Well, either one, 1st or 2nd, they both came from the Factory with Lousy Quality Electrical Plugs !!! Especially the one going to the Regulator, ( 1st gen ) or the one At the Regulator ( 2nd Gen ) So, if you got a 2nd gen, its advisable to take a look at the plug on your Rectifyer/Regulator Unit. The pins don't fit tight, the plugs fill up with Oil and road crap, then the pins go high resistance, then they turn into heating elements, then they burn up, then your battery stops charging And about the same story on the 1st Gens !!! But they are eaiser to fix, just cut out the plug and splice. 2nd gen, Hmmmmmm, not so easy to fix.

I'm wondering if either of those two idiots, ever rode a bike with more then 65 HP ???

Thanks much for the Info. Your right, my Corbin, has metal a pan ( vrs plastic stock seat ) and the cover is Very High Quality material in my opinion. Material is attached to bottom side with pop rivits. Very well made, seat. The stock seat would be Much Eaiser to modify, so I'm thinking today, when I come up with the right material, I will modify the stock seat first, and also , they are very cheap as throw aways on E-Bay. Stock pan, is just plastic. Anyway, this Sorbothane, ( ie. visco-elastic- polymer ) stuff sounds pretty interesting. If it good for race car seats, an wheel chair seats, there must be something to it. http://www.sorbothane.com Their website, if you are interested in the product. But the stuff sure is expensive !!!!!!! $$$$$

Just remove the headlight assembly, you can see the Two Main parts as shown in " lonestarmedic " posting above. Follow that rubber hose, make sure its in place and not damaged. You can get new hose at most any auto parts dealer.

Harley touring versus venture
GeorgeS replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I get to ride brother in laws " spare " Harley now and then. ( He has extra cash ) ( I don't ) Its a nice ride, no complaints. My long distance ride is an 89 Venture. My Fun bike is a Busa. ( I'm sort of addicted to power ) I much prefer the V-4 Engine, of the Venture. ( and all the extra power ) If you get a few test rides on both, I would reccomend doing that before you make a decission. You can find left over Ventures, 07's and 08's for about 12 to 15K Verse, 20K plus for most of the Harley models. ( however, lots of Harleys comeing up on the used market now, with the financial messssssss ) -
1st gen plugs won't work, its a 5 pin plug, mounts to the Regulator itself.

idle mixture jets?
GeorgeS replied to hipshot's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Get a can of Liquid Wrench, Apply the stuff every day for 3 or 4 days, give it time to work on cleaning out the threads. Slowly, you should be able to get them out, and clean them. The threads are Very Fine. -
Thanks for the Info, that helps, hope I'm on the right track here.

OK, on your link, brought up their home page, and clicked on, " Material Properties " http://www.sorbothane.com/PDF/sor_matprop.pdf http://www.sorbothane.com/PDF/sor_faq.pdf Very detailed info on the stuff. and they do call it visco elastic polymer !!! Thanks!!!!!!!! so I guess thats it. Info on that link is very interesting. Only question now, is , am I on the right track, and how much does it cost. And how to get some of the stuff. Also, have to find out if it comes with different stiffness levels. Found some info, that the secret to a " Comfi Seat, " is Varying levels of stiffness in the padding material. As to the Bedding, and pillows, yes, that might be it, I have a pillow made from the stuff but its to soft for a seat. So the stuff must come in varying stiffness levels. Search, continues for more info:

Thanks, well I just started researching this today. I figured there must be a secret to these companies that re - do you seat to make it comfi !!. I did find one source, but they want about $60 for a 14in X 14 in , 5/8 thick piece of the stuff !! And at this point I'm not sure if its the real thing. But if its what being used in Race Car cockpit seats, it must be. They said, race drivers that still have un healed injuries use the stuff, so they can keep raceing. Anyway an interesting concept. I'm getting the impression from searching on line that the stuff is supposed to be a big secret. I did find mention thats its only been avialable for 3 or 4 years. ?? Well whatever you can find. If the stuff is as good as info I found today, it should be great for re - doing M/C Seats !! I also found some Pads, for Wheel Chairs. Those folks have the same problems with seat padding as we do on the Bike. ( ie maby even worse ) But not sure it its the right stuff. Anyway, sombody here should know something about it.

