I have a friend that has an 05 wide glide that he bought new. He has 160,000 miles on it and still counting. He rides it from Florida to St. Louis every year.

Puc, I think I'm gonna go with Rosie for the name. This is a low model but it has a standard seat on it. You don't sit quite as low which made it more comfortable for me. And no it doesn't rattle your nuts off. The 2017 model with the Milwaukee "8" engine does have rubber mounts which even reduces the vibration more. This is a 2016 so it doesn't have those mounts and it vibrates mostly at idle. I had them put a set of Vance and Hines pipes on. They gave it a really low rumble.

Last October my beter half and I rented a Harly Road Glide Ultra Limited when we were in Vegas. This was the first big Harley I had ever ridden, and I was impressed. Long story short, I have been looking at Harlys ever since. I found a 2016 Electra Glide Ultra Limited Low I couldn't live without. Sorry guys. The Kool-Aid was just too good to pass up. Pictures coming soon.

First of all....Welcome to the site! From the sound of what you are saying, everything is normal. I would make sure the cooling fan works. When I got my first RSTC I rode for several months before I finally had it turn on. I hot wired the fan from the battery just to make sure it worked but I couldn't check the thermostat switch. If you let the bike sit and idle after riding to full operating temp the fan should come on and then turn back off. If it doesn't you'll need figure out if it's the fan or switch.

Depending on how far you want to ride, west of Daytona is the Ocala National Forest. Go north out of Daytona on A1A, west on US 40 to US 19. North on US 19 to US 100. East on US 100 all the way back to the beach. South on A1A back to Daytona. At the corner of A1A and US 100 in Flagler Beach is a great place to stop. It's called Finn's. It's a rooftop crows nest bar and restaurant. Good food and they cater to bikers. I'd love to hook up with you but I'll be in Vegas at that time. Post some pictures when you get back.

Sounds like you have some work ahead of you. I would not suggest being quick on the trigger pulling the motor. Most of what you are dealing with can be accomplished without getting that drastic. Since you already have the clutch out and are ordering parts I would also order an "Upgraded" Shift Cam Segment. Here is the link, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?40713-Clunky-Shifting. Patshark.com or Yamahapartshouse.com (Babbitt's Sports Center) are my two choices when ordering parts. After cleaning or replacing the lollypop bearings on your shift rods and rebuilding/replacing the master/slave cylinders the shifting issue should go away. Pull the carbs and give them a good clean. Check the carb boots while you have them off. Surface cracks are OK, you can use Plastic Dip for a cosmetic repair. If is more than that, replace them. It's not a bad idea to put a few drops of light oil in each cylinder and rotate the engine before you try to crank it up. My 97 had been sitting for several years and had some of the same problems. Rebuild all the calipers and the master cylinders on the brakes. You'll be glad you did. All new brake lines will also give you piece of mind when you "NEED" to stop. Post some pictures and keep us informed of your progress. -
My wife and I went for a ride down A1A and stoped at the beach access near Marineland. It's a packed sand parking lot with a bath house at one end. We went around the bath house and came to a stop. I put my feet down. Lucy, (the bike, not the wife) for some unknown reason decided she needed a nap and started to lay down. Tried but there was no way to stop her. She rolled over on the crash bars and bags nice and easy. Nothing hurt but my pride. Butt in the seat and push with the legs. Even I was impressed that my 140 Lbs could lift her.

I just replaced both my tires. I ride my bike to work most days and have to go through construction areas. I also work at a home improvement store with lots of contractor trucks that seem to drop anything and everything with every drop of the tailgate. I went to go for a ride and found not one but two nails in the rear tire. That tire had less than 4000 miles on it and looked virtually new. I don't like the idea of plugging motorcycle tires so I ordered a new set from Jake Wilson. The front tire had close to 14,000 miles and was getting close to the wear bars. While getting them mounted at a local bike shop I was asked why I didn't just put a tube in it. To be honest, I never thought about it. This is the second rear tire I've put on in the last 6 months so is this a possible solution to replacing the tire? I kept the tire until I can find out if I can use a tube. Have any of you installed one and what size did you use? What are the pro's and con's of using a tube on a tubeless rim? Just looking for a cheaper solution.

Muffler dilema
ToyOdie replied to KSRIDER10's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Looking at the OEM parts breakdown. A 99 RSTC came with a 4 into 4 muffler setup. Some one has changed it to the RSV setup. In the process they must have welded everything. There should be clamps holding the mufflers and heat shields. http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/500441cff8700209bc78e9e3/exhaust -
rubber caps on the carb vacuum
ToyOdie replied to Krewl's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I picked some up at Autozone. They worked fine but they cracked and needed to be replaced in less than a year. After replacing them several times, I ordered the OEM caps when I was ordering some other parts. I haven't had to replace them since. -
Here is the link to the fairing I put on my 97 RSTC. I used your 96 as my inspiration: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?96433-Faring-Installation My bags are LertherLyke semi-hard bags. They came with the bike. I'm very happy with the size and they are lockable. I posted a similar question to yours some time ago. I wanted to know if the rear fender for any older gen 2 RSV will bolt directly to my 97 RSTC. If it does you can install the entire hardbag/trunk setup and convert to the 4 into 2 pipes. I never had any response.
