Oil Filter Question
GeorgeS replied to Schlepporello's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Most auto parts store's can order the filters for you. Just cross the Motorcycle. Fram, Wix, and maby other brands. Much cheaper then yamaha. I usually order 3 of them once a year. Always have on hand that way. Fuel filters, also, can be had at auto parts stores. -

fuse box for head light??
GeorgeS replied to bcarden's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Deffinatly use an ATM type fuse block. You can get them at most any auto parts store. I reccomend makeing up a new base, and get TWO 6 fuse, ATM type. That way if you need to mount any extra accessories, you have fuse holders avialable. Feeding the horn, thru a Relay, would be a good example. Also, removeing the Barro Sensor ( press sensor ) and the Fuel pump, from the 15 amp Ignition fuse and feeding those items from seperate new fuse is a good idea. Follow out that circuit, ( Ignition fuse ) and you find that 8 seperate items are feed power off of that one fuse.- 3 replies

Lost the Headlight On My 86'VR!?!?
GeorgeS replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Is the headlight the only thing that don't work ?? Maby you blew the 40 AMP Main fuse. Its connected to the Solinoid-- The gismom with red wires, and the Rubber holder, open the fuse holder. 2 small screws to remove the fuse element. There should be 2 spare fuse elements inside the fuse holder. check the left side of the main block, for 12 Volts. ( light brown wires, each fuse on the left side, with Key in the ON position -

I would suggest you remove all 4 plugs, to take a look at them, might tell you if one or more cylinders is not running right. ( I know, New Plugs, but sometimes, new plugs are bad, also ) These bikes run pretty good up to about 45 to 50 mph, with only 3 cylinders fireing. Then flatten out. You might remove each end of all 4 plug wires, and nip off 1/4 inch of wire, and re-install. You might have high resistance across the Ignition, " On-Off " contacts, and also check the " RUN-STOP " Switch contacts. ( Use electrical contact cleaner on these two switches ) Why?? High resistance thru these switches, will lower the voltage avialable to the tCI, and Ignition Coils. Also, find the Barrow Sensor, Forward, and above the Left Fwd Carb. Remove the Electrical plug, and check for Water, and Crud across the contacts, of the barrow sensor unit. ( Its hooked to the Ignition Circuit, -- its a long story, ---don't ask, just do it ) Have you pulled the Plugs out of the TCI, and cleaned the contacts ???? -
Ok -- " Road kill " I like it when folks Stir the Pot !!!! But, I'm still looking for detailed information on whatever the fix was in addition to the new plateing on the rotors, information as to the actual Anti lock brakeing system itself. Would like to hear from a GM Maintence Department Insider ??? any of those folks on this site ???

Yes, I agree, but they did recalls for rust on brakes in many northern states, and no other brand of vehical had these problems. Reports were it was really bad rust problem. Also many reports. that after 2 or 3 trips to dealer repair shop, brakes still did not work, and folks were told there was nothing wrong !! I find that amazing, in ref: to brakeing systems. But can't find any complaints, for the 09's, but also can't find just what GM did to fix the problems, If they actually did ??? Do we have any members here who work GM Maintenance Department at a GM Dealer ????? I really would like a Chevy truck, but, if bad brakes !! no way ----

Ok gave up on ford ranger, they are going out of production, and decided to small a vehical. Started researching Chev. Colorado, truck, found front end , and tire problems, and few more problems. Gave up on that. Ok, so started shopping for a Silverado!! Great, truck, and really good deals, but then I found out about all the brakeing problems, from about 2001 to 2006 or so, and maby 07 and 08. Rust on rotors, and calipers, and lots of problems with the actuation system. And the kicker, GM was stonewalling untill the Feds stepped in. I know, this is old news, but I guess I missed it. OK, a salesman at dealer e-mailed me that all these problems have been fixed, on the 2009 Model, Silverado's !!! Can I trust him, ??? Does anybody here have knowlege of Brake problems with 2009 to about 2008 GM pickup truck ???? GM was blameing it on Road Salt. Funny their trucks are the only vehicals that were effected by the salt on the roads. Hmmmm ?? I can't find any confirmation, that the 09 models have had the Brakeing systems fixed. Or maby all those postings on " edmonds.com " are bull ??

Due to current discounting, I am considering buying a Ford Ranger XL small pickup truck. As to the Engine, 2.3L I4, and the transmissions installed in those vehicals. ?? Also, considering buying a trailer, for hauling the bike south to Calif. to gain a few more months of good rideing weather each year. OK. I'm open to any and all comments concerning the Ford Ranger Truck, as to engine reliability, etc etc etc. -- Tear it appart for me if you have any information !!!

If those lights are useing H3 bulbs, you could replace the 55W bulbs with 35 Watt bulbs. The H3 type come in seveal different Wattage rateings.

You know, I was thinking about that today. I'm retired now, and plenty of time for doing the rolling !!! I will look into it--- It ain't so much the $5.00 per carton, its the idea of the thing

18MM deep socket, And a 1 inch extension, and get a 3/8 drive ratchet, with a Swivel neck on it. Works great. ( your right, thin wall socket ) I used that again last week, and it still works great. !!!
-
I think you better aim them down a little, If those 55 watters hit a driver in the face behind you------ Not good --- If I was a cop behind you, and you blinded me, I think there might be a discussion takeing place. Have the wife follow you in a car, and see what she thinks !!!!!:scratchchin:

I've had days on the road like that. I have a rule of thumb, if Three, of those type things happen, I pull in at the next motel 6 ( or similiar ) and call it a day. When the little Birdie, says stop, well I stop !!

22nd week, of 2001 most likley mfg. date. that makes it 8 years old. Put that on top of your other comments as to the history of the tire. If I had bought the bike, I would have replaced the tire, no questions asked, simply because of the Age of the Tire, and nothing else. After you remove it, Cut it Cross Section with a Hack saw, and see how thick that carcass is, then compare it to an old D 404 if you have one laying around, or any other brand. You will be surprised. Also, compare the Weight of the E-II to any other old ones you have laying around.

first thing, is check the mfg date code, find out how old is the tire, ( in age, not miles ) E-II have been out of production for about 3 years. You might have a 10 year old tire. Also, any sign of an impact, or damage that could have caused it. Also, you do not know if previous owner was running it, underinflated, or maby over inflated, etc etc. How many miles is on this bike ??
