Well I can buy a small gasoline car, about the same size as a Prius, for around 14K. And with the 8 to 10K Less then the cost of a Prius, I can buy enuf gas to go 100,000 miles, for the Cost of a Prius. As far as I am concerned they do not make economic sence!! When you send one to the junk yard, what is the cost of Disposeing of that big, battery, full of hazordous chemicals ??? Just wondering. And who pays that fee??

Runnin like $#!+
GeorgeS replied to abusive throttle cranker's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Completly drain the tank, ( at the Petcock , attach a hose , to a gas can ) and Each Seperate Carb bowl, has its own drain hose. Start with New Gas, and Sea-Foam, or Techraline, a fairly heavy dose. Might also be time for a new set of plugs, !!! Run it every day for a week, after the above treatment. -
I have always used the Orange Colored Stuff, and distilled water. Change every two years, so far, it always has looked pretty good at the Drain Out time !! So far, no problems.

So are the Victory's ( as to looks, that is ) Don't know anything else about them . This is also why I'm stikin with my RSTD, its not " butt fugly" as you say Ha Ha

About 15 years ago, I installed one inside, which is about 1 size larger then a standard tub. ( A one person size ) Jacuzzi brand, I think it is. Mainly due to my back problems. Installed it myself, total cost at the time was about $1500. Did all installation and plumbing myself. Anyway, as far as I am concerned, its the best money I ever Spent !!! It works, takes minimal amout of Hot Water, and gets the job done, !! And, NO, Leaves, Pine Cones, of Pine needles ever get into it !! Ha Ha Cost a LOT less to operate then a big tub outside !! and a lot less problems!!! Anyway, thats my story and I'm stickin to it !!

Recently lost my black lab, so I'm with you on this my friend. Worst part is when opening the car door in the driveway, he is not there to greet me anymore

If I was buying new, this year, I would be doing some Serious Research on the New Indians !! Before buying anything else. Those New Engines, have some very good Points, A V-Twin that is everything an HD engine never was ! And, a single engine/ tranny all in one unit. All the ride test's I have read concerning them seem to be fantastic. Not sure thought on Seating, Romminess, and road performance. However one guy took a test ride, and seemed very impressed with all aspects of this new bike. However, it is New, as they say. Reliability as yet to be determined. But your going to have a hard time, One Upping/ a Venture or an RSTD !! The Value, of a Low milage, 3 to 6 year old, either Venture, or RSTD, is going to be hard to beat !!! Dated???? So what??? They work !!! And anything that needs to be fixed, or updated, will cost you a LOT!! Less then the Sales Tax, on ANY!!! New Bike !! My 08 RSTD, does everything I need for the open road. If I want to go really FAST, well, I take my Sport Bike. ( But its only comfy for about 2 hours ) But, Darn, its fun to ride that thing !!! ( But haveing said all this, {I know, I talk to much } I would still be seriously researching the new Indian's ) Love the looks of those new engines, !!!

I simply followed the Instruction sheet included in the Barnett Pressure plate package. If you bike is under 75K you probably don't need the new plates. I only purchaced and installed the Barnett Pressure plate. Was at about 15K on the bike when replaced. The OEM clutch was slipping at that milage !! Barnett pressure plate, fixed the problem, works great since. DO NOT, actuate !!!!!!!! the clutch lever after removeing the OEM Pressure plate !!! As to removeing and raplacing the Disc's if you are doing that, I can't comment as did not do that on my 08. However I did replace the complete Barnett setup on my old 89, and again, simply followed the Barnett instructions, was easy.

Anybody know how the quality of the Ural Engines, compared with the old Bemer Boxer Twins. ( the older push rod bemers ) Not the new ones. I remember hearing stories of a million miles, on the lower part of the engines, and about 100K between valve jobs. For the old bemers, I had a 79, and it needed a valve job at about 70K. Just wondering how the Urals, compare to the old bemers, as to Quality, of engine parts, and how they hold up , as to high milage. ??

Like any bike, with time, it becomes subconciouos, Handling that is. I went from 1st gen to 08 RSTD, I love it, !! No way, go back to 1st gen.

