  1. Well still have my problems but did find out when I start to drive the bike it will go when the choke is on but still back fires some. But hey I got it to move lol. It sure sounds good sitting still but still sucks when you try to go because you can't. Also on my other venture it does about the same must be a venture problem have the choke on halfway and you can drive off but yeah I know thats a bad idea. Well you can't blame a guy for trying might get that cookout going sometime this summer. Meatloaf:buttkick:
  2. Hey was wondering if anyone knew a price for the chrome rotar covers with the light on it and the price on the chrome part that goes over the brake cylinder behind the the rotars on the handlebars. Both are ventureline parts from 1st gen. I know they are hard to get. Thx, Meatloaf:banana:
  3. I got the slider for the carb to work, I opened the side and pushed it. The mechanic replaced the tci because the bike would not start but he found the real problem there It was water in the relay behind the headlight. It was not allowing it to make a connection between the relay that works the kick stand went to the kick stand. When he cleaned the water out it started. Now the problem is the carbs.. So who knows what it is now i changed the wires and all I could do. Meatloaf:headache:
  4. Well as you know my bike wouldn't start and now it is starting (see spark problem). Well I spent 2 days putting the bike and all the equipment back together. So I was so happy I started it right up and all I could hear was back firing and it was noisy. So I said to myself it's been sitting a month so it might need running down the road. Well that didn't work when I tried to give it gas and go the rpms would go down and the bike won't go so I pushed it back home. I looked down in the carbs as saw one of them was not moving so I took off the cover and pused it a little so it would work. I also put carb cleaner down in it. Well all the carbs were moving again but man was it popping alot and loud. It would idle great at 3rpm but when you went to 4 rpms the bike wanted to cut off and drop down to 1 rpm. The 2 carbs on the left side when you are sitting down on the bike we popping bad and fire would come out of them when you reved it. At 4 rpm the front carb would spudder and fire would come out of it and the compression would drop. When I tried to give it more gas the back carb would also do it and if you gave it more gas the bike would stall out. I called my mechanic and he said it sounded like the plug wires might be bad and I might to replace them well I did that and there was no change. So I gave up it's mechanic fault but I spent 650.00 to get the bike so it would start and now it doesn't run. The bike sounds great at 3 rpms but when you go to 4rpms the carb sliders start moving and it starts to back firing and the bike won't move. Am getting tired of this so if anyone wants to but 2 86 ventures loaded with chrome and all the extras will sell both of them for 3,500.00 I am tired of spending money since most of the mechanics know nothing on how to fix ventures. I will just ride my vw trike it easier to fix and I am not that motorcycle savy mechanic. Meatloaf:sick:
  5. Well after a time my mechanic called up and he told me the problem. This is for anyone who ever has this problem it won't cost you 650.00 bucks. Well it seems the blue wire behind the headlight which I am told is the relay that works the kickstand. Well it seems there was a drop of water between the relay which I am told is a good conductor. Seems the drop was between where the relay closes thus not letting them connect and make contact. So when he cleaned the relay (water drop) the bike started right up and is running. So if this happens check and make sure it doesn't have water between the connector or it could cost you alot for a little. And I would like to thank my mechanic Hank for finding the needle in the haystack. Hope this helps everyone else. Also thanks to all my fellow venture riders for helping we are a great group and very helpful to one another. And a big thanks to Earl. Meatlaof:dancefool:
  6. Thanks for all the replies so here is my update we tried all the answers from everyone and am sad to say it did't work. This is what I just got from my mechanic who is a great guy and awesome mechanic. The coils are not being allowed to discharge. They are building voltage and not allowing to fire, which is causing the secondary tower to get fried. There is no spec for the plug wires (which could be a cause, very unlikely for all of them to fail at the same time). The only thing that controls the coil is the TCI unit and the p/u coils(that tested good). He said he is back to square one and now we have no ides whats going on with it. If anyone has any ideas please let me know and thanks for all the help so far. Guess my next step might be to have to part it out on ebay and I hate to do that. Meatloaf
