  1. PGR has done this sort of ride before. Not the awareness part but the coast to coast, multi-state. We escorted the "Rick Monday" flag from Florida to L.A., we escort the "Wreaths Across America" shipment from Main to Arlington and we've handed off heroe's plaques on a "Pony Express" format. I'm sure you would find some interest but to make it a sanctioned ride you would need to contact the national leadership and they would discuss it with the state captains. If it weren't sanctioned because of the PGR Mission Statement you would probably still get plenty of PGR support on an individual basis. Try to contact National and if they don't feel they can make it official I would be happy to post any itinerary information as a heads-up, elective sort of thread. Let me know if I can help.
  2. Sometimes I wish I were as mechanically inclined as the people here on this site. For those who are as challenged as I am, I bought the classic jacket liner and gloves last year aong with a dual control and love them. The connectors are the same as Gerbing and I haven't been able to find a quality difference either. Just about half the price. http://cozywinters.com/heated-clothing/
  3. I have the Zumo 550 and it all works perfectly. Anything routing through the unit whether it's directions or the Bluetooth phone will cut the music until done.
  4. Hey Don, Put me down for 2. I'll Paypal you tonight.
  5. The webupdater is for program updates only. They have had 2 since I purchased my Zumo. The updater works great. It has no effect on the desktop program. That updates separately. The DVD is for updated maps and points of interest. There is quite a bit updated but I know they are still way behind where I live as well. I can't get that agrivated though. Even Google Maps is way behind where I live. Too many people moving out here and way too much construction. I need to move to the mountains.
  6. I had to purchase the update. I think the free update is for those who made the purchase within the last 90 days.
  7. I was doing a happy dance when I heard it.
  8. I have the Rivco adapter for my 1st Gen and use the Mobile 1 M-105. From everything I've read it's one of the best. I guess I look at oil and filters the way I look at tires, that's not the place to pinch pennies. Get the best you can.
  9. This is the only "non-traditional" bike that has caught my eye. A great winter or severe weather ride. Looks like fun too. http://www.flytheroad.com/
  10. I think that price is fine. I would be interested.
  11. That's some very interesting stuff Jeremy. That's why I love this site. There are so many people that know so much I'm always learning. Thanks.
  12. Unfortunately I tend to follow them home so we can have a friendly discussion. My wife gets really pissed at me.
  13. Thanks for all the help guys. I guess I'll probably just spring for the K&N. Todd, I haven't spent the money on a CB yet. I may just wait and pick up the J&M with the intercom and port for XM. I have the Zumo 550 so they would work together perfectly. I saw it for about $250. That may be a spring purchase. As for the SC M&E, I wish I could. I really need a break but the job thing has me pretty tied down right now. I something happens and I get some time off I'll let you know though. Thanks for the invite. Ride safe all.
  14. Does any know if there's an auto filter that will fit a 1st Gen? I hate ordering air filters and would love to just pick something up ay Wally World.
  15. Abducted by Aliens!! They wanted to know why 1st Gens are SOOOOO much faster.
  16. Hey Dragracer, that's a great idea and something any one of us could build. An great addition to it would be a hinged drop panel at the rear for easy removal of the rear tire. The tire shop I use has one and they're able to drop the rear tire on my 1st Gen without removing anything but one pipe. Could you post the plans? I would love to build one.
  17. When I changed the diaphrams in my '89 I had a member tell me to check a marine parts dealer. As it turned out the carbs were the same as Yamaha puts in boat motors and they charged about half what the bike parts places wanted. Check it out before you spend the money on parts.
  18. Prayers offered. As tragic as these things are we all need to use them as a wake-up call and preach safety to everyone we know. All we have is eachother and we should all be setting the right example for the younger and less experienced riders. May God Bless and comfort this family.
  19. I have an '89 and I've been running ME880s. I'm on my third rear averaging 20k and the front is still good. I'll be changing that with the next rear. I've had no trouble at all out of the tires. The Metzler site doesn't list the '83-'85 VR but I would check to see if the ME880 has the right size.
  20. Thanks guys. It looks like the plates and the springs are separate. Would it be a good idea to replace both? I have 75k on the bike and as far as I know it's the original clutch. I bought the bike with 26k about 18 months ago.
  21. Thanks Boss Hogg. Do I need anything else for the rebuild? (Springs or anything?)
  22. My clutch has started to slip in 4th and 5th. It's not too bad yet but I know it's time to rebuild it. I have never done it before and I need some advice about what parts to order. The pictures for the Barnett conversion are pretty helpful and I have a manual so I think I will be ok. I have no idea what parts to order though. I have looked online but everything seems to be for other bikes. I have an '89 VR. Can anyone help with what I need to do the job? Any help would be appreciated. I could also use some advice regarding where I can get the parts for a good price. Thanks
  23. The volume control has gone out on my CB. I have had the unit checked out and there's nothing wrong with the CB just the volume switch. Does anyone have any idea where i can get a compatable switch? I don't want to spend big bucks on another CB if I can just replace the switch.
  24. I have been running Rotela T Synthetic in my 1st Gen for the last 20k miles. There is a tiny leak that is really nothing more than an annoyance either comming from the stator or the transmission cover. Just enough to make a small wet spot under the kick stand but not ebough to ever have to add any oil between changes. I've changed the gasket on the transmission cover but that made no difference at all. I'm beginning to think it may simply be synthetic oil. I've heard different opinions but my question was, would it hurt anything to go to Rotela T standard oil? The bike runs great and I don't want to do anything to screw it up. As you can tell I'm no mechanic. Just wanted ya'lls advice.
  25. I've been sitting with the engine running with a group and put the kickstand down. Then forgot to pull it up before I put it back in gear. Everyone else is rolling out and I'm just sittin' there restarting the scoot. Gotta love it.
