I think the pictures are public domain. Google Earth has the same one. Same time of year with the same cars in the drive in the same places. It lists the image date as March of 2006. It is cool that we can see so much detail though.

2009 RSV Top Heavy Question
loehring replied to DonWood's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Don, from what I understand the leveling links will raise the bike about an inch. Be sure that doesn't effect you. I don't know how tall you are. I haven't changed a thing on my '07. I have Avon tires that are th stock size. This is a big, heavy bike but she handles just fine at slow speeds once you spend some time on her. As a RC for the Patriot Guard I spend quite a bit of time a low speeds and I can tell you honestly this bike handles as well as any other. It's the rider not the bike. You're just not comfortable yet and that's no big deal. Just remember she's a lady. Ignore her and she'll be very difficult but spend quality time with her and she'll teat you right. -
I wouldn't let it get to you. They pay twice as much for half the bike. That's justice in itself. I have a close friend who rides a Road King. I have NEVER let him live down the day we had to trailer it home. I now refer to it as his Trailer King. He's trying to sell it to "move up" to an Ultra Classic. I asked him why he wanted an Ultra Fixit. I have a set of Baron 4-2-4 pipes on my RSMV. He says it sounds more like a NASCAR than a bike. We rag eachother constantly but it's all in good fun. Wing riders think only a Wing is a great bike. Harley riders think only a Harley and BMW riders think only a Beemer. Regardless of what they ride, a true biker understands that the bike you ride is personal and it just doesn't matter. It's all about the ride. If they're joking around, who cares. If they're serious, pitty them because they just don't get it.

Very Interested!! Is it possible to make them out of a "leather look"? I ride 365 and so I tend to get wet a lot. I hesitate to use real leather because of that. Let us know and I think there are quite a few who would be interested.

I hope I can make it up to meet all of you. I grew up in Toronto and London, Ont. My last trip to Canada on the bike was 22 years ago. We rode the Blueridge Pkwy from Cherokee all the way to Front Royal then back across and into Canada at Windsor. Great ride. You all will love the roads in NC. -
I know it's the right thing for some but I'm just not a trike person. They aren't available yet but the closest thing I've seen for me would be this site: www.flytheroad.com At least here you get to lean like a bike. I could see this as a poor weather alternative. (Or if you had to wear a suit).

I have Baron 4-2-4s and I love them. There is a bolt on top of the pipes that attaches to a brace just under the saddle bags. I always take them off so I can get to the bolt easily. I don't know if you can do it with the bags on. I've never tried.

I wish I could be there but welcome to the US from the sunny south.

Distractions will kill you faster than anything else. Just a momentary lapse is sometimes all it takes. Please be safe all. Pay attention. (I'm talking to myself as well.)

Royal Star Venture questions......
loehring replied to tibadoe's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'll tell you one thing tibedoe, if your wife gets on a Venture you will be stuck. I've ridden Ultras, Wings and now the RSV and there is no comparrison as far as my wife is concerned. She loves everything about it from the looks to the ride. My auto mechanic just sold his '07 Wing and bought an '09 RSV. He doesn't regret it. This is the 5th bike I've owned and I can honestly say it's the best bike I've ever owned. I know there are a lot of people who swear by FI but I like to do most of my own work so I'm happy with the carbs. I know them and can work on them. If you decide to buy one I'm pretty sure you'll be glad you did. -
Narrow Front Tire?
loehring replied to craigatcsi's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Craigr, just think about your riding. Where and what speed do you spend most of your time? If it's in parking lots or at very low speed get a narrow tire. If it's on the highway, stay with a wider more stable tire. For me it's a no brainer. For every mile I spend in a parking lot I probably spend 750 milkes on the highway. As a Ride Captain with the PGR I think I can speak from a lot of 'low speed' experience and I'll be honest, you can learn to handle low speeds with just a little practice with low speed principals. (friction zone clutch and trail braking) I'm only 5'10", 195 lbs so if I can do it anyone can. Don't sacrifice your riding comfort for the odd parking lot. My .02 -
Service warranties are good but they tend to come with some pretty pricey legal fees. I have some friends who actually had to give theirs to other people and they're STILL making payments.

Look at the bright side. Every time you have to work on your bike you simply get to know her a little better. It's a relationship thing.

I have to say that I've never had any issues with the PGR group I ride with. 20 years ago I rode a Wing but never affiliated with any groups. After a 17 year leave from riding (Doing the Father thing) I started back on an '89 Venture. I loved the bike and got involved with the PGR. Over the past 4 years I have never seen anyone put down for what they rode with that group. I think the difference is that with a group like PGR you have patriots who are there for something other thnan a social event. If they ride they tend to be what I would consider "bikers". They love the ride and have a kindred spirit with anyone who understands that. It doesn't matter what you ride, just that you do. The issue I've seen with some of these other groups that revolve around the type of machine you have is that they seem to be social groups that just happen to ride. They really don't understand. Many of them are lucky to put 1000 miles on their bikes in any given year. I personally have very little time for these types and have no problem just walking away from the "conversation" because it rarely involves the ride or the bikes other than their "bling". I would like to say thank you to every person in this group. Unlike so many others, you all understand. I can't tell you how refreshing that is. That's why I've stayed for the past few years and why I will continue to support this group.

I wish that would make it on US TV.

These are what you're hearing about. I have a switch to turn them on and off but I just leave them on. They aren't connected to the high beam at all. (Sorry, it won't let me upload the pic.)

If you're referring to the one in OH I would love to but I can't take that much time away at this point. It would be a fun road trip though.

What mufflers are you running
loehring replied to Deacon's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Baron 4-2-4 Nasty Boys are it baby!! I could be just a little bias. (But then you did say you didn't want loud. I guess they won't qualify.) -
Prayers offered from Buford. Hopefully it will be better than expected.

The wife thought of it, the more you looked at it the more you liked it. That's all that needs to be said. If she's smilin' you're ridin' rather than cuttin' grass. VERY smart man. (Yes dear, I'm comming.)

The problem with the hard reset mentioned is that you may lose a lot, if not all personal data. Removing the battery will maintain all you personal data. The hard reset goes through a formatting function to reset things to factory defaults. That should actually be tried if the battery removal doesn't work. (This is per Garmin Tech Support not my IT knowledge.)

GAThumper is right. Any picture you have loaded on your Zumo can be designated as the "Splash Screen". It is only that though. You'll see it in place of the "Garmin" screen when you turn it on and that's all. After that everything works the same. The pages are no different regardless. The only other time the splash screen is visible is when you are connected to your computer via USB.
