This sounds great Jack. I wish I wasn't stuck going to a friend's wedding this weekend. I'll be in Tampa. I hope you find some takers.
-
That would work for me. I'll contact you in a few weeks and we can set it up. Do you have the tood to sync the carbs as well? That would be great to knock it out in one trip. (I do need to go ahead and get one though)

That sounds like a great idea. Be sure to post pictures.

I can definately do the lunch Todd. If I rode out there do you think some water would cool it enough to pull it? The next few weekends are pretty tight but I could get it there in July. What do you think?

I must just be lucky but I could be a poster boy for Metzler. I've been running ME880s for a couple years and the most recent are the Alphas. I'm on my 4th rear and second front. The rears have averaged 20k and the front made it to 50k before had to change it. The last rear had 18k before I changed and I had pulled 2 nails out of it during the 18k with the first at 3k. The tire never failed or delaminated. Performance has been outstanding throughout. I do check pressure twice a week or before a longer than normal ride. (I commute 100 miles / day) I keep the front at 38psi and the rear at 39psi. Both sidewalls give the max at 40psi. I have no explanation but I mentioned it to my tire guy the last time I bought a tire and he said that it may be old rubber. He didn't know but he did say that he had people bring tires in to him all the time they had bought themselves for mounting and the rubber was frequently what he would consider old. I call him about a week in advance when I change and he orders the tire for me. I know he will refuse delivery of anything he doesn't consider new rubber. I'm no tire expert but that's the best explanation I've had for my appearent success with all the failures I keep hearing about. I certainly hope my luck holds because I love the tire.

I've just started to notice a backfire when I downshift hard. I haven't done anything to the carbs so I thought it mights have something to do with that. Can this generally be fixed by syncing?

I've been watching this thread like so many others. It seems like most of the people who are for CT look more at mileage than performance and those that are against them are looking at performance. I ride a 1st Gen because of the performance. People talk about dragging boards and that's exactly why I like the 1st Gen, no boards to drag. It sounds like the CT is fine if you're into straight lines and relaxed rides but I would still be pretty uncertain trying to push the edge on a CT. I guess the true test would be to put a CT on a sport bike and see what it would do but wouldn't want to be the one doing the testing. I keep telling my wife that my hair isn't on fire anymore but she says it's still smoldering pretty good so I guess I'll stick with a MT on my 1st Gen until I see someone on a rocket put a CT through it's paces. That's probably what it would take to convince me. I sure hope you guys with the CT are right. I don't want to read about any of you if you know what I mean.

I'll stick with MC tires. If I wanted to take it easy in the twisties I'd buy a 2nd Gen. :rotf:

Visible and predictable!! You need to always think about what's going to happen around you. If you are riding in two way traffic and you ride to the right you will not be seen by the oncomming traffic and this will prompt more instances of left turns in front of you. You should always stay to the left so oncomming can see your headlight. In multiple lane traffic like an Interstate lane positioning will depend on the lane and who is most likely to change lanes into you. You should always try to stay in one of the outside lanes so you have the emergency lane to move into if someone comes over on you. You should then position yourself for greatest visibility. If you're in the far right lane then you should be to the left and if you're in the far left lane then you should be to the right. That puts you square in the side mirror of the cage that would be most likely to move over on you. The only exception is in a left curve because you will be out of the field of view no matter where you are. Then you may want to move to the left through the curve and reposition once you straighten out. In a group ride the point should always be to the left. That positions the point where it should be for the two way traffic. In multiple lane traffic lane changes should be coordinated with the sweep rider anyway and the second rider will still have the attention of the cage to the right if you're all the way to the left. I ride 100 miles day in Atlanta Interstate traffic and this had served me very well. I've never had much trouble when the cagers know I'm there. (A$$ holes excluded of coarse)

Air Leak Following a Trailer Ride??
loehring replied to RidingArk's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had something similar last week. I ride solo most of the time but last week I took my some out. He weighs about 140lbs. so I increased the pressure a little and we had a great ride. When I went to reset I noticed a "0" reading on the forks. I went ahead and increased it but it happened again the next time I checked it. That time I went ahead and release all the pressure and auto filled the forks to the low setting. It's held that pressure for a week now. Really strange. The rear wasn't effected at all. I think it was a gremlin. -

Trouble with which socket?

If the bikes toast I hope he can still get a piece for The Tree of Shame. It's tradition.

Hey Rooster, is this for full or liability? I'm probably moving to FL in a year and I will need to change insurance if Progressive jacks the rates.
-
I have never seen the video but I would love to. This sounds like a lot of fun and pretty challenging. I'm going to have to get one. I am curious though, just exactly how does all this help you at 80 on the Interstate? I don't do a lot of "parking lot tours". Is there information on higher speed riding?
-
I have Progressive. It's liability only on my '89 but it's $135/year. I've never had a claim but I couldn't beat the rate.

I have the most recent update for the Garmin Zumo but with the pace of some of the road building in the Atlanta area there is no way it will be perfect. I figure if Google Maps doesn't have it I can't be too hard on Garmin. I would love to see a monthly updateable map. Maybe an unual subscription rather than an anual purchase of a CD.

I have the Rivco on my '89 and love it. Great investment. I got mine off ebay about 18 months ago.
