  1. They are big bikes! They are known for having some problem with gearing but I can't remember what it was. It seemed that if it goes bad they can lock up. I bought one to flip and I had the carbs rebuilt. It the breather box boot was a bear to get back on the carbs. I worked for two days with great frustration and finally a mechanic friend came over and in two minutes had it on!! Like many said, great bikes, parts very hard to find - and the Cavalcade forum is a must!!!
  2. here is the before
  3. I have a couple in my church that's been asking me to buy their Suzuki GS 450 for the past couple of years so went out and bought it for $100. It has been sitting for at least 10 years and I expected the tank to be rusty - it isn't. It ran when it was parked so it should be an interesting project or I will resale. I will try to post a picture they sent me and one after I power washed it.
  4. I wish Road Stars had cruise! I am partial to the blue. I have them both listed at $8500 and will sell either one. The red 2009 yamaha Road Star has only 2350 miles. Tank was repainted due to rock chip. I have a windshield, crash bar and pegs coming. The blue 08 Road Star has 16500 miles. It is nice to have a choice!
  5. Got the 09 Road Star. Now I have to decide which one to keep!
  6. I bet if you offered 9999.99 you would be riding away!!!
  7. Here is the Red One I'm going after. I have the studded seat set, a crash bar, and other goodies to dress it up. The blue is the one I ride.
  8. Not sure on the gas mileage. I remember checking last year but I am now old and don 'to remember. I don't much about mileage as I consider my bikes a toy. Jeff, that's not fair! I only had 4 bikes last summer! I bought this new one to pass on unless some one makes a good offer on my 08! I go after the bike on Saturday.
  9. I couldn't help myself! Saw a nice 09 Road Star with 2500 miles at a great price so I bought it. Now I have a blue 08 and a red 09!
  10. A lot of Road Star guys use Harley lowers. Most of them use a Harley Crash bar they modify to fit their bikes then the lowers will work. You might check out the Road Star forum as well. Good luck and if you figure something be sure to share it with others!
  11. I have a set I took off my bike with amp that I will sell you for $40 plus shipping. Worked well but I don't like the looks. Can't remember the brand but I can look this weekend.
  12. I also watch the prices on Road Stars and am amazed at the prices. My son got an 05 Road Star with very low miles, had been in Vtwin magazine as it was customized for less than 5 grand. I am glad someone got a good deal on the Tour Deluxe. I was going to buy it just to resale to make a few hundred bucks so it wasn't a big deal. People are going to have to ignore Blue Book prices and start being realistic on what the market is bringing and the market on motorcycles is flooded with great deals on used bikes.
  13. I was close, I was in Pella! Does that count?
  14. I called a guy who had an 06 Tour Deluxe with 14000 miles on it and he was asking $4500. He was to send me pictures besides there ones on Craigslist. I thought about it and called him back 15 minutes later and in that time he had a guy coming to look at it and the guy bought it. I know he would have taken $4200 if I had pulled the trigger on my first call. I hope someone on this forum ended up with this bike. The price was right!
  15. Yeah, I can forgive him but they still said it was all his fault! At least he is willing to take responsibility. He will just have to ride up here so I can buy him a Dilly Bar!
  16. I went through Osky today and asked someone about it closing and they did say it was all your fault........
  17. Our snow is almost gone! Finally! When I told my wife I was looking at it she said, "why don't you find a motorcycle to work on?" Gotta love her!
  18. I will see, I am looking at it the afternoon
  19. It has an 8 track!
  20. I always seem to need a summer project so I am looking at a 1976 Olds Toronado tomorrow! It is a beast and has a great body and interior. It has been sitting for awhile so the brakes don't work but other than that it looks decent. I can get it cheap which is good as they don't bring much on the market. Anyone have any experience with this beast? It has a 455 in it with only 250 hp! I am sure it drinks gas!
  21. I have found that Amazon has some of the best prices on Motorcycle parts and if you have prime shipping is often free and fast.
  22. Wow, I guess I shouldn't be quite so shocked at the overwhelming number of people who are in favor of legalization. I am a bit surprised. As a product of the 60's I watched my hippie sister get stoned enough that it didn't look fun, so I never tried it. She also influenced me so also that at the age of 61 I have never tasted beer! Getting stoned or high never has appealed to me as I want to keep as many senses as I can. My memory is bad enough. My problem is what illegal substance gets socially accepted next to the point of making it the next legal drug due to social pressure. I don't know. I choose not to drink simply because I don't need it. As a pastor I can quote a ton of Bible texts about taking care of the body and being pure while I stuff myself with Oreo cookies and a glass of milk! All things are to be done in moderation but some of us can't stop with one Oreo. Obviously, the majority of Americans are okay with legalization of pot. Personally, I oppose legalization but respect others who feel otherwise.
  23. I took a couple of weeks off to come down to Weslaco to watch my grandson play basketball. I saw the first of 5 games I will get to see last night and he is a pretty good player. He played less than a half and scored 15 points and had quite a few steals. They won easily thus the small playing time. My wife calls to let me know they have a -22 windchill in Iowa today... Like I said, "I am enjoying Texas!" Wish I had my Roadstar but it wouldn't fit on the plane!
  24. To me the RSTD was less top heavy and way easier to maneuver in town.
