To just change springs, just take caps off top, pull old ones out, put new ones in. Replace the Oil. Follow instructions with new progressives, as to spacer, and amount of oil. Less oil with progressives. -
If the head twisted off, sounds like a job for and " Easy Out " Tool .

Lots of good deals on cars also, if it anywhere near replacement time !!
-
Just wasting money in these engines, they run just fine without it. Money would be better spent on a Carb Sync tool !

Nasty day, no rideing, not much to do, So, I think I will hit the garage, and start working on my " Motorized Bar Stool " As soon as I get back from the Gym !!!

Become a very " defensive " driver. Learn that in a Car !! Buy a few books on " defensive driveing " Also, off road bike rideing is a very good way to learn the basics. While driveing cars, observe what the " stupid " bike drivers are doing, and be sure you know what NOT to do if rideing a bike !!

I been noticing a lot of really good price's on things latley !! Not sure if that good or bad, in the long run. Lots of dealers going out of business. Stash your cash, might be some really good deals on a new bike in the next few months. I-90 Yamaha, locally here, has new 06 RSTD, for $10,499.00 Watch the G-20 meeting in Europe this week--- ???? Barney wants to regulate all saleries ?? what does that mean.

See page 6-37 of Service Manual. Lower left side of page, See: Item #2 and #3 " Special Washers " I think he Installed them wrong, or left them out. Item 2 is NOT the Same as Item 3. They are Stainless Steel, and they ARE SPECIAL!! I'm not sure, but I think that act as an Oil Flow Valve. They ARE NOT Just Washers !! Talk to Rick Butler, and Squeez, they might have more details. He did somthing wrong, take it back!! Even if your old springs were worn out, It should NOT BOTTOM OUT !!! -
Well I been thinking about RC planes for many years, but , well, to much work, to much expense. But with the new, Electric models, I might just get into it. Also, now the " Open Space " factor has been taken out of it, not to mention the noise factor. I was watching a guy fly a quiet Large Electric model couple weeks ago, at a local RC Open field. Pretty amazing, he was keeping up with the Gas models. !! It was quite impressive. Can anybody figure out how to Link that site ??
-
Sorry, forget I can't get it to work. Do google search, " so you think you can fly a model airplane " it will come up, on site called " LiveLeak " If you like R/C model airplanes, its interesting, otherwise forget it. go change some spark plugs.

Maintenance on a RSV
GeorgeS replied to FL-Venture-Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Engines, and Tranny's are almost bullet proof. Any other maintenance you can mostly do yourself. Easy, and help is here, whatever you need. Somebody here has allready done, and will be glad to help. About all they need is normal maintenance, if you have been working on bikes in the past, you will have no trouble with any Venture. Tires, brakes, Serviceing, about same as any bike. -
Most any brand of Fork Oil, will do just fine. I'm useing 15 wgt fork oil, with Progressive Springs, and NO Air Pressure. Little stiff at first , but seems good now. Been in there about 2 years, time to give it a change.

Starts but won't keep running
GeorgeS replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK, you've had all day to work on it !!! Did you get it running ?????? -
Your New Progressive Springs, are made of Thicker Material, then the OEM Springs. SO: They take up More Cubic volume in the Tubes. So: There is less space left for Oil. Therefore, you must use Less Oil. About 1 1/2 oz. Less. The Oil level should be set to 5 1/2 Inches from the top of tubes, With the Forks Fully Compressed to the UP position. Check the Instruction sheet that came with your new Springs. Its explained there.

This Schematic is Correct !!!!! ------------As, MiCarl posted above, his attachment -
Only has 5 digits, plus the Tenth mile. 99,999.9 is as high as it can go. I'm holding a spare ODO, in my hot little hand.

However, I would take the Main Power supply for the horn a little differently. Install an " IN-Line " 10 or 15 Amp fuse ( whatever the new horn mfg. calls for ) Directly from the Battery, ( or the output side of the Main Fuse ) Run this directly to the New Relay. ( # 16 or #14 wire, Stranded ). Now if you decide to install TWO electric horns, you have plenty of current carrying capacity. ) Also, with this method, you are NOT drawing any extra current Thru the Ignition Switch " ON - OFF " contacts. ( As this is a know problem on these bikes ) Then, take power from the Accessory fuse, to the Horn button, to the Relay Control coil, and then to ground ( #18 wire good for this run ) -
Drain that Carb--- Also, how many years since you have done a Complete Tank Drain ?? Drain at petcock, drain all 4 carbs, Start over with Fresh Fuel, add a little HEET, and Sea-Foam. Even if its still missing, take it out for a run, Even if only running on 3 cylinders !! Left Front!! Did you check that vaccume hose, from the Intake Manifold going up to the Barro Sensor?? Is it in place, not leaking?? Also from the " T " Connector on that line, hose runs up to bottom front of the Air cleaner Box. Is it In place properly ??

You have the wireing correct.!!! --------------------------------------------------------- As to how the Start Button, may have been causeing the horn to blow. ?????? ---- The only thing the Start Button does, is APPLY A GROUND, to the small wire comeing OFF of the Start Solinoid --- At this point, the only thing I would suspect would be the New Relay itself. It Might be defective in some way, ie. the Contacts Stuck in the Closed Position, causeing the Horn to Blow. Suppliers of Aftermarket Electrical devices, that require a Relay, are Known to Include " Low Quality " components. If it happens again, I would get a " Bosh " relay, avialable from most auto parts suppliers, or replace the relay. You mentioned you " taped the wires " ??? Did you " Solder All Connections " before tapeing them ?? Any Electrical repairs on a motorcycle, should be Soldered, and then Insulated with " Heat Shrink " tubeing on splices. Any End stud connectors, used, should be " Crimped " then " soldered " and also a good idea to Apply Heat Shrink tube, for good measure. -
Due to the amount of work involved, I would not risk getting any Junk Parts. Buy OEM Fork seals. Also, the manual calls out replaceing some other parts. Wise to do this also. Manual calls them, " Slide Bush " and " Glide Bush " I guess that japenese for Bushing. Also a few O-rings. Also, take special note of page 6-36, " Special Washers " They are Special !!! And MUST be reinstalled in the correct sequence !!!

Draw up a Schematic, of Exactly, how you wired it. Not how you thought it should be wired, --- Not how sombody told you to do it. But exactly how you did it. Take photo of the schematic, and post it. As I understand your posting, when you turned the ignition to ON, the Horn Blew. ?? Did you rewire Just the New horn , and remove the stock horn. ??? OR, did you rewire, both the New and Old stock horn Via the New Relay ?? He He He Hi Hi Hi, Old retired electricians, live for stuff like this, I know , " Non Electricians " think that is Pervese !!! But, thats how we made a liveing, chaceing down wayward Electrons !!! Don't feel to bad, we Electricians, Understand :stirthepot: -