On Network TV last nite Information on the NEW E-15 Fuel , starting to be sold across the country --- It OK for NEW " FLEX FUEL VEHICALS " Do Not use it in Any Other Vehical!!! According to AAA, and others, IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR FUEL SYSTEMS!!! Most of the major Auto companies have Announced that IF You Use it, "" IT WILL VOID YOUR VEHICALS WARRENTY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "" The stuff IS Corrosive !!!!!!!!! It is Heavier then normal fuel, and settles to bottom of tank !! So, when you drive you will be running a HEAVY, Dose of the Stuff untill MOTION OF THE VEHICAL, re-mix's the stuff. It is delivered to suppliers, in " STAINLESS STEEL TANKS " Because it is Corrosive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO: a word to the Wise --- Don't buy the stuff, and pass on the information to everybody you know who buys fuel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also: Vote, at the next election, And burn a lot of Regular Gas !!! ----- C U down the road my friends :whistling: "" Hopefuly Anyway " ( And your carbs will still be functioning normally !! ) E-15, E-15 DON'T BUY THE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before spending extra money on this bike. Consider, Its allready Over 90 HP !!! Your bike has plenty of HP !!! More HP, then 90 percent of the Harley's on the road !! Very few of them can outrun a Venture !!!! May I suggest just tuneing it up, a new set of tires, and an AGM dry cell battery. And !! Go rideing !!! Spend your money on lots of Fuel !!!!!

I still remember my mother dropping me off at a Bus Stop, for 15 mile ride to Navy Induction center in downtown Los Angeles, Once every few years, I drive by that bus stop, Its still there. But the building is boarded up. Then on the bus ride from LA to SanDiego, the bus broke down !! Anyway it was a long day. Finally got into a Navy Rack, at about 2 AM the next morning, and at 5 AM they rousted us out !! ( or up ) Ahh the memories The worst part of the experience, was I had to sell my Harley !!! before I went !!!

What engine will fit 1st Gen Venture
GeorgeS replied to JTVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If thats the stock seat, if over 100k it should show a lot of wear. How about the wear on foot pegs ?? Its amazing, how little some bikes get used !! Sombody bought the thing and only rode it 5000 miles ??? -
Help: Lowering Bike with Barons Kit
GeorgeS replied to ksufan05's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just to clear up my previous. When I say, Raising the Rear, improves, Handling. I'm talking about High Speed Cornering performance, on curvy roads!!! I'm not talking about driveing around a parking lot at 5 MPH. Remove ALL the " Dead Weight " from your RSTD, ( passenger seat, passenger floor boards, AIS System, Useless chrome pieces, etc. etc. ) install the narrower front tire, raise the rear 1 inch, and you will be surprised at how this bike will perform on Twisty, Curvy Roads !!! But, I guess it all depends, on how you ride, and the types of roads you ride on. I love to get behind a couple of sport bikes, on a curvy road with the RSTD, and PUSH them !! :cool10: -
Weather report, big rain storm and wind storm comeing in off the Pacific, hitting the Northwest tonight and tomorrow. :whistling:

Do we know his 1/4 mile time ????------------ Just based on watching him go down the track beside the Chevy ???? Not very fast for a bike, on a drag strip. Hmmm I'm pretty sure that Any Hyabusa, off the show room floor, ( No Mods ) Will out run that set up. Or the Super fast Kawasaki, off the showroom floor. I would be interested to know the Total Weight of that Set up??? Looks pretty Heavy to me. A Stock Busa, weighs , just about 500 Lb, with about 185 HP.

Help: Lowering Bike with Barons Kit
GeorgeS replied to ksufan05's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Are you lowering it, to get your feet on the ground ?? I understand that, if you need it. However, if you are Tall, by Raising the rear end 1 inch, you will actually " Improve " handling performance of the bike. ! I am 5' 10" tall, I raised my RSTD bye 1 inch. Handles better, !! Expecially cornering! I have read several comments, that " Lowering the rear " actually Degrades Handleing of these bikes. But, I understand shorter folks might need it. Either way, you need to raise the entire bike on a work stand, and REMOVE TWO bolts. to change the Links !! Its an Easy job. -- The Rear end WILL COLLAPSE, IF YOU DO NOT PUT BIKE ON A WORK STAND !!! A work stand will run about $100.00 Most parts suppliers sell them, Also Sears carries them ( at least they used to ) -
Couple questions comparing the RSTD to the Venture
GeorgeS replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
My brother in law, bought a full boat harley Touring model about 3 years ago. Sister rides on the back. First trip out, after 10 miles she told him, turn around, go home, " I can't stand the HEAT !!! ( She is an experienced back seat Harley passenger ) He spent a lot of money modifying the Exhaust System, to fix the heat problem. Complete different aftermarket system. And added, a higher capacity, OIL Cooling System. Either the RSV or RSTD, will NOT, have excess heat for the passenger. Nothing compared to a Harley !! -

Ignition Switch troubles
GeorgeS replied to djh3's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Pretty sure switches are the same on all the 2nd gens. To be positive, check the Parts Fitch, and compare part numbers. 2nd gen switches, fail. The old 1st gen bikes, ignition switch's do not fail. ( at least I never heard of one failing on a 1st gen ) But who knows ?? The RED, On/Off Switches do Fail on 1st gen bikes. They go high resistance, and cause a lot of problems, before it becomes obvious what is wrong.
