I rented an Ultra for 2 days when I went to Hawaii. I rode the entire island and loved every minute of the ride. It's the first time I had ever ridden an ultra and I liked it ok. Different from my 1st Gen but I still liked the ride. My wife liked it ok as well. She said she could see a little better because of the way she sat but she was buffeted a little. The seat was a little cramped but it was pretty similar to the 1st Gen for her. After that week I actually put an Ultra on my possible list. I liked the sound and mystique of the HD as well. Then I got my '07 RSMV. I wasn't in the market for a bike at the time but the price was something I couldn't pass up and the bike had a great deal of sentimental value. (That's another story) As soon as I spent some time on the RSMV I was hooked. There was NO comparison between it and the Ultra. Stronger, smoother and far more comfortable. As soon as my wife rode with me she was hooked as well. She had much more room and a far more comfortable ride on the RSMV. As for sound, I just put custom pipes on and I love it. I ride with a lot of guys that have Ultras and I wouldn't trade my '07 for any of them even if the HD was cheaper. The RSMV is just a better bike... period. I also do all my own work and the ease of maintaining the Yamaha engine means I spend more time riding and less time wrenching. I can't count the number of times I've been ready to ride with some of my HD friends and they couldn't come because their bike was in the shop. Not because it was broken down but for maintenance. While they take their bikes in to the shop for a day, I change the oil in 15 minutes and I'm in the mountains enjoying the wind. To each his own but I have no interest in any other bike right now.

I have yet to meet someone on a RSV that didn't love the bike. My '07 is the best bike I have ever owned and my wife likes it better than anything she's been on. It really is amazing that Yamaha doesn't see the potential they have. But...... let's all look at the bright side. If they ever figure it out and start to spend money on things like CD players, FI, Multiple color schemes and marketing the price will probably increase $5K. :mo money:I guess it's ok riding the best kept secret in Touring Bikes.

That would be one awesome trip. I don't think the RSV would do well on the dirt and gravel though.

I have little sympathy for people like us but the tragedy seems to be the elderly who only use email to talk to their kids and really have no Internet savvy at all. My parent's generation seems to be way more trusting than mine and they fall for this crap. Most of the time these perps are from overseas. (I'm 52 BTW so I'm talking about people in their 70s who have never really come to terms with computers. My Dad did really well and used them a lot but my mom never even learned to turn one on.

Thinking about buying a Venture...
loehring replied to sho_greg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have an '07 Midnight and it's the best bike I've ever owned. This is number 6. My wife also likes it the best. At this point there's not another bike out there that I would take over the Venture. Who knows what the next 5 years will bring but as of now, the Venture is my choice. Regarding the KAW........ I haven't heard a lot good about it. They may have a good bike there but not on the first run. Give the model a few years to get rid of the bugs and it may be worth looking at but I've heard too many complaints. -
There are some things that just don't need to be invented. I guess if I was a ATGATT person and rode through Death Valley in July........

I paid $89 with the AMA discount. That's a lifetime update for the 550.

Clutch Hand, OK...I'm a wuss
loehring replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It shouldn't be that difficult. I have the spring upgrade and I don't have any issues. Do you have something going on with your hand like Carpal Tunnel? I don't have that big a hand. I'm 5'9" 200lbs and I use three fingers. If it's that bad then there's something wrong with the clutch or your hand. -
I've never heard those terms before. I guess I would be a WEWFY. (What Ever Works for You) Weather, riding conditions and local laws dictate what I wear. I always wear boots, jeans and gloves but if I'm in FL and it's 90, it's T-Shirts and the lid is stowed. Some may think I'm crazy but that's just me. I know no one can avoid every possible scenario but after 30 years, the way I ride is my greatest safety feature. I love the freedom and riding just wouldn't be the same if I were covered in body armor. We all have a common interest and love but bikers are individualists and everyone should wear what they want.

Avon tire questions
loehring replied to Dieseldawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I guess I'm just a sucker for following directions but if Avon says 36 / 42 then that's what I run. If I'm heavily packed or riding 2 up I will take it to 37 / 44 but that's it. At 16000 miles I still haven't reached the wear lines on my rear tire. I do check the pressure a couple times a week and whenever I am going on a day long ride. -
We're all praying for a fast recovery Annie. Keep the faith, you'll be fine.

Does 25 inches of snow and -40 windchill sound fun to you?!?!?!

Soooooooooooo you goin' ridin'??? -
I had an '89 that my wife 'ok' with but she was never really comfortable on it. We took a trip to Hawaii and rented an Ultra for 2 days. Rode the whole island and she was better with the HD than the '89. Then I got the '07.......... Trust me Don, test ride a 2nd Gen with your wife and you won't be interested in the HD any more. My wife has ridden with me on all my bikes and the '07 wins hands down. Smoother, more powerful, more room for the passenger and WAY better priced.

I just have a rule I follow, "never buy the first year of ANYTHING". This bike has a lot going for it but it's the first year for the design. That's actually one of the best things about the RSV. They've 'perfected' the platform. I would like to see improvements as well but even if Yamaha came out with a new RSV with all the new stuff I would wait and buy at least the second year of the update. Just me.

Prayers on the way from Buford GA. May God's healing hand be upon Annie and may there be a full recovery. Amen!!
-
The only things that will keep me off are snow and ice. (I say that knowing how rare days in the single digits are in GA) I guess depending on distance and speed I may chicken out below 10. (I would chicken out below 40 without heated gear )

So if I'm born in the US and move to Australia, does that make me almost a day older??
-
That doesn't exactly look like a full dresser he's on either. I'd ride in the snow on a dirt bike too.

It's amazing how creative people can get.

Buy based on your riding. If you only ride on nice sunny days on paved roads then anything will bold up. Then you're just looking at features. If you are an all weather rider then you may find that cheap is useless. I have the Zumo 550 and it has been worth every penny but I ride in virtually anything. The Zumo is wateproof, shock resistant and glove friendly. Loaded with features but if you don't subject your GPS to adverse conditions then you can find the features on a cheaper model. Just make sure you buy what you need. Otherwise you'll just end up spending twice the money replacing what you thought you bought at a better price n Just my .02

Sorry to hear about all this oldgoat. This economy is hurting a lot of people. I've been out of work for almost a year and the savings are going fast. The only reason I still have my bike is that it's paid for and more dependable than my van. I'll be praying for you brother.

Now if they could just find a way to put some mountains and curves in there it would be perfect. I just can't do straight and flat. South FL is a great place to visit though.

Way to go Annie. Congrats.

Great job Annie. I hope you won't be going very fast though. I'd hate to see all the work blowing away.:sleigh:
