  1. Sorry to hear the news of Pastor Paul's death. It is a great loss to his family and friends. As a faithful servant of our Lord he now has the reward he has looked forward to for many years. I am saddened by his death but rejoice that he lives in eternity with Christ. Victory is his!
  2. Mike, we all have horrible days and understand. Mine was Saturday when I let the guy who bought the scooter use my truck to take it home and it must have blown the head gasket but he kept driving and toasted the engine! UGH! It was the day after I used up my reserve funds for the down payment on my 2010 Voyager! Post your question on motor swap in a new thread and you will get the answers you need. To encourage you to stick with this forum I would pay your membership fee for the first year.
  3. Mike, Sorry to read that you had to go the whole different motor route. I was hoping it would be a less expensive fix for you. Don't give up so easily on this forum. I have had members call me with good advice to help me through. The friendships I have here I value and I keep coming back even when I am not riding a Royal Star. The advice of starting a new thread is right on as people don't have time to follow all the new ones and keep up with the old. Hang around and you will fall in love with this place!
  4. I should have typed IPod!
  5. I picked up my 2010 Voyager yesterday and rode 90 miles home. It is a nice bike that handled great. It was cool and windy but I was well protected behind the faring. I love the attached faring which makes it more nimble than my RSV. The radio is awesome and came with the iPad adapter with controls for the iPad on the handlebars. I need to get used to the gearing with the 6 speed overdrive. The V-twin isn't as smooth as the 1300. The concern about exhaust heat doesn't bother me as the Harley's I haves owned were the same. It is a beautiful bike. I had my mind set on an 08 Venture in Illinois but after riding the Voyager decided to give it a chance. BTW: If anyone is looking for a beautiful 08 Venture there is one in Decatur, Il.
  6. Buying it with that knowledge but buying it at a price that if I don't like it then it becomes an easy sale and another money maker.
  7. Headed to Weslaco! I hope to stay off interstate and enjoy the ride!
  8. I had my eyes on a beautiful 08 RSV and was ready to go after it in another state when I came across a sweet deal on a 2010 Voyager locally. Made a verbal commitment with the owner on my approval after seeing the bike. The local dealer even said it was a great deal after I stopped by today to check out a 2012 they have marked down. My goal was to get a Venture or another touring bike to ride to my son's wedding in Texas this summer. I did okay on the 96 Royal Star with the bent valve. Through a bit of bartering I have a nice down payment on my new bike! I can't wait to be razed by Jeff and Mike............. I will post pictures when I get the bike!
  9. Sold the wing! Another one bites the dust!
  10. I traded my non running 96 Tour for an 82 Wing I plan to resale. I have my eye on an 08 RSV. Anyway it has the removable bags that look like suitcases. I can pull the pin up but it doesn't release either bag. How does one remove them? Thanks
  11. Forgot, I can't do Sundays - it is the only day of the week I work!
  12. Welcome to the Forum Mike! I hope it is an easy fix for you and makes a nice ride. I have my eye on a couple of Tour Deluxes and Ventures. Hopefully I will have one in time for the Rally in Galena. Our daughter was appointed this week as the Manager of the Galena and will be moving there soon!
  13. Decided this is way beyond my abilities so I found a local mechanic to dig into it. I will be taking it to him next week.
  14. My saga of the stuck engine continues! My wife likes it that I have a project to work on! Anyway - it sticks when the right front piston hits top dead center and you can hear it hit. So, I pulled the valve cover off - and now need to know the next step. Is there an easy way to check for a broken valve spring? Do I need to pull the head? I'm willing to keep tearing into it - I have nothing to lose at this point - but need a road map. Thanks for all the suggestions and help so far.
  15. I am probably over cautious on such things. I have some mechanic friends I would call on for such an adventure!
  16. Rebuilding heads and stuff isn't something I am comfortable doing. I don't have a clue who could rebuild them or what the cost will be. If it is just a broken valve spring I will give it a shot. Any thoughts on expense for all this stuff. I might be best buying one of the engines off EBay and not have to worry about tearing things apart. Thanks for the suggestions.
  17. I am going to pull the valve cover off this week and see if I see anything. When I turn it over by hand I can hear the piston hit as it comes to a dead stop. I assume I will need to pull the motor to remove the head. This is turning into quite an ordeal!
  18. Did a scope and came to the conclusion that the exhaust valve isn't quite closing completely. The piston hits the exhaust valve on both intake and exhaust stroke. Might be carbon or something else.
  19. Thanks for the offer! I have a guy in my church who is a f16 mechanic and he he bringing me one in the morning!
  20. Hooked up starter and it will turn it over. I will work on it tomorrow and see what happens
  21. I have been turning my engine over with a socket and it free spins until the right front piston reaches top dead center. At that point I have to useable breaker bar to rotate 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch and then it spins freely. It seems the more I turn it over the easier it gets but I will be in the nursing home by the time it is totally free! I have the starter out so I haven't tried it with the starter. Anyone ever face this before or suggestions?
  22. Got it freed up....it is catching a bit when right front piston is at top dead center so I will keep turning it over by hand hoping to get it completely freed up. Thanks to Mike for the help!