OK, I think I have found the answer. Maby. The material seems to be " Visco-elastic-Polymer " I found a web site talking about this stuff being used for Seats in Race Cars. Especially for drivers who are driveing with injuries that have not fully healed. I found some pads, ( ie. 14 by 14 inch, for about $60.00) Apparently the stuff is not Cheap !! Best I can find is thats it the stuff in those Fancy memory foam Pillows, that run almost $200. I have one of those, but that stuff is obviously to soft for a seat. So-- Who is the Expert, on " Visco - Elastic - Polymer " Materials ???? Question now is, where to get the stuff ?? All ears

Is my rear wheel too tight?
GeorgeS replied to LLonearth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You know, I remember looking at the service manual, to check that, and it is not clear how to install it. However, when ever re - intalling a rear wheel, giveing it a spin by hand should immediatly show if there is a drag problem. This item has shown up on this web site more then once before. Anyway, glad U got it fixed. -

Side cover oil leadk
GeorgeS replied to Props's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This IS Correct !! None of the bolts of the Large, Forward, Stator Cover have a special crush washer. Only the Aft Cover. -
Interesting, I was doing web searchs, yesterday, found a couple more companies that do seat mods, and they were indicating the same, as to several layers, of differing density types of material. ?? I guess the key here is identifying the " best " types of foam materials. Apparently there are many types of this stuff avialable. Question is, how do I identify the stuff, as to its different qualities. ??? Another thought, looking for a good deal on e-bay, on a Large Seat, from some older bike, and gutting that out, to get the material ?? Well, I'm going to keep working on the problem, might come up with something. There is always sombody out there that has the answer !!

Side cover oil leadk
GeorgeS replied to Props's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Bottom Center bolt, of the AFT Cover left side. Its actually an Oil Drain. After you Drain the oil, then take that bolt out, and you will get 2 or 3 more oz. of oil out of the Rear Section of the crank case. But there will still be some oil in there. If the Crush washer has never been replaced, good idea to get a new one. -
Question: ??? OK, I have a Corbin Seat for my Busa. I like the Shape of the seat, but its just to Darn Hard !! Only good for about 2 hours of rideing ( even at Busa Speeds !! ) I bought it on E-Bay, for a good price, so I don't have a fortune invested in the thing. I'm looking at the seat, and realize it won't be to hard to remove the Cover ( which is very good material ) and Replace whatever padding material is in there. Anybody out there have the Answer as to What type of Material I should try to use to replace the inner padding material with. Foam rubber, ?? What type ?? Where to get it ?? Is there a someplace on line that sells Seat padding material ?? I'm all Ears, if anybody has any suggestions -----

Cheap at any price, compared to a carb rebuild--- The stuff works, I don't care how much it costs !!!!

Side cover oil leadk
GeorgeS replied to Props's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes:-- But Don't go over. stay under a little, the let the stuff set up at least 24 hours with NO oil. Do final torqueing the next day. Also, what Condor Said, use emory cloth on both surfaces, -
Its a fuel system cleaner and conditioner. Very good stuff for any fuel system. Especially for cleaning out the Carbs. Not all auto parts stores carry the stuff. http://www.seafoamsales.com/ see their website for detailed information.

Is my rear wheel too tight?
GeorgeS replied to LLonearth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Check the position of the "Thick " washer. On right side of axel. It should be positioned between the Swing Arm, and the bar that goes from the axel to the Brake caliper assembly. It is possible to put the washer between the Wheel itself, and the bar. If so, this will put a twist or torque on the Brake caliper, and the Brakes will be dragging. Check this, before ripping ant tearing anything else.
