Hey naturbar . . . nice bike. I just purchased an '06 RSTD with Venture trunk and great Corbin seat. I notice your bike has a windshield fairing. Where does one go to get one of those? Does it replace the OEM windshield without complicated modifications. I'm seeking guidance if you have the time. Thanks. kingtut -

Actually, I didn't drop the pressure to zero in the front forks. When my mechanic went to do so, we found that they were already at zero. Apparently the first owner had them that way. I've put several hundred miles on the bike since purchasing it and have not felt any bottoming out on bumps either before or after adding the rear lowering kit. Mind you, I stick to paved roads, but on the normal bumps one encounters (including speed bumps) I have experienced no banging at all. Also, since adding the Barons rear lowering kit I have experienced no adverse effects on the maneuverability of the bike . . . in fact, to the contrary, the handling seems as good if not better especially with the lower center of gravity.

Oh, I am not that familiar with the Tour Delux. Wish it had worked for you. However, the flanders bars are better than the risers for pullback. That is a modification I would like to do to mine, but would need to at least see it done first. My mechanical skills are not what I trust to change out lines etc. without at least having some hands on experience. You might try the smaller tire on front, several of the folks on here have done that and seem to be happy with it. The tire change sounds like it might be worth trying. Got an exact size you'd recommend? I'll see if I can find anything on the forum too. Thanks.

Silverdeer . . . with the rains close at hand we'll probably have to wait until Spring. But there's a great circle ride around Mt. St. Helen's on some made-for-motorcycles roads with a connection back to I-5 at a restaurant known nationally for its pies. By Spring you should be laughing with Dr. Atkins. Let's touch base then.

Thanks for the response, Jerry. I see that you ride a RSV. The risers that work for that will not work for the RSTD. The speedo on the TD sits right on top of the triple tree and is held on by a bracket connected to the top of the front forks. With risers, the speedo would have to be lifted up (however high the risers are), leaving a gap between the speedo housing and the bracket which it could no longer be connected to. Apparently it's a different set up with the Venture, upper fairing and all. So on the advice of several members of this forum, I just purchased a Flanders G2 handlebar (650-08763) which is both cheaper than risers and will give me at least another two inches of pullback. tsigwing wrote that he fit this bar on his '05 RSTD using existing cables and it gave him what he needed in pullback. I hoping it works identically on my '06. It should. Peaceful cruising.

I've got the same bars on my 05 and didn't buy any new cables. You can re-route your existing ones no problem. You will have to drill a small hole for your throttle housing with the new bars and your existing bar end weights won't work. Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear the stock throttle cable will work on the Tour Deluxe. Apparently all the extra stuff up front on the Venture precludes that as several RSV members have reported needing a longer cable. I'll only order the G2 bar and do the re-routing thing. Sounds like you haven't had any binding problems on tight turns. Did you stick with the stock grips? I really like the Kury ISO grips and there's lots of good stuff on this forum about alternative end weights.

Since discovering that apparently no risers are available that work with a 2006 RSTD (because the speedo is located right over the stock risers and putting higher risers on would life it up and beyond the mounting bracket), various riders on VentureRider.com have convinced me that the Flanders G2 handlebar is the way to go. Not only will they give me a longer pullback, but they're $145 less expensive than the Star risers my local Yamaha dealer told me were supposed to work. At any rate, all things point to needing a longer throttle cable to go with the Flanders bar. My question is: how long a cable should be ordered and where can I get the best deal on one. A part number and online store would be great if anyone knows. Hoping someone has this info . . . thanks in advance.

Thanks to Long_Black_Train I obtained his Barons Lowering Kit BA-7530-00 (he's switching to a trike rear end) and had it installed today. Just getting me 1.5" closer to the ground has made a great difference in my comfort level when stopped. I did not put a lowering kit on the front (pricey!) but bled the air in the forks to zero. While I've only gone several miles since, I was not aware of any noticeable difference in handling. Feels fine to me. Thanks to all who gave good counsel . . . and again to LongBlackTrain in Oklahoma for his helping to facilitate this good move.

This forum has already proved that its worth its weight in gold. Not only have I had a lot of very helpful counsel regarding my new RSTD, but I got to meet a super guy in the form of silverdeer0454. He came up with exactly the pipes I was looking for, and added the benefit of his fine company over breakfast as the transfer was made. I know a lot of you out there like loud pipes, but I wish to maintain the goodwill of my neighbors . . . plus whatever is left of my USMC-damaged (I was in demolitions) hearing. My fellow citizens now smile as I go buy, no doubt at the beauty of both the bike and the muffled sound. Thanks, Silverdeer. Hope we can put on a few miles together one of these days. Kingtut

Thanks to all who replied with suggestions. Yamaha Online Technical Manuals has the 06 RSTD owner's manual . . . but is out of stock. Who knows how long (if ever) before they get new ones. One replier said check the "tech manuals at the bottom of the main page" to download manuals. Can't seem to find the link on the homepage. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Looking for an owner manual for my 2006 RSTD. Also would like a Clymers, but they seem to only go up to 2003. Anybody have one available . . . or can point me to a source. Thanks.

One one other question: are the stock pipes reasonably quiet? I'm not partial to the deep, loud rumble that Harley riders seem to covet.

Thanks for the reply. I just need to check out for sure than they'll fit an '06. If so, I think you probably have a buyer. I really don't know what a reasonable offer would be . . . haven't checked the new price, plus how much they would depreciate with 3K miles on them. I can't afford a whole bunch since I'm stretching my billfold to pay for the RSTD itself. I'll check out the fitment and hopefully you can get back to me with what would be an acceptable price. Seeking a new-looking exhaust pipes for my '06 RSTD. Hopefully inexpensive. If you've replaced yours and and just want to get rid of the stock mufflers, I'll be glad to pay for the shipping to WA. The RSTD I bought came with aftermarket pipes and I prefer the quieter stock ones. Question: I'm assuming that when the previous owner put on aftermarket pipes he had to have the carbs re-jetted, yes? I also assume that this means if I put stock pipes back on that I have to have the carbs re-jetted back to the stock settings, yes? Thanks for any help you might provide.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I'm thinking I'll stick with the current set up and only fork out the bucks for the Baron lowering kit if I get too frustrated with the seat height. Another factor for me is backing up the bike when needed . . . when one's feet barely reach the ground it doesn't give one much leverage to push backward on this heavy machine. Then again, I don't cotton much to scratching up those pretty mufflers, even on the undersides. Time will tell. Another questions: I've ordered Star handlebar risers in order to get the grips another inch or so closer to me. Has anyone done this and found out that you needed longer cables or hoses? The specs for the risers says "maybe, depending on the position of the handlebars." I'm really hoping I can get away with not having to put on longer cables. Looking forward to the ongoing discussions on the forum . . . and to miles and miles on the RSTD. Kingtut

I'm a new Royal Star Tour Deluxe owner. At 5' 6.5" I have trouble putting both feet flat on the ground when at a standstill. The bike came with a super Corbin seat, which I'm not going to change. So is a lowering kit advisable or not? I know this will reduce the cornering angle, but I've also read different things about how it changes the maneuverability of the bike. Anyone out there who has installed a lowering kit and can tell me if it's a good idea or not? My tendency is to hold off on putting one on and try to get used to the new feel. Any counsel anyone can provide will be appreciated. Glad to be part of the forum.
