also. Thanks; JohnB- 47 replies

RSV-Hannigan Trike fender-light bar clearance

Thanks for all the info... The previous owner graciously contacted me & provided info. He had noticed that first fender dent about 3 years ago. The additional increasing denting appeared to be the result of hitting bumps on the way home (caused by the clearance issue). At least the mystery of the 3 year old dent is over. Now for the real problem of the clearance. The previous owner has not lowered the front end. The front end lowering had to have been done during the Hannigan conversion. Monday morning I'll be contacting Hannigan for their comments, etc. - Today I'm sending this thread & photos to Hannigan The light-bar extension was on prior to conversion & the light clearance reduction is a very minor contributor to this problem. Initially, I'll add air pressure to the front forks, then wait for Hannigan suggestions. Members, thanks for your help... JohnB- 47 replies

Well the checks of my Trike have revealed its first problem. When I picked it up, I was told that a small dent was discovered in the front fender which was believed to be caused by the light-bar falling on the fender during a performed repair. After driving it home I discovered that the small dent is now a crease in what was my beautiful fender. Sooooooo... Anyone who has had their Venture converted with a Hannigan kit & EZSteer - Have you had problems with your light-bar hitting the front fender on hard bumps due to reduced clearance between the bar & the fender? I have a call into the previous owner... Before I attempt to fix the problem, I need to know if the reduced clearance is from the EZSteer install or some lowering adjustment performed. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Anyone know where I can get fender damage repaired like I have? Thanks as always - here are some photos. show two dents & ridge mark across fender shows small clearance problem

More tuning/modding parts arrived today... Iridium spark plugs StarBurst plug-n-play cable for headlight modulator First problem discovered in checks - will place that in a separate thread JohnB -
I totally agree with the HummingBird. A little planning & thought eliminates REVERSE GEAR needs. I had torn my rotator cup trying to keep my venture from tipping while backing it up or turning at the end of a parking effort. My Voyager kit was a good low cost light riding resolution, but a full Trike Conversion is the best. HummingBird's GoldWing Trike is very nice & if he says he could do without if he had to, I believe him. JohnB

Like others, the new Hannigan upgraded brakes are just great & have much more stopping power than your tire/road friction can handle. Just call Hannigan & ask them about upgrade costs. They are very helpful & supportive. That way you will have something supportable, proven & reliable (as others have known). JohnB -

yea, but I bet it won't remove warts, remove age spots or soften skin like Sea Foam.

So that is what that silly vent tube is next to the battery case that got in the way when I was adding the Dynatek TDI. Glad I left it alone & just wrestled with it during the TDI replacement. Thanks for the exact info... JohnB

Oops! Wrong part number for clutch friction plate. It should be 26H-16307-01-00 Yes - I ordered the wrong one. ARGH! JohnB

SkyDoc's Heavy Spring & added clutch plate worked great for my 2008 RSV. A bit grabby, but it grabbed & fixed slipping clutch. However, because you have to remove every clutch plate & friction plate as well as a wire & two additional parts to toss... it gets to be a bit tedious for less experienced maintenance folks. It is do-able, but tedious & tricky. SkyDoc's $90 with all parts & gasket - good instructions (more effort to do) Barnett is often $140+ - you have to order a gasket yourself - easy instructions - & extra friction plate if you want that also (no instructions on doing that). For Trike & Trailering, I recommend the Barnett (extra plate not needed then). For 2 wheel, I recommend saving the money & getting SkyDoc's. JohnB -

------------------------------ Upgrading to Barnett Clutch Plate Spring Conversion takes about a hour... - get new clutch cover gasket - get Barnett kit - get engine oil for drain & fill - get cam type Allen Metric Wrenches 1 drain engine oil 2 remove bolts from clutch cover - lay them out so you know what bolt goes where 3 tap clutch cover with rubber mallet - remove cover 4 clean old gasket off cover & case as needed 5 remove 6 bolts holding clutch spring ring - then remove ring - then remove old clutch spring & clutch plate 6 double check & insure that inside case & cover is clean from any parts of old gasket 7 install new Barnett clutch plate on clutch basket assembly - you mave have to remove & rotate a couple times to get the plate to seat properly 8 then install Barnett the six spring/bolts as in the Barnett instructions - don't over tighten 9 put new gasket on - then cleaned clutch cover - reinstall cover bolts in holes as they were originally - tighten 10 insure you installed & tightened oil drain plug & add oil that's it - quick & easy -
By the way; DO NOT DRINK Sea Foam. it will not make your body work better. Just saying... in case... you know???? However, you can use it to remove warts - soften your skin - remove age spots & more!

is it running? is it working? don't mess with it. close your eyes & pretend everything is wonderful.

A memorable happy Christmas was many years ago when I was 10. Life was simple - no worries of presidents killed - no Cuban Missile crisis yet - didn't know what politics was - if you wanted to work, you could find a job - real tree in the living room - just a happy simple time. A peaceful memory. JohnB
