I'm sorry to hear this Todd. Far too many good people are lost. may God bless and comfort his family.

Collector noise.

Thanks for the great information guys. I'm afraid my mechanical expertise ends with chewing gum and duct tape though. Todd, do you think you might be able to help me with it some time? ( I like the paint job. That's funny ) -
I think I have the issue that so many have had with the baffles in the collector. When I start it there's a rattle. It's there when I rev and when I down shift but not on a steady throttle. If it's the baffles, can that cause anything other than irritation? If I remove the baffles and put the collector back together will that cause any problems? I would rather not spend the money on anything new if I can avoid it.

This is a great picture of Mike! Thanks Sling. I didn't know you and Peggy were members here. I hope to see you Thursday or Friday.

I'll get a couple of my favorites to you as soon as I get them from my home computer. Thanks Don.

It's with a very heavy heart that I let you all know of the passing of a great friend and brother. Many of you who are PGR members may know the name "Deltoid" GA Ride Captain. Mike Bland was one of the finest people I've ever met and one of the few I would consider a true friend. He lived with no compromise. A Marine to the end Mike died of a brain tumor Friday night without a wimper. Through months of deteriorating health he never complained and continued to make people around him laugh and feel good about themselves. I will really miss him. I bought Mike a Venture Guardian Bell last Christmas in the hopes that there would be a miracle and Mike would ride again. He has an '07 Midnight Venture and was a member here even though I don't think he ever posted. He liked to read a lot of the tech stuff. Mike was cremated Saturday and we will have a memorial service later this week. the Guardian Bell will be attached to his urn and protect him on his final ride. I wish you all could have known him. He would have fit in perfectly with the great group of people I have met here. Thanks for the friendship and the miles Mike. I will miss you.

I know there are many here that don't like Metzlers but I'm on my third rear ME 880 Marathon and I've averaged 20k. I'm about ready to change the one on there now because I'm almost to the wear lines. My riding is 90% solo and Interstate but I love the tires. I got almost 45k out of the front before changing and I've never had a single problem. I commute 100 miles a day so it never sits and I check the tread and pressure at least twice a week. I've never been accused of being a conservative rider so I don't know what I'm doing different.

Down and out!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the accident Kurt. That really sucks but I'm glad you're ok. As bad as it sounds I guess it could have been worse. Watch Ebay. You never know what might turn up. -
How much is too much?

I just added LED bars and tied them into the existing wires to the brake lights on my 1st Gen. The turn indicators are fine and now I have an LED on the trunk and both bags. I added a modulator so they flash when I apply the brakes. I haven't noticed any problems so far and they've been on there for about 18 months. -
Running a red on a scoot is just plain stupid but what concerns me is the cagers that may take something like this as a free pass. Just one more reason to wait that extra second before you go on the change to green.

I haven't had any issues at all. I have the audio cable connected to a tape addapter so I have the MP3 capability. My phone is blue toothed. I do have a friend that had an issue with water after a particularly bad rain. Garmin was great to him as well. They sent a new cradle with no problem. His was cutting off. So far I've been blesses I guess regardless of weather.

That is really a cool looking paint job. I would love to see it in person when you gets done. (If I parted my bike in the house like that I would be SOOO SINGLE!!)

I can't wait to see more pictures. DON'T FORGET THE CAMERA!! Just curious, if you wanted to ride Kauai how much would it cost to send the RSV there for a couple days or would it be better to rent a bike there?
-
I've never kept track either. With a 17 year gap from the time my 1st was born until I started riding again, (I did the "Dad" thing that everyone thought I should. ) if I had to guess I would say 300k give or take a few.

I loved Hawaii when I was there last year. Rented an Ultra on Kauai for two days. Beautiful!!! It'll be over soon and then you can post pictures of the sun.

Interested in a 1st Gen. Almost 20 and still runs awesome. Let's see if the 2nd Gen holds up as well. Only time will tell. (There's an argument no one can win. )

Kind of like a dog. Just because we can't hear it doesn't mean they can't. (Sneaky little b@$#&*^%$#)

I'm kind of new to the Guardian Bell thing and was wondering where it should be mounted on a 1st Gen. I appreciate any suggestions.

I have an '89 as well. Bought it 2 years agao with 26k. I'm at 90k now and nothing but great riding. I've relaced the head bearings, clutch, carb diaph, brakes and fluids, and just rebuilt the starter. Everythings been realtively easy to work on and she's never left me stranded. I wouldn't hesitate to take her as far as the road will take us. Great bike.

What would cause this and is it only certain years that it would effect?

That's why I joined this group.

I commute with my '89 so mileage and handling are both very important. I am on my third rear and second front with Metzler ME880 Marathons and I'm very pleased. I've read that some have had problems but I haven't had any. The rears are averaging 20-22k and the front made almost 50k. Handling is great so I'm very happy. Living in the north GA area I spend a lot of time on mountain roads and I tend to be a peg dragger. I may try a set of Venoms because I've heard good things about them but I don't know how they could be much better.

My experience with a wobble was due to worn bearings. Slowing quickly would make it worse due to front loading. I've never had a "blow out". Most tires are designed not to unless you have a catastrophic sidewall failure. I think all this advise is pretty good. Gradual slowing and never panic. I had one tank slapper years ago on an '84 Wing. It was wet and I let off the clutch too quick on a downshift. The rear tire broke loose and it was all I could do to stay verticle. I'll NEVER do that again!!!! I'm just not the adrenaline junkie I once was and my heart was in my throat at 70+. Not Good!!

This is all very true. There are plenty of ways to make money but the trick is to find the right fit for you. If it's legal it will make money for someone, but will it make money for you? From Quixtar to Herbalife to Mary kay, they will all make money but not everyone will do what it takes to make them work. Like Blackjack said, most will require some form of selling. If you enjoy it you will do it and be successful but if you don't you won't. Look for something you like doing that has a proven track record. Avoid the "ground floor opportunities" and always remember if it looks too good to be true it probably is. Good luck.
