I do feel the size of the bike helped tremendously in helping me survive the crash. The pure bulk of the bike absorbed most of the impact and I feel protected me. In my opinion, Yamaha did a great job in the design of the Venture in rider safety. It also helped that I had full protective gear to include gloves, leather jacket, and chaps. I did only have a half helmet, so when I get back on a bike, I am going to have to rethink wearing a full-face. There isn't a scratch on my face, but I know the outcome would be the same with a full-face, and I can't say that with a half helmet. Ben

saw the bike yesterday, pictures dont do it justice....also went to the scene, seeing my body outline was erry....starting the emotional closure now. dad found us 2 goldwings in arkansas, i almost threw up!!!!! duke, the forks look like tin foil... thanks for all the prayers... ben

Duke, if I could get the parts for you, you know I would but for some reason I don't think they can be taken off. Anybody got a nice midnight for sale??? Scribed by mom! And I thank you for your well wishes and especially prayers. Ben was just the copilot on this day. The size of his bike and his "attire" were both a huge plus in this accident but we know that God was the one in control. To see the actual impact when it happened, (Ben's dad and I were the third of four bikes on this ride) the "explosion" of bike and car parts and Ben going up in the air was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed. Once I determined I could get up and that my husband's only issue was his ankle, I couldn't get to Ben fast enough. Ben, lying face down on the pavement with arms looking like a contortionist (sp?) had these first words to say "Is everyone okay? Where's dad? Is he okay? Where's Daniel? Is he okay? Where's Michael?" Worried about everyone else. That's my boy! He says he remembers the impact but doesn't remember the landing. I say thank you God for that! Ben thinks a lot of each of you and is anxious to stay in touch, he is just not able to at this time. We will try to keep you updated though!

Made it home from the hospital last night (wife is typing for me). Still in a considerable amount of pain, but up and about on my feet. I have already started the process of looking for a new bike (with airbags!!, wife added that part) What can I say? I am a trooper! Just remember, to ALWAYS wear your helmet, and remind your friends to do the same. Here are a couple of shots of the bike. http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs494.snc3/26972_1362195648803_1048940196_31078560_6669339_n.jpg http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs514.snc3/26972_1362195688804_1048940196_31078561_5535339_n.jpg http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs494.ash1/26972_1362196048813_1048940196_31078568_5826999_n.jpg Ben

yesterday while out on a ride with my dad brother in law and a friend a young lady felt the need to pass the car in front of her without checking for on coming traffic. with less than 30 yards between us she hit me dead center of my front tire launching me over her nissan maxima. i was going roughly 50 mph her closer to 60. i cant be sure but i would bet she was on her cell phone. i was takeenn by helicopter to the medical university of south carolina where i've had surgery on both my arms to fix breaks fractures an dislocations. other than my arms, there is not a scratch on me. the Lord was riding 2 up with me yesterday. my dad suffered a broken ankle and the loss of his treasured harley. my mom who was riding with him walked away with just a sprained knee. my brother in law has a broken wrist and minor internal bleeding. its not known yet if his honda cbr is totaled tho it more than likely is. my friend went down but was able to ride his bike for a check_up. my 2004 midnight rsv is a total loss. when i asked what it looked like my father in law said it looked like somebody had died on it. the only parts that i could get off it were the trailer hitch and gps. thank you very much for all the thoughts and prayers and hopefully ya'll will accept me in a cage at the meet in eats until i can get two wheels under me. the doctors are saying 6 weeks minimum until i have the use of my arms. God Bless everyone an stay safe out there. Ben (Gamecock)

I have a non-smoking double queen room booked at the Comfort Inn for June 18 and 19 for Maintenance Day. I was looking to see if anyone would like to split the room with me? Cost should be about $85 for the 2 nights. Send me a PM or respond to this thread. Ben

Mini, He should Fed-Ex it home once he gets it going and you can ride it to Maintenence Day! Ben

Sounds like it's gonna be a BIG OLE PARTY at the Comfort Inn that night! :dancefool: Ben
-
Dang Duke, you should have let me know. Now we both got rooms booked! Not that you wanted to share anyway! Ben

I had been planning on camping, but I am not a fan of it being hot outside so I booked a room at the Comfort Inn (739 Leona Street, Elyria). I can cancel up until 4 PM on Friday June 18 if I change my mind and decide to camp. I have a room (non-smoking) booked with 2 queen beds for $85 a night (tax included). If someone staying both nights is interested (18th and 19th) in splitting the cost I will make firm plans to utilize the hotel instead of camping. Just shoot me a PM and we can firm things up. Ben PS I don't snore and hopefully you can't wake the dead with yours!

Great looking horse. That's one of my wife's hobbies, I don't do the dooo thing, I'd rather change oil. We have 65 acres in SC that she plans to fill up with horses when we move home. Ben

Checked my mileage today.....I got 165.9 on 4 gallons today. I had 3 bars left when I filled up, and I know it was slam full when I started out. I couldn't pass Sam's without getting gas as it's 25 cents cheaper than by my house. Looks like I had another 2 gallons left and roughly 80 miles, though I would say 70 being conservative. Not bad, 41.5 MPG's. Good info to know about the light coming on at 1.5 gallons left. I know one thing, the bike WILL cut off on you going up a hill with the gas light on and NOT being on reserve. How do I know this? First hand experience! I leaned the bike over and got popped in the back of the head by the boss! Ben

Anyone on here work in Crystal City, VA? I rode the bike into work Tuesday night and low and behold there was a RSV parked 4 spots down from mine on Crystal Drive Wednesday morning. It was still pretty dark outside so I couldn't tell the color. It was our 2 RSV's and about 6 Harley Electra Glides. I didn't realize the size difference in the two bikes until I saw the one parked beside mine. The Harley looked puny! If I don't get a reply on this, I am gonna put a flyer for VR.org on his bike if I see it again! Gotta get the word out right? Ben
