Funny Whirrrin' Noise?
GeorgeS replied to Schlepporello's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Pull inner cable out, from the wheel drive unit, Hand greese it with heavy wheel bearing greese. Remove headlight, remove cable houseing from speedo, and shoot some lubrican into the Bushing, where the Inner cable, fits into the speedo houseing. -
Noisy front brake and squeaky rear shock
GeorgeS replied to greyghost's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Remove the brake pads, clean them, and apply some brake pad adhisive. Avialable any auto parts store. Rear Shock, Remove the Bottom Cross bolts for the Suspension Links, 3 of them. They are about 8 inches long. Also some bushings will come out for each bolt. Clean everything, and Lubricate with heavy greese. Another Mod. here is to Install some Zerk Fittings, ( Drill, and tap with threads ) so that in future you can Greese them regulary. Mama, Yama, did not forsee this problem. Greeseing these bolts is NOT called out in the service manual. But be assured, it needs to be done. This might solve both your problems. -
Well the Bike is running so good I decided to work on the old car today. Replacing the upper and lower control Arms on the 93 T-Bird. Frankly would much rather work on a motorcycle !! Much more enjoyable, to say the least

I build my own PC's does that count ?? I can't program them. But I am a Jack of All Trades ??

Have you ever changed the rear brake pads ??? 17K, I think your due !! Mabe all 3 calipers.

OK, we Import 2 gallons of Oil-- To make the equivalent of .85 gallons of Gas !! And Create a whole bunch of polution to make the Stuff. Thats the bottom line -- We could disscuss it till the cows come home, but nothing will change. ( except the cows won't have as much corn to eat )

Rear brake resv. again
GeorgeS replied to EddyG's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Guess I would clean the pucks, and apply oil, force them back in, and force them out again a few times. sooner or later you should be able to get one side out, the split the halves and pull out the other side. -
I rode it once back in 1959 I think it was. But on a work day, never on a weekend. However, 2 weeks ago I did the next best thing, I rode, Big Tjunga Canyon and Little Tjunga Canyon , and Aliso Canyon ( I think it was ) ON a 97 FLH-- now that was a work out !!!! A great Day it was !!!

Simply remove the Anti Dive unit. ( but the fork oil will all run out ) And, check, or replace the TWO O-Rings under the unit. Be sure it not the Fork Seal, if so, you might have oil on the brake pads. And, of course, you will need to drain both Fork tubes, and Replace the Fork Oil, after the leak is fixed ( Darn )

My fix for this, was to Remove the upper dash Air Vents ( and all the ducting ) . Never to be reinstalled. Then I filled in the Vent Space on the panel, and I now use that space for mounting Switches, and gauges. However: ( Some Fabrication, is required ) But I'm sure you are up to the job !!! Maby not the best solution, but it works.

Rear brake resv. again
GeorgeS replied to EddyG's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well compressed air will loosen them, Just blow compressed air into the line hole. One side will move, then put some pieces of wood between the OLD Pads, after one side moves, then blow again. Then pry between the old pads, and blow air in again. Keep working it back and forth, eventually they will all come loose. Also, the bolts come out of the caliber, and it splits into TWO halves. Carefull of the O-Rings, have to be replaced when you reassemble the two halves. -
((( find the 2 wire small plug going to the #2 Ignition coil, clean the connections inside that plug, extra wire there feeds signal to the tach )))

I'm NOT against Reduceing Polution. All I'm saying is the Corn Ethonal is not the way to do it. Now if Calif is requiring you to use the stuff there, YES, there might be less polution in Calif. !!! Thats True !! But--- There is NOW a lot More Polution in Iowa, Minnesota, Wis. Ill, and Indianna where the Corn is Grown, and the Ethenol Plants are located !!! OH, and less food produced, in the U.S. means a lot more has to be trucked up from Mexico, and those trucks are burning !! Guess what ?? produceing polution.

What causes Backfire on acceleration?
GeorgeS replied to Kandaje's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Also, loosen the clamp under each carb. The, remove the Air cleaner box. Now lift the bank of 4 carbs UP , out of the Intake manifolds. Now, check the circumferance of the top of each Intake manifold. One of the Rubber Intake manifolds , where carb mounts might be ripped, broken, or baddly leaking. Last week, are had Popping at idle on my 89 ( a new problem ) and I could just barley detect a sucking sound from the left side. I found the #1 Intake manifold rubber ripped open, Had to replace the manifold. See this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35810 see my photo The correct setting for the Idle mix adjust jets, is 2 1/8 to 2 1/4 turn CCW from full bottom position ( DON'T OVER TORQUE WHEN BOTTOMING THE JETS !!!!! ) But missadjustment of these jet should not cause popping. Also: Check, the TWO Allen Head Bolts, Holding the Intake Manifolds to the Cylinder heads. The INNER bolts on the manifolds might be loose. They are hard to get too. Eaisest way is to Remove the Air Cleaner Box, and go in with 1/4 Extension. use Allen on a 1/4 socket, with a 1/4 Swivil drive Each manifold has an O-Ring seal. But you might have to Remove Manifold, and apply gasket Sealant, IF, Leaking. -
The Tach is powered by the Sig fuse. However it gets it RPM count signal from the TCI from the #2 Ignition coil. However everything else you said was not getting power, comes from the Ign Fuse. TCI, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, Ignition coils, side stand relay, cruz control, are all powered by the Ing fuse. Drying the TCI in oven at 110 deg F. for an hour is highly reccomended. A very common fix, most of us have done this at least once. Also, when you have it removed, be sure to resolder the connections from the plugs going to the circuit board inside the TCI. ( Cold solder joints, and cracked solder joints are very common in the TCI units )

Inspect the Ing fuse Prongs, that hold the fuse in place, The brass prongs are brittle and prone to cracking and breaking OFF. I would suggest you buy and IN-Line Fuse Holder, and wire it in place of that fuse. Or, Repace the entire fuse block with and ATM type fuse block. See the 1st gen Maintenance Library, there is a good article there with photos. Have you pulled out the TCI and dried out the moisture inside of it. ??

Bleed the Clutch system, Just like doing brake bleeding. Replace all the fluid with Valvoline synthectic brake fluid. -

Well its really quite simple. You have to burn Oil, to raise the corn. You have to burn oil to haul the corn to the Ethenol plant. You have to burn oil to process the corn into Ethenol. Now you have to Truck the Stuff to the place where its mixed with gasoline. ( It can't be shipped thru a pipe line ) OK, now its in your car, and give's on average 15 percent less miles per gallon. So now in effect you make 15 percent more polution from the car its burning in PLUS you Burned about 2 gallons of Crude Oil, ( which made polution ) to produce one gallon of ethenol. So, how are we reduceing pollution, by makeing and useing the stuff ??? Its total Insanity !!! It only makes sence, if there is no other source of crude oil !!! At least thats the way I see it.

Boy, I'm out of ideas on this one. Just one more?? Does your Throttle " Pull " cable have at least 1/16 to 1/8 inch of Slack ?? before the linkage on the L Fwd Carb starts to move off idle ?

If you change it your self, just put in a bottle of Ride On-- should be balanced $400 to mount a tire ???? Thats sick !!!

All D-404 buyers, take notice !!!! The E-3's are well worth the extra few bucks they cost !! And, the caseings are 1/2 inch thick !! -
Its also a huge volcano, and your walking over the center of a volcanic crator. Just though I would throw that in, in case you were not aware of that.