  7. Oh man don';t get me started on metzler tires. I had my rear tire on my 86 venture bubble out and the tire split on the way to ashville,nc with my wife. I rode it to a yamaha dealership flat because a harley dealership 6 miles away would not tough anything but a harley go figure. I was told by the mechanic that the tire was defective. Since I was loaded with luggage and my wife I did not take the tire with me so the dealership said they would take care of it. I only had the tire 4 months. It had maybe 500 miles on it. My wife took alot of pictures of the tire on the bike and off the bike. The bad thing was the only tire they had for my venture was another metzler go figure so they cut 35.00 off it. So I paid 259.00 in the end the same price I paid for the same tire and repair 4 months ago. I called metzler about what happened and asked that I would like to be reinburst fot the 259.00 for the one I just had changed after 6 hours of waiting on my vacation ot have it changed. I told them I was not asking for the 259.00 for 4 months ago with the other metzler. They asked do you have the tire and I told them no that I had nowhere to put it and I would call the dealer in ashville to see if they still had it and the dealer said no they trahed it. I called metzler back and told them that and that I also had the original receipt from 4 months ago and had lots of pictures. They said NO if we don't have the tire then their is nothing we can do for me. I said you have to be kidding and they said no and sent me a 2 page e-mail about the policy of retuning a tire. Wow I never got that 2 page letter when I bought the tire guess it has to be defective first before all the policies come out that you never read or knew about. Well they said sorry no tire it was my tough luck and I told them I would let everyone know about metzler motorcycle tires and they told me their lawyers would be watching me. I was told later by my firend that they had just started making the tires in Brazil not the US anymore. DON'T BUY METZLER TIRES! I thank God I wasn't killed I know I rode 4 hours on that tire until I got gas and heard the thump thump and looked at the tire. I guess big companies don't have to answer to us little bikers. I did keep all their e-mails so it reminds me to never buy another on of their tires! Meatloaf
  8. I have a 86 venture and the problem is I can't get spark returning to the spark plugs. Myself and Dokon have replaced the coils, plugs, the tips on the wire into the plugs, I think it is called the ignition coils ( what goes under the battery box that the coils plug into). We have tried everything it seems we get spark going on but coiming out we get nothing so the bike won't start. Took it to my bike mechanic and he again replaced the coils which I told him I already replaced. He told me that was the problem since no spark was coming down to the plugs. Well he fried the replaced ignitor box and I guess the circuit box in it. He is now stumped and said he doesn't know what it might be and I might have to use it as a part bike. Go figure I only have 100,000 miles on it so I am asking if anyone has had this problem I don't want to park my bike out I love it. He said they only other thing it might be is a bad short on the bike somewhere. Thx, Meatloaf:crying:
  9. I will tell Deacon Dan about the short or the fuse box. I myself have the new fuse box. I and Dana put in the fuse box that squidley made so mine might not be the problem. But on mine I know I did not have this problem until Dana and I put the capasitor on the wire to the battery to make the light go out since I had no place to put the battery indicator plug in the battery, got tired of the red light staying on. And the only other thing Dana and I did was to solder the indicator control box and put it back in the bike. Not sure if either one of those are the problem but it never did it until that time frame. Thx, Meatloaf
  10. Well this has been going on for a month or so. My onboard computer that shows the checklist when you start the bike up goes on and off on me when am I am riding which causes the bike not to show the temp guage,if it's charging, how much gas,no blinkers,no brake lights, and no dash lights. It has never done this before and the only thing we did is Dana resodered the indicator module for the cold broken soder spots. Deacon Dan has the same 86 venture as mine and his has the same problem his checklist comes up but not all the time his also goes on and off. To add more his fuse box is real hot to the touch. I got the spare module from Dana and put it on mine and it never cut off but it gave a false reading on the gas amount and the gas picture would stay up. I just think it's wierd that the 2 bikes have the same problem. Oh yeah then I put the one that we got from Dana that I had put in my bike to test and it had the same problem it had in mine false gas reading and gas light staying on. Also the computer would come on and go through the check list but would come off and on when it felt like it. So does anyone know or have an idea whats going on with 2 bikes having the same issues to the panel cutting on and off for no apparent reason? Myself,Dana and Deacon Dan are lost we think it might be the control module not sure whats it is called but does the checkup on the items when you turn the bike on. I was thinking that might be it but why does both cut off and on for no reason. Any ideas or if you selling a comp module well 2 of them let me know. Meatloaf:sick:
